The Raconteurs in Concert

Semi-hibernating since 2011, the Raconteurs – Jack White, Brendan Benson, Jack Lawrence, and Patrick Keeler – took their time in 2018 and early 2019 assembling the cadre of killer songs that is HELP US STRANGER, the band's third studio LP and first new music in over a decade. As it's always been, the Raconteurs feature Benson and White as dual frontmen/guitarists/lead singers/songwriters. The world's best rhythm section of Keeler on drums and Lawrence on bass are in symbiotic shine theory lock step, both brought to the top of their game by the musicianship of the other. Early live performances have left no doubt in anyone's mind: this band is savage. Bounding effortlessly between material off their 2006 debut LP BROKEN BOY SOLDIERS, their 2008 GRAMMY® Award-winning sophomore follow-up CONSOLERS OF THE LONELY, and their recently-penned instant classics, even the most cursory look at the tea leaves delivers an undeniable fortune: The Raconteurs' evergreen take on rock and roll is primed to reinvigorate the genre.

Save for a searing cover of Donovan's "Hey Gyp (Dig the Slowness)," White and Benson wrote all the songs on HELP US STRANGER. Recorded at Third Man Studios in Nashville, TN, HELP US STRANGER is proof positive a band with chemistry like The Raconteurs has no rust to shake off. They are as scrappy, current, steadfast, and captivating as they were when they first joined forces, and their joy of creating together is satisfyingly palpable. Without paying heed to trend or hype, and showing up just in the knick of time, this album showcases the band's collectivist spirit fully realized, guitar music fully resuscitated, and faith in brotherly love restored. Longtime friends and musical collaborators helped make HELP US STRANGER, including keyboardist/multi-instrumentalist Dean Fertita (The Dead Weather, Queens of the Stone Age) and Lillie Mae Rische and her sister Scarlett Rische. The album was mixed by Vance Powell and The Raconteurs at Sputnik Sound in Nashville and mastered at Third Man Mastering in Detroit.

The Raconteurs on Tour

The Raconteurs burst onto the scene in 2006, winning worldwide acclaim, Grammy® nominations, and a chart-topping smash single in "Steady, As She Goes," with their now-classic debut album, BROKEN BOY SOLDIERS. That album received a Grammy® nomination for Best Rock Album, while #1 single "Steady, As She Goes" was nominated for Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal. The band returned two short years later with 2008's CONSOLERS OF THE LONELY, an album finished less than three weeks before it was unleashed upon an unsuspecting world, its immediate arrival marking it among the first major albums to receive a surprise release with little or no advance promotion. Like its predecessor, the LP proved a popular and critical phenomenon, making a top 5 debut on the Billboard 200 on its way to earning the Grammy® for Best Engineered Non-Classical Album, as well as a nomination for Best Rock Album.

    Bittersweet

by Boats on 2019-07-24Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

The sweet. The Raconteurs performance was very good. I was satisfied with the playlist, old and new. Working hard to keep great rock music alive. The bitter. Theatre show where everyone stands. Took my 13 year old to his first rock concert, even he could deduce with his limited wisdom that this seems like an idea that should be squashed. It’s bad form. There is a pit option that was available, which is a good idea, but unaffordable for me. Orpheum or QE theatre not good venues for rock shows. I knew this going in, but I love the band.

So that’s what ROCK is supposed to sound like

by Leeann on 2019-07-23Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

Blown away by the incredible talent & playfulness that was collectively displayed by The Raconteurs on Saturday July 20th! Literally rocking in my chair, thinking “this is what it must have felt like to see Led Zeppelin or The Who in the 70’s... Wowza!”

    Epic! Saturday night's review.

    by J. M. on 2019-07-23Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

We decided to get 2nd row from the stage. Why not right, once around right? After all, it's The Raconteurs!!! Strong. Fierce. Loud. Fast. Beautiful. A positive night. This band and their new album, are exactly what I needed this summer. Rock and Roll. Their show was pure perfection and togetherness. They played like a tight knit glove, with passion, zest and probably, bloody finger tips by the time they were done. The crowds participation and the energy before and after the show, was brilliant. The locked up cell phones were the icing the cake. The concert was recored by my mind and the smile it created on my face and in my soul, are that of pure gold. Thank you for coming to town and do come again! - JM - fan of live music and strong lyrics.

