About

The Chicks are one of country music’s most influential and boundary-pushing groups. Formed in Dallas, Texas, in 1989 by sisters Emily Strayer and Martie Maguire, The Chicks (formerly known as the Dixie Chicks) rocketed to pop stardom with the addition of lead vocalist Natalie Maines in 1995. The multi-platinum trio would go on to win 12 Grammy Awards and become the best-selling female band of all time in the U.S., with 33 million albums sold worldwide. By blending honky-tonk with bluegrass and soaring pop vocals, The Chicks appealed to a diverse audience that stretched far beyond their country roots. Signature hits like 1999’s “Cowboy Take Me Away” and 1998’s “Wide Open Spaces,” along with their bluegrass virtuosity, saw The Chicks go from opening for Tim McGraw in 1999 to headlining massive concert tours that have sold over $100 million in tickets. 2020’s Gaslighter (produced by Jack Antonoff) was The Chicks’ first album in 14 years, and the catalyst for a 2023 tour where country-pop superstar Maren Morris will join the trio on a string of dates.

  • Huge disappointment

by mustangsally1 on 2016-10-04SaskTel Centre (Formerly Credit Union Centre) - SaskatoonRating: 1 out of 5

This is the first concert that I've been to where I can honestly say I was disappointed from the first song throughout the entire show. The performance by the Dixie Chicks was very robotic, to the point where no one spoke on stage except for the few words that Natalie said. The pause between songs where the entire stage went black was excruciating, and made me feel like I was at a very unprofessional, unrehearsed concert where the performers were on stage for the first time; but we all know that isn't so. The sound of the band was overpowering the singers, so it was hard to hear their voices. Thankfully, the opening act--Elle King--was awesome, so I didn't feel like my money was entirely wasted!

  • Dixie Chicks Rock!

    by Di12 on 2016-10-04Scotiabank Saddledome - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

I knew they would be good, but they blew me away. They kept the crowd going, they were fantastic. I tell everyone if you haven't seen the Dixie Chicks, you have too!

Love the Chicks but overall I was very disappointed with the sound. Vocals were very hard to make out, it sounded as if each performer was trying to play louder then the other. Heard them last time at the old Rexall in almost the same seating position on the floor and the sound was 100% better, maybe it's just the acoustics in the new arena.

  • Dixie Chicks not Ditzy !

by DeeFan on 2016-10-04Rogers Place - EdmontonRating: 4 out of 5

Great performance, so much talent ! great musicians sang a good variety of their hits and the best tracks from each of their albums

  • Over-amped instruments almost stole the show

by janfrn on 2016-10-04Rogers Place - EdmontonRating: 4 out of 5

I've been a Dixie Chicks fan since their very first single. They could set the Yellow Pages to music and I would buy a ticket. But as with most concerts I've been too lately, the instruments were so over-amped they drowned out the lyrics of every song. The ones the audience wasn't familiar with were unintelligible and that is what keeps me from giving 5 stars. To me, instruments are an accompaniment to the lyrics, providing the melody and adding to the experience. The women of the group are all fine musicians and are justifiably proud of their talents in that regard, but what attracts most people to their music are their voices. I'd really have liked to be able to hear them.

  • Awesome!!!

Great show. Loved that they played all the old songs. Really great. Also liked the talking with the crowd.

  • Dixie chicks / Elle King

by RyanG on 2016-10-04SaskTel Centre (Formerly Credit Union Centre) - SaskatoonRating: 4 out of 5

Show was great the chicks put on great show. Elle king is amazing in concert her CDs don't do her justice. I would definitely go see Elle king again. This was my second time seeing the Dixie chicks.

  • The Dixie Chicks were amazing!!

by Kodasweet on 2016-10-04SaskTel Centre (Formerly Credit Union Centre) - SaskatoonRating: 5 out of 5

Seriously so worth the wait!! Still love all their songs and the tribute to Prince gave me chills and a tear in my eye. The concert was just as amazing as the one I attended in 2003. Elle King was a pretty sweet opener as well!

