Formed by guitarist/composer Omar Rodríguez-López and singer/lyricist Cedric Bixler-Zavala, The Mars Volta rose from the ashes of El Paso punk-rock firebrands At The Drive-In in 2001. Ona mission to "honor our roots and honor our dead", The Mars Volta made music that fused the Latin sounds Rodríguez-López was raised on with the punk and underground noise he and Bixler-Zavala had immersed themselves in for years, and the futuristic visions they were tapping into. The albums that followed were one-of-a-kind masterpieces, their songs of breath-taking complexity also possessing powerful emotional immediacy. After the group fell silent, a legion of devotees (including Kanye West) kept up an insistent drum-beat for their return. Now-a year after 'La Realidad De Los Sueños', aluxurious 18-LP box-set compiling their back catalog, sold out its 5,000 print run in under 24 hours-The Mars Volta are back.

The show was great. The band was amazing! The energy, the talent, the sound, everything was perfect!!! But... the price for reserved seats was pretty steep and I think they oversell the space a bit because there was no room to breathe (literally touching legs and shoulders with people on either sides)! Would have been 5 stars if it was based on the performance only!
The most amazing show in the year it was worth the wait! They're still rocking hard
The Mars Volta put on an AMAZING show - playing new and early stuff. They exceeded my expectations as I expected their sound would be difficult to replicate live given the complexity of their studio recordings. Amazing performance, amazing musicians. The venue is the greatest. I sat at the third level and had a clear view of the band and stage without and problems. Overall 5/5 stars for me.
There is not much else to say about this concert other than it was wonderful. Cedric has mastered his voice, Omar rode the line between chaos and beauty and their percussionist was the order they centered around. I could not have asked for a more lovely time. The venue was beautiful and I'm still walking around with my head in the clouds about it.
I absolutely loved the venue, even though i was in the very back row of balcony seating i had an incredible view and could very clearly see the band. The sound was incredible and the renovations look beautiful! Id loooove to see the mars volta again and especially at massey hall
For a band that can move so unpredictably between the familiar and unfamiliar, seeing them perform a set list of favourite hits like Roulette Dares and The Widow was fantastic. I was thrilled to hear these songs so faithfully done, given the band’s considerable ability to make alterations. The vocals were more on point than on Scab Dates (I actually cannot emphasize this enough). Cedric might have one of the hardest jobs in music. Bravo. Impressive.
Really good Show, amazing band, the sound was awesome, I love the venue
Unreal experience. A real awakening of the soul and renassiance of the mind. Not many bands like this on this planet. True artists with real emotion and expression.
Just an incredible experience. Mars Volta was perfection and Massey Hall has always been my favourite venue. This was my first time experiencing the new GA floor and it felt like we were so close to the band.
