    The Cult at Montreal Metropolis

    by Serenity1973 on 2012-09-04Métropolis - Montreal

The show was really good. However, the sound at times was off and the songs seemed to all be pretty much the same. Where weren't sure at one point if they hadn't sung Wild Flower twice? But, The Cult is a great band and we would go back in a heart beat.

    Cult following impressed!

    by redcar49 on 2012-09-03Métropolis - Montreal

One of the great voices of rock`n roll still has it!! I must admit that I was a bit concerned after a listen of the latest cd by the Cult. Has that powerful voice started to fade? Has Ian lost his edge? Well I can safely say after last Saturday`s show in montreal that the answer is NO. He still has the voice and he still has the aura of a rock star. The band was tight and kicked ass all night. A great show and a reminder that rock `n roll never dies.Graet ambiance at the show. She sells sanctuary makes any rock `n roll freak`s desert island disc list. A true classic. This show reminds mey why I can`t listen to the crap on the radio these days. i consider myself luck to have lived the music of the eighties!

The Cult roller through Regina, SK - Canada

by HipsterDoofus on 2012-09-03Credit Union Eventplex - Evraz Place - Regina

The Cult played here. When they played rock 'n' roll it was good. When the lead singer talked or they played something slow it was total puke! Jekyl and Hyde band.

    Great Concert

by mirandor on 2012-09-03The Phoenix Concert Theatre - Toronto

Glad I went to see them. Wished they played at Massey Hall or Casino Rama or some place with seating. Hope they come around again and play other songs from their new album such as Amnesia and Eternal Light., and other classics such as Edie (Ciao Baby), Coming Down (Drug Tongue), Dirty Little Rockstar, and Rise.

    Wild Hearted Fun

by SpiritRocker on 2012-09-03The Phoenix Concert Theatre - Toronto

Touring their latest release Choice of Weapon, The Cult unpacked their hardware at The Phoenix Friday night (Aug 31/2012) determined to solidify their return to wild, and they did just that. The current lineup has been in tact for the past 6 years and is the most solid one they have ever had. Consummate professional rock stars might sound like an oxymoron but it describes Astbury and Duffy to a tee. They kick a$$ and do it with class. From the opening riff of Lil Devil, you are quickly reminded why this band is so easy to love. As much as their music makes you think and feel, it also makes you wanna rock out! The Phoenix may not be the best sounding venue I've seen them in but as Ian put it, "This $hithole's got soul!" Astubury's voice seems to have gotten better with age as he sounded fantastic. He was in a great mood engaging the audience at every turn but always takes a moment or two to let his pet peeves be known - people filming the show with cell phones and security acting tough with people trying to enjoy themselves. When material from Born Into This in past shows was played, the response was lack lustre but that was not the case this time. The 5 new songs that made the setlist were not only very well received but they just "fit" and the show didn't slow for a second. In such an intimate setting, Astbury has a way of sharing his passion for the music with the audience that makes you feel like a part of the family. Duffy opted not to have a mic setup and only walked over to Chris' to harmonize on "Rain." Billy was all business but with several smiles as he unloaded a monster helping of tasty licks which again, included some sparkling solos from the new material. Dimkich is super steady on rhythm, Wyse is ultra impressive on bass and Tempesta is an absolute heavyweight behind the kit! The amazing chemistry and vibe these 5 guys produce solidifies The Cult as a live performance powerhouse not to be missed. This Toronto show made me very happy to see that The Cult is not only back but better than ever. CFFC!

The Cult still rocks after all these years!!!

by pistol36 on 2012-09-02The Phoenix Concert Theatre - Toronto

I cannot lie; I have wanted to see The Cult since I was a teenager, so when I saw they were playing in Toronto, I had to be there! Walking into The Phoenix Concert Hall was like a time warp in a fantastically awesome way; dark, dingy, smelling of stale beer and full of black and leather clad fans. I was in heaven. The band opened with L'il Devil and the crowd was loving it...Ian Astbury and Duff are (pardon the term) Rock Gods--they have still got it. Astbury is a bit of a rock n' roll cliche, but he;s completely authentic and it WORKS. I would definitely recommend that if you like to rock, you go see The Cult as soon as you can.

    THE CULT.....AWESOME!!!!!

by CHEZMO on 2012-09-01Credit Union Eventplex - Evraz Place - Regina

Iv'e seen these guys 3 times; the first in 1989 with Metallica and the second a few years ago. This time they were the best. Great song selection and sounded great. Ian's vocals were superb and Billy's guitar playing was outstanding. All in all a SUPERB performance.

    The Cult

by SaintsAreDown on 2012-08-31Credit Union Eventplex - Evraz Place - Regina

I thought the show and venue were appropriate for the sales, but not appropriate for the greatness of The Cult. The person doing the mixing needed to turn Ian up, couldn't really hear him... Great stage presence, nailed the songs, I would have traded Sanctuary and Fire Woman for other songs in their catalogue, but it's hard to argue with classics....

    Late and lacklustre

by WhipDog77 on 2012-08-30Credit Union Eventplex - Evraz Place - Regina

I don't know who to blame, the band or the venue, but when the main act doesn't hit the stage until close to 10:30 and the doors opened at 7(unless it's the big valley), something's not right. Murder of Crows was fine and did the job of an opening act, which was to prime the audience for the attraction. They did this, but at 9 another band came out, the emcee begged us to cheer for the Cult but then support this new act, and the crowd died. By the time they were done, almost another hour passed before the Cult appeared to play before a tired and disengaged crowd whose interest level fluctuated. The Cult sounded good and played hard, but this was strictly paint by numbers. Whenever they appeared to be losing the crowd they would play a classic from their 80s heyday and bring it back, but so much new material is a dicey proposition for a band relying on nostalgia. Two opening acts is always a bad idea, and had the Cult started at 9, the overall experience would have been much better. They started too late and ended too late and didn't do enough for the crowd to compensate.

    the cult

by Djudge on 2012-08-30Credit Union Eventplex - Evraz Place - Regina

in the city that rhymes with fun, yes, billy duffy and ian astbury COOKED!. However, it started at 8 with 2 opening events, neither of which were much good. the Cult came on at 2025 and had to cut their set short, since the eventplex was closing. should have played a couple less from "Choice of Weapon". However it would be good to have them back. As I've told many friend, The Cult play"the other 3 good cords", and their songs outlast ACDC, giving them longevity.

Ian Astbury forgetting lyrics sweating out of breath arguing with the crowd and bandmates. I've seen them before when on top of themselves no one is better. I know something was wrong musically/ instrumentally great vocally poor enough said.

    The Cult was great!

by chelle1356 on 2012-08-27Edmonton Event Centre - Edmonton

The opening acts for The Cult were fantastic! The Cult rocked... awesome! The only crap part about the show was that there was much too long in between acts, especially between the first and second.

The show and venue was awesome. Three bands opened, one a little loud and distorted but the other two were awesome. Sounded great. Cult kicked all of the old tunes along with new material. Great show overall.

by mikw on 2012-08-24Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

Ian was a bit arrogant! Shocking, I know with the rock-star status... They played for exactly 1hr 20 minutes (including the cheering to force the encore).

The Cult @ The Commodore 2012

by drolltroll on 2012-08-24commodore - vancouver ,bc

Great to be at a venue like the Commodore ballroom, but they were still doing sound-check well after band should have been on stage. Poor sound quality did not do Ian's voice justice...
