Six iconic bands in one place was truly a once in a lifetime event. The highlights were:
1. The first performance of the Eagles since the death of Glenn Frey. They were in their hometown for what may have been the last time with Frey's son, Deacon, and Vince Gill handling the Frey vocals. Bob Seger was also a surprise guest for "Heartache Tonight." I'm not a big Seger fan because he delivers every song like he's going to have a stroke, but I digress! Still, the emotion of the night was special.
2. Fleetwood Mac, despite a couple of minor fumbles, are always worth the price of admission. Hearing the festival close with "Don't Stop" while fireworks burst overhead was magical.
3. I never cease to be impressed by the musicianship of the Doobie Brothers and Earth, Wind and Fire.
4. I've never attended a rock concert that ran so close to schedule! Great!
Downsides?
1. Journey. Have never seen them before and have always been a big Steve Perry fan. Arnel Paneta can't carry his microphone. He's nothing but a screamer and Journey was oppressively loud even in the beautiful ballads that made the group famous. What a shame.
2. Steely Dan seemed disinterested without Walter Becker who was absent due to illness. How do you not do "Riki Don't Lose That Number?"