  • Fire the sound engineer

by Bigalsworth on 2016-10-04SaskTel Centre (Formerly Credit Union Centre) - SaskatoonRating: 3 out of 5

They played all of their great titles, interacted with the crowd, but the sound was horrendous. The sound engineer should be fired. You could hear the underlying talent that the chicks have but instruments way overpowered the singing. I have seen much better shows for way less money. it's disappointing considering their talent. Elle King was an excellent surprise. I would go but get the cheapest seats.

  • Too Much Americana for this Canadian

by DPSask on 2016-10-04SaskTel Centre (Formerly Credit Union Centre) - SaskatoonRating: 1 out of 5

After seeing the Chicks ten years or so ago, I was really looking forward to seeing them again. Canada welcomed the Chicks when most of all the States were against them. So this tour, we are hit with the American Flag waving and the red white and blue tickets being sprayed in our faces. I would think that the Program Director could adapt the graphics and the ticker tapes to a Canadian audience. I surely didn't appreciate it and I walked out with my husband, after spending more than $300 on tickets for floor seats. In fact I am really getting bored with this. John Fogerty did it in his concert as well. I would think the Chicks could've shown a little class and addressed the American content for Canadian audiences. By the way the sound levels were off from the beginning. It was mostly instrumentation that we heard.

  • DCX was amazing

Was a very good show but to loud .Thought it was only us but when leaving the show heard a lot of comments that they thought it was to loud .Made us feel better that we weren't the only people that felt that .Over all enjoyed the background stuff they had.

  • Dixie chicks better unplugged

by Saskchickrocks on 2016-10-04SaskTel Centre (Formerly Credit Union Centre) - SaskatoonRating: 2 out of 5

The sound system was terrible. Way way to loud. You could not hear the voices over the instruments. So loud ppl were holding their ears. Terrible waste of money to not hear the amazing ladies sing so well. Do they not do sound checks. Really should check the levels for earring impairment after the concert. Sadly disappointmented with how loud it was and the sound system. We go to Carrie Underwood this week so will know If it is all shows it sask place

  • Too Loud to Enjoy

by BinW on 2016-10-04SaskTel Centre (Formerly Credit Union Centre) - SaskatoonRating: 2 out of 5

Elle King was very good as the opening act, thoroughly enjoyed and sound was good, but once the Dixie Chicks came out the sound levels were ratcheted up to Assault mode. Vocals could not be understood, except for the few songs where they played semi-acoustic. At times it was so loud it verged on total distortion and the music itself was reduced to noise. Disappointed as I was not expecting death metal sound levels from a bluegrass / country band. That said, they put on a good stage show. If only the sound quality wasn't so terrible. I have had a similar experience at this venue with Bruno Mars and City in Colour, but have also had excellent sound (ie. Fleetwood Mac). Building may be a factor, but can't be the whole problem when the opening act sounded great.

  • Phenomenal

Dixie Chicks were as rocking as always and Elle King was outstanding!

Really good show. The Dixie Chicks were amazing and Elle King was fabulous.

  • Very disappointing, sound quality was embarrasing

by Beckkk on 2016-10-04SaskTel Centre (Formerly Credit Union Centre) - SaskatoonRating: 1 out of 5

We travelled from out of town to attend this show and although I'm not a huge fan I was looking forward to seeing them for the first time. About 5 minutes into their show I turned to my girlfriend to see if she was hearing what I was, which was distorted and just plain way over bearing and loud noise from all instruments and all of there voices. It was so loud and painful after about 20 minutes we both had border line headaches. We decided to go out to the concourse and talk about whether we should stay or not. While we were out on the concourse there was a number of others feeling the same way asking where everyone was sitting to find out if it was certain areas that had the same issues with the sound being way to loud and distorted. Everyone had the same answer. We decided to leave and head home. Even on the way out the door we asked the security about the music/noise coming from the stadium, they also agreed it was very bad and they had seen many people already leaving. As we walked to the car and drove away we also noticed many cars leaving and there was still at least another hour of concert left. Wish we could get our money back and still can't understand how the sound crew didn't notice the crap quality. I've been to many shows at the Sasktel Center and I've never herd such bad quality of sound. I mean how bad does it have to be actually leave a show...

  • The Chicks rock the house

by GarthinYQR on 2016-10-04SaskTel Centre (Formerly Credit Union Centre) - SaskatoonRating: 5 out of 5

True artists don't need much flash and little production. These ladies have voices and talent that don't disappoint.
