Welcome Back. Killed it every which way. Sharon Jones continues to be one of the best live shows going.

    Sharon Jones Should Be Recognized

by sublimenotwithrome on 2011-06-17Malkin Bowl - Vancouver

Outstanding performance by Sharon Jones. The Dap Kings were solid, tight and professional. Even in the pouring rain all in attendance were thoroughly entertained. Divine Brown wishes she could be Sharon Jones.

    Too Wet

by TashT on 2011-05-30Malkin Bowl - Vancouver

Unfortunately we could only stay for about 4 songs - we dressed for the weather - brought umbrellas even - but had to leave the umbrellas outside the park. We were uncomfortable and drenched. The rain was TORRENTIAL right over Malkin Bowl. Rain or shine - I understood this when i purchased the tix but let us use the gear needed to enjoy a rainy outdoor concert. The songs we were there for were awesome... I had been looking forward to this show for months. I bought 4 tix - was a pricey evening for four songs. A disappointed soggy soul sista :(

Great music in all aspects: back singers, talented musicians, and of course Sharon Jones with her amazing voice and moves... she's definitely the Queen of Soul

Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings rocks the boat

by funkyfied on 2011-05-30Malkin Bowl - Vancouver

Sharon Jones is a Godess swinging on the stage with a unique and brilliant radiance. The's the queen of soul music from a different dimension. The audience danced despite the rain. In fact the rain made it even better I would argue :-)

If you have the opportunity to see SJDK live, do it! I've seen this group perform three times now and each time is electric, energetic and so amazingly fun. It was about 10 degrees C and pouring during this performance at Malkin Bowl and yet, everyone there still had a great time dancing and singing along to the best soul performers in America. SJDK will not disappoint!

    Sharon Jones fantastic

by fanxyz on 2011-05-24Louis' Pub - Saskatoon

Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings were fabulous. A high energy show Sharon was fabulous, her backup band was superb. Too bad the acoustics of Louis are so bad. The only way to hear the show was to stand around the dance floor. If Louis wants to be taken seriously as a live music venu they need to make big improvements on their acoustics.

    Hotter than hot!!

by bonton on 2011-05-23The Garrick Centre - Winnipeg

Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings were on fire on Friday, May 20th at the Garrick Center! Her energy is something else and the band was so tight....amazing!! Too bad the venue felt like it was on fire.... what's with the air in that place? Never mind air conditioning air movement would have been nice. I felt sorry for the exquisite trumpet player who had sweat dripping from the end of his tie!!!

    Soul Saviours!

by TheRealDeadHeadInThePeg on 2011-05-22The Garrick Centre - Winnipeg

R&B/Soul/Funk call it what you like. Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings are now the alpha and omega of the genre. Close your eyes and you're in the Apollo, 1964. Open them and you're gobsmacked by the energy of this lady. With a rock solid rhythm section (drummer, percussion, bassist) three horns (tenor sax, bari sax, trumpet) Star and Saundra singing like angels and two, count 'em, two guitars, this is a band (as Duck Dunn said in Blues Brothers) more powerful than goat p*#%. Whatever he meant, I think I just got it. The room was hotter than Hades and we got every stinkin' dime of our money's worth. In fact, we should have tipped the band at the end of the show. Wow. As if that wasn't enough, Miss Jones, accompanied by Mr. Sugarman, Star and Shaundra came to the merch table to sign stuff after the show. Absolutely unnecessary after that performance, but just one more indication that she's the hardest working woman in show business. The opening act was Black Joe Louis. Great band. Sort of schizophrenic...can't decide whether to be soul or punk. However, they do both so well, that, hey...why choose? I'd pay to see them headline and I'll definitely be at the next Sharon Jones show. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

    Sharon Jones

by ebckuw on 2011-05-22The Garrick Centre - Winnipeg

Black Joe Lewis wasn't really the right kind of music to open for Sharon Jones, Sharon's show itself was amazing she is an awesome entertainer. It was more than half people over 40 so rush seating is not the ideal unless there are at least enough seats for everyone. The sound man obviously didn't care to hear the vocals for either band, people were yelling to turn up the vocals but to no avail. It was very hot and the beer lineups were insane. But once again Sharon Jones and The Dap-Kings were very very good!

    An absolutely amazing show

by MommaDsPorch on 2011-05-22The Garrick Centre - Winnipeg

The opening band was killer with rocking sounds harking back to the 50's and playing with innovation and music to make you dance. Sharon Jones blew me away with her high energy. She is a performer through and through, engaging the audience, singing her songs and telling the story at the same time with her expressions and awesome moves. The dap kings kept it together with such tightness all the while keeping us moving and grooving while transfixed. everyone should see SJDK's. You will be left wanting more.

    Dap-dipping with Sharon Jones!

by beelo on 2011-05-16Sound Academy - Toronto

Great show - the venue was intimate and perfect. Black Joe Lewis and Honeybears were incredible and got the crowd really geared up for the main act. Lots of big sound! The Magnetic Soul sister sister with a certain je-ne-sais-quoi was so dynamic and the Dap Kings and Dapettes were on fire, especially the brass section. Sharon Jones has an immense amount of energy for her age. She blew everyone away. I really enjoyed the authentic funk and soul show elements they added (i.e. introducing Ms. Jones, coordinated dance moves amongst band members, etc)
