About

When The Fray first burst onto the scene in the early aughts, the Colorado-bred band introduced the world to a profoundly life-affirming form of alt-rock: timeless but inventive, arena-sized in scope but firmly rooted in raw emotion. Over the coming years, their soul-searching songwriting and high-powered sound led to earning four Grammy Award nominations, scoring a multitude of Billboard top 10 hits, and amassing a passionately devoted worldwide fanbase. Their single "How To Save A Life" spent a staggering 58 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 and became the "unofficial theme song" for Grey's Anatomy. Rolling Stone praised their "stick-in-your-head hooks and eloquent narratives," while the LA Times called their music "melodically rich." The Fray's debut album How To Save A Life (2005) is certified double-platinum in the US and has been declared one of the best-selling digital debuts of all time.

This show was fantastic, all three bands had amazing energy, and the music was great and well performed. I would definiitely see them all again.

  • Fray was awesome and Jack's Mannequin rocked

The venue was drafty (UBC thunderbird stadium) but the show did not dissappoint. The sound was excellent and the opening act was great too.

  • I LOVE JACKS"S MANNEQUIN

Jack's mannequin is my favourite band evvverrrr and they finally came to vancouver!!!! pretty much the best night of my summer--- they put on a fantastic show it was my second time seeing the fray and they were awesome as well :)

  • Fray was Awesome!

by Fergus on 2009-08-06UBC THUNDERBIRD ARENA - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

I thought that this concert was amazing! Not only was the Fray good but so were the two opening bands which is very rare to see. I loved how the Fray had a personality and acted like regular people. They sounded just as good if not better than their record.

  • Could've been better

    by AH1974 on 2009-08-06UBC THUNDERBIRD ARENA - VancouverRating: 1 out of 5

Didn't like it! How to Save a Life was good, and so were 1st 2 and last song, but too much of it is that slow, non-rhythmical sound all too typical of today (except for Calling, BBMak, Jimmy Eat World, Blink 182, Coldplay, Killers, Pink, Avril Lavigne, Sam Roberts, and a few others). Didn't make me jump outta my seat and dance like Green Day, Van Halen, AC/DC, Moody Blues, Sam Roberts, and many others did! AC/DC again this year will be much better than these guys and all others! Fray was waste of money and trip (I live in Coquitlam) Like old stuff best, w above mentioned exceptions! Rock on 70's and 80's!

  • The Fray was Amazing...but

by Lieutenant on 2009-08-06UBC THUNDERBIRD ARENA - VancouverRating: 4 out of 5

The Fray was amazing!!! they were sooo great... i loved the line up they played and i would for sure reccomend it to any of my friends. the 1st opening band vedera was also great i loved the lead singers voice and even though i hadn't listened to any of their music before i am now definitly a fan! the one thing i did not like about this concert was that jack's mannaquin played for waaaay to long, personally im not really a fan on them so i wasnt really into it in the first place but they played for a good 45 min to an hour which in my opinion is way to long. the concert started at 7 and ended at 1050 and it was a little bit of to much waiting around for the fray. vedera started on time and their 30 min set was great, but after waiting for 20 to see jacks man. and than another 25 to see the fray afterwards was a little to long until we saw the main even. I overall looooved the fray though they were amazing. i love them and it was a great concert!!!!!!!

  • The Fray ain't fraying

by chchch on 2009-08-06UBC THUNDERBIRD ARENA - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

I went to this concert mainly for Jack's Mannequin. And as expected, they were AMAZING! They made me dance, or attempt to dance since I was being squished by other vicious fans. Something I didn't expect was The Fray blowing me out of the water! I heard that they played for themselves, not the audience - but I really don't know where that came from: they were the bombbb!

