About

The Raconteurs in Concert

Semi-hibernating since 2011, the Raconteurs – Jack White, Brendan Benson, Jack Lawrence, and Patrick Keeler – took their time in 2018 and early 2019 assembling the cadre of killer songs that is HELP US STRANGER, the band's third studio LP and first new music in over a decade. As it's always been, the Raconteurs feature Benson and White as dual frontmen/guitarists/lead singers/songwriters. The world's best rhythm section of Keeler on drums and Lawrence on bass are in symbiotic shine theory lock step, both brought to the top of their game by the musicianship of the other. Early live performances have left no doubt in anyone's mind: this band is savage. Bounding effortlessly between material off their 2006 debut LP BROKEN BOY SOLDIERS, their 2008 GRAMMY® Award-winning sophomore follow-up CONSOLERS OF THE LONELY, and their recently-penned instant classics, even the most cursory look at the tea leaves delivers an undeniable fortune: The Raconteurs' evergreen take on rock and roll is primed to reinvigorate the genre.

Save for a searing cover of Donovan's "Hey Gyp (Dig the Slowness)," White and Benson wrote all the songs on HELP US STRANGER. Recorded at Third Man Studios in Nashville, TN, HELP US STRANGER is proof positive a band with chemistry like The Raconteurs has no rust to shake off. They are as scrappy, current, steadfast, and captivating as they were when they first joined forces, and their joy of creating together is satisfyingly palpable. Without paying heed to trend or hype, and showing up just in the knick of time, this album showcases the band's collectivist spirit fully realized, guitar music fully resuscitated, and faith in brotherly love restored. Longtime friends and musical collaborators helped make HELP US STRANGER, including keyboardist/multi-instrumentalist Dean Fertita (The Dead Weather, Queens of the Stone Age) and Lillie Mae Rische and her sister Scarlett Rische. The album was mixed by Vance Powell and The Raconteurs at Sputnik Sound in Nashville and mastered at Third Man Mastering in Detroit.

The Raconteurs on Tour

The Raconteurs burst onto the scene in 2006, winning worldwide acclaim, Grammy® nominations, and a chart-topping smash single in "Steady, As She Goes," with their now-classic debut album, BROKEN BOY SOLDIERS. That album received a Grammy® nomination for Best Rock Album, while #1 single "Steady, As She Goes" was nominated for Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal. The band returned two short years later with 2008's CONSOLERS OF THE LONELY, an album finished less than three weeks before it was unleashed upon an unsuspecting world, its immediate arrival marking it among the first major albums to receive a surprise release with little or no advance promotion. Like its predecessor, the LP proved a popular and critical phenomenon, making a top 5 debut on the Billboard 200 on its way to earning the Grammy® for Best Engineered Non-Classical Album, as well as a nomination for Best Rock Album.

    Flowing like mud

by Love the band hate the venue on 2019-09-16Meridian Hall (formerly Sony Centre for the Performing Arts) - Toronto

The Raconteurs, of course, put on an awesome show! Only downside is that the venue closed the bar shortly after their set started. Arrival at the venue was hectic! Lineups everywhere for merch and libations. We decided to find our seats and come back for beverages. After the set was on a good roll, I decided to grab a refresher only to discover the bar was now closed. Not cool.

    BRILLIANT

by Bill Bishop on 2019-09-15Meridian Hall (formerly Sony Centre for the Performing Arts) - Toronto

Opening act, Oliva Jean Even thought the bass was too high and drowned out the vocals, musically I thought they were quite good. Well listening to it on the way home it is different, so bubble gum. Got a bit of B52's, Bangles, Lene Lovich, 5678's touch. The Raconteurs First of all what a pleasure it is to go to a concert and not see a sea of phones, the light show is a lot more vibrant. Jack White is one of my favorite artists, and he didn't disappoint last night. They come on like a 100 mph whirlwind, Jack plays his guitars like a 100 mph Whirlwind, he talks and sings like a 100 mph whirlwind, and he sucks the audience in and turns the whole concert hall into this frenzied mass. I am just struggling for words to describe what we saw. The musicianship was incredible, the sound quality was very loud yet very clear. So far seen White Strips, and Jack White solo, but this was just so much better than those shows.

by Patti on 2019-09-15Meridian Hall (formerly Sony Centre for the Performing Arts) - Toronto

Was like watching two different bands on stage at the same time one of which made we want to take a nap or read a newspaper while they were singing.

    Supreme storytellers

by George Alphabet on 2019-09-15Meridian Hall (formerly Sony Centre for the Performing Arts) - Toronto

The Raconteurs put on a great, high-energy show ! It was a good balance of songs from all three albums. The musicianship of the whole band was top-notch. The encore was more of a break because when they returned to the stage they played for an extra 20 minutes instead of just one or two songs, they did about 4 or 5. Highlights for me was an extended moody version of My Blue Veins and the rootsy performance of Carolina Drama. If you want more details about the concert you'll have to go and "Ask the Milkman".

Can't get them out of my head!

by Bluemagilla on 2019-08-29Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

What a great experience! These guys put on a show that I wont forget for a long time cause I can't stop the music in my head. They have a catchy crunchy sound that is definitely my kind of music. Awesome drums, catchy lyrics and the 16 strings were powerful - a crunchy sound that vibrates the soul. I put on the cd a week before the concert and it's still in my car today. Thanks Raconteurs for playing for me last month. I loved it!

    The raconteurs were on fire!

by Rod on 2019-07-24Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

I am 54 years old and been a rock music fan since I was eight years old and have seen countless rock concerts! I would put this one in the top 10 best rock shows I have ever seen! The only way I can really describe it quickly is that Jack White and the raconteurs were on fire from beginning to End!