    Short but Brilliant

by Pengdio on 2019-07-23Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

Jack White dominates the band and the crowd was excellent in building a great atmosphere. The banning of phones made the show more immediate and intimate. More please. JW is the natural heir to rock and roll as the 21st century rolls along. He is authentic without being cloying, gifted but aloof, dynamic but contained. Less than 100’ for a large theatre show is short but what there was fire.

    Awesome music, horrible experience

by Adam on 2019-07-23Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

I get it, Jack White is very talented. But no phones? I'm done. First of all, I'm on call 24/7. No not a doctor, but that shouldn't matter. Fine I've been to 'no phones' shows before, where they ask you not to use your phone and (most) people comply. But locking my phone in a pouch that has to be unlocked at the end of the night by venue staff? Fuck right off. I bought a mobile phone for security and safety back in the day, and that's still the primary function. If there's an emergency, what good does a phone in a locked bag do? I go to 80+ concerts a year, and I've only been asked not to use my phone *once* before, and that was for Bob freakin' Dylan. Even then, no locked pouch nonsense. You know who doesn't have these restrictions on their shows? EVERYONE ELSE.

It can't get better than this!

by MMiller on 2019-07-23Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

From 6pm, Friday July 19th to 11pm, Saturday July 20th, the Raconteurs visit to YVR felt like a euphoric dream. I attended all three performances (including the "surprise" 6 set appearance at Neptoon Records. The QE Theatre was a great venue for this group - however my perspective comes from RC 4th row, and front/center stage from the pit - to me it was perfect. When I say front, I mean no barriers, with my arms resting on the stage when i wasn't clapping or throwing my arms in the air. The quality of sound, lights, and atmosphere was probably the best I've experienced yet, including the January performance by Interpol which was also incredibly amazing. The QE Staff and Yondr preps were well organized - effortless entry and exit. The front row pit fans on July 20th were respectful and jibed well together; no pushing/shoving that would have to be tolerated elsewhere. NOW for the band. Amazing. You're either a fan or you're not. Always grateful when they come to Vancouver, but even more so with three generous performances. I would have loved to have heard "Carolina Drama", but maybe the next time they come back :)

    Great Energy

by Mike on 2019-07-22Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

Loved the show. I thought the band drove the energy from the first moment until the last. The sound was great, the crowd was thrilled. Of course I wanted to hear more of my old faves, but was not disappointed. Thanks to the Raconteurs.

    Rock at its finest

by Bravo Inertia on 2019-07-22Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

The Queen Elizabeth Theatre was a great venue for the Raconteurs. The acoustics were spot on and the band rocked it. The set list was heavy on new material, but the crowd didn’t seem to mind. Great show!

    Raconteurs July 19, 2019 Vancouver

by Gussy on 2019-07-22Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

I've seen Raconteurs 2 other times in Vancouver and loved it! This Friday show was different. They seemed very rushed. Did they even do a sound check? Their timing was off on at least two occasions. New arrangements were alright, a bit sloppy Opening band wasn't harmonizing very well. Makes me think they were running late. Jack, chill out bro, even talented musicians need to check their ego once in a while.

Excellent show - poor seating plan

by RockTraderz on 2019-07-22Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

I’m 60 years old and my job requires that I stand all day so by 8:pm on a Friday night I’m ready to sit down and relax. I bought a ticket in row 4 RC (front row) for $350 and was under the impression that my view If the stage would be unobstructed. Well I was wrong, when I got to my seat there was about 30 feet to the stage and people were all starting to gather in front of the stage. These were the GA ticket holders I found out, and by the time the Raconteurs came on these ticket holders were practically right in front of me. The only way to see anything was to stand up and remain standing for the rest of the show. If I had known that was going to happen then I would have purchased a GA ticket and stood directly in front of the stage. Live and learn!! I’m still very happy and fortunate to have gone to the show, Raconteurs put on a Great show!

    The Raconteurs

by Tickled on 2019-07-22Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

1st time at the QE for a music concert, Ticket takers were amazingly patient, I LOVED having ALL phones locked down it really added to the show not having lights and beeps going off everywhere. The beverage staff were quick the people seating were right on it, no one had to wait. The opening act was so talented and of course the Raconteurs were flawless, the lighting for the show on stage was really done well.Totally will go to the QE again for another concert