  • Amazing show the Frey

by Snipestar on 2009-08-06UBC THUNDERBIRD ARENA - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

I have to admit I was not looking forward to the show, but they won me over, great start up bands, great songs, and all of the bands really got into the crowd. And they came out and did a great encore to, to finished the show with a bang

  • really good

by Luzel on 2009-08-06UBC THUNDERBIRD ARENA - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

I thought it will be just ok but I really enjoyed the concert. Perhaps the volume was a little high, speciallty with the first two groups but when it came to The Fray it was just perfect.

  • The Fray Shines Bright

    by adubbz88 on 2009-08-06UBC THUNDERBIRD ARENA - VancouverRating: 4 out of 5

The last time I saw The Fray at the Orpheum, they were fantastic. My expectations for their concert at UBC Thunderbird was set pretty high but the group was even better than before. Minus the atmosphere of the Orpheum, The Fray played an incredible show with many great tracks from their new album and a few of their most famous songs, "She Is", "Over My Head" and "How to Save a Life." What I thought was pretty cool were the four cameras that showed the members of the group on these big screens at the front of the stage. The Fray put on a great show and I will definitely go watch another of their concerts when they come back and visit Vancouver.

  • UNBELIEVABLE!!!

  • Fray was awesome

Jack's Mannequin wasn't that great.. I wish I didn't have to wait 2.5 hours to hear the Fray sing.

  • Still Spectacular

by Frayed on 2009-08-06UBC THUNDERBIRD ARENA - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

This was the third time I've seen them live. Once, twice, three times as amazing. Truly, they're just great to see live. Isaac Slade's voice is like chocolate ganache on velvet, so very smooth.

  • Small crowd, muddy sound

Fray was ok, but what was with the piano that Jack's Mannequin was playing? That thing sounded terrible

  • JACKS MANNEQUIN WAS UNREAL.

    by rugby4ever55 on 2009-08-06UBC THUNDERBIRD ARENA - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

This show was amazing. The opener Vedera was a great way to start things off. Personally, Jack's Mannequin stole the show. Their variety of new and old songs were brilliant. I wish they had more stage time. As for the Fray, they were fantastic. Isaac is phenomenal on the piano, as is Andrew of Jack's Mannequin.

  • The Fray rocked

by trebleclef on 2009-08-06UBC THUNDERBIRD ARENA - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

I'm not a huge concert goer, but The Fray really created a lasting memory! They are an amazing band, and so down to earth with the crowd. The only negative comment about the evening was the venue, it felt a bit too big. Overall though, The Fray rocked!

  • Not just a concert, a full on amazing experience

by ilovethefray on 2009-08-06UBC THUNDERBIRD ARENA - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

The fray along with Jack's Mannequin and Vedera blew me away. Vedera had everything going for them (especially the hottie on the drums) although i found it hard to hear the vocals from the lead singer. Still, i very much enjoyed them. Jacks Mannequin was definitely a hit of the show as thats when i got the most pushed and shoved but again you couldnt hear the lead singer or vocals (sitting front row at least) very entertaining still. And then the fray came out.....what else is there to say. Pure Genious! Some of the most talented people ever. They always know how to put on a show and show their true talents. I got chills each and every song that they played and they sound even better than they do on their cd live. A truly uplifting concert that i will never forget. Ive seen them each and every time that they have come to Vancouver and i plan on keeping that tradition. Awesome, just amazing people with an even more amazing concert. :D

  • amazing band live!!

by fitness on 2009-08-06UBC THUNDERBIRD ARENA - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

I saw The Fray 2 years ago and thougt they were great then and was pleased to say that once again I wasnt disappointed one bit! They sing so well live and sounds just like the cd. I also saw a bit more of their personality this time ....and I liked it! There stage show was more professional than 2 years ago and it looked great, the lights etc were brilliant. I wish then s much success for the future as they are a great, talented band.

  • Simple Awesome

All three bands knocked it out of the park. I would go again tonight if possible.

Great concert, I'm so glad I had the opportunity to go. The Fray are even better live, and the opening bands weren't half bad. Come back soon! <3
