THE TEMPER TRAP IN CONCERT:

Indie darlings the Temper Trap quickly shot to fame in 2008 with their anthemic track "Sweet Disposition", and they haven't slowed down since. The Australian group plays bright, guitar-driven rock with a fervor and energy that always get the crowd pumped up during their live shows. Whether they're performing the track that launched their career or tearing through songs from their 2012 self-titled debut, the Temper Trap always has ticket buyers singing and clapping along on their must-see tours.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Hailing from Down Under, the Temper Trap formed in 2005 when the band members met while working at a Melbourne clothing store. The five-piece played cut their teeth playing local shows, and they quickly attracted attention from blogs and magazines with their electrifying performances. They released their first self-titled EP in 2006 but truly took off in 2008 with their platinum-selling debut Conditions, which featured the Top 20 hit "Sweet Disposition". They continued their mainstream success with their self-titled sophomore LP, which topped the charts in Australia and earned Best Rock Album at the 2012 ARIA Awards. Since then they've opened for major players like Coldplay and the Rolling Stones, appeared at world-renowned festivals like Coachella and Reading and Leeds, and sold out popular venues across the globe. With a strong collection of hits in their repertoire, the Temper Trap is a celebrated act that keeps fans coming out in droves to their exciting shows.

better on the radio.... awful sound live

by jennkor on 2010-10-07The Phoenix Concert Theatre - Toronto

could not make out what the signer was signing, and the flashing lights were obnoxious to look at. It was like the stage was set for a venue ten times the size. I would not recommend seeing temper trap live; save the money and listen to the radio/album

    Awesome!

by Mass on 2010-10-07THE CAPITAL MUSIC HALL - Ottawa

The Temper Trap were awesome. A great instrumental band as well. Last song before the encore, the lights go really bright and the lead singer pours water on his cymbal and drum and starts playing. The visual effects were extraordinary!

Temper Trap was pretty good but didn't play well live. The biggest problem is the sound quality in the Pheonix - really need to change what they're doing because it ruined the band's sound.

    Temper Trap are THEE BEST

by ConcertFiend613 on 2010-10-06THE CAPITAL MUSIC HALL - Ottawa

Second time I've these guys in concert, and once again they were absolutely amazing and i rocked out hard core. Their performance exudes talent, sexiness, and authenticity. I really love Dougy and his hyperness/energy on stage. Having the chance again to get autographs and chat with him at the end of the show is the cherry and icing on top of a crazy delicious cake lol. I would see them a thousand more times, they are top 5 favorite artist for me no doubt. Excellent show!!! Well worth more than what I paid for the ticket.

    Temper Trap review October 3

by went on 2010-10-05THE CAPITAL MUSIC HALL - Ottawa

A great band really played their heart out and really put on a good show- despite a somewhat cold audience. Not playing their hit song and playing such a short set left me a little disappointed.

The Temper Trap are not to be missed, great show!

by dobyblue on 2010-07-08The Mod Club - Toronto, ON

Opening act Kissaway Trail from Denmark were slightly reminiscent of seeing Death Cab for Cutie particularly from a drumming standpoint. The crowd got into their tunes and it would have been hard not to, infectious drum grooves along with a character on stage who would remind anyone in their 30’s and up of “Bez” from Happy Mondays, only playing tambourine and dancing about the entire show. I will be happy to check out their studio stuff and their new album comes out in April. A Neil Young cover mid-set was much appreciated by the Toronto crowd. The Temper Trap opened up at just after 10pm with a feisty jam and laid right into a blistering version of "Rest" from their debut album "Conditions" available on CD and on vinyl, the latter receiving better mastering. All the tracks from COnditions were played throughout the night with the bassist dedicating Down River to his grandparents in attendance. The band had a good rapport with the Toronto crowd and the inevitable screams when the fantastic guitar riff from Sweet Disposition were clearly apprecitated by the band. Frontman Dougie was spot on all night with vocals, not quite as delicate in spots as on the studio album but the rawness of the live event still showcased an amazingly talented voice. Bassist Jonathon Aherne was a treat to watch all night, really getting into the entire performance. While his bass looks awkward at first being strung so high, it clearly works for him and his dancing and thrashing about fed the crowd just as much as singer Dougie Mandagi’s seduction of all things microphone did, despite a few instances of ear-splitting feedback. Only one negative about the show - The Temper Trap only played for 60 minutes. Their songs aren’t long which could easily change in the live setting, some songs could definitely have been jammed out longer like Rest, Fader and Resurrection. In addition these guys have 4 songs from a 2006 EP which are all excellent and none of them were played. Can’t complain given that it’s only a $15 ticket, but for sure a 90 minute set at the moment is easily within these guys reach and no-one would be looking for the exit door, they are that good. The band ended with a new track Rabbit Hole with Dougie on acoustic guitar, showing that the band isn’t just content to sit on their laurels playing the new album which is great, but those older tunes would definitely work well with the Conditions material also. All in all it was easily a 5-star show. One or two outburst of feedback aside the sound was really good at The Mod Club and the event was well organized. Often singers can get a bit drowned out, but Dougie’s voice was clear all night. The Mod Club do need to turn their fridges up a bit though, the beer was nowhere near close to being cold. Don’t miss The Temper Trap when they come to your area.

    Good, but...

by PaulJW on 2010-06-03Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

Overall, I thought the show was really good, but I have a couple of complaints. First being the sound: it was way too loud!! I'm no prude, but the sound was so loud that the individual sounds from all of the instruments clashed and drowned eachother out. The lead singer has such an amazing voice, and it seemed like he had to strain to sing above the instruments. Secondly was that the bass player really annoyed me- he was a complete cliche, and made a fool of himself. Other than that, not bad.

    Sweet Disposition, sweeter show!

by moffatsvshanson on 2010-06-02Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

Opening band was alright, not great. Elizabeth, they were called. Mediocre songwriting and singing, but decent instrumentals and driving beat kept it energetic. Temper Trap were awesome! Great songs and chemistry and real talent combined with great technique made for a great show. I hope they come out with another great album so I can see them again! Yay for an Asian frontman... something different and really great to see. His voice is amazing (but just a bit nasally) and when he poured water on his drum and started playing, the crowd went wild! A really cool effect visually. Overall, an amazing show.

Best Concert I've ever been to

by convert on 2010-06-02Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

There are no words to truly describe Temper Trap's performance. They are so much better live and I was incredibly suprised at their jaw-dropping talent. Every single song felt like the band was pleasuring the audience sexually, it was almost like a spiritual trip. I am unsure as to how I can go on my day-to-day life after having experienced such beauty.

    Unreal concert in VanCity

    by nodoubtfan101 on 2010-06-02Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

Temper Trap were on fire last night. Pitch, beats, cords, everything was rockin last night. Played most songs from their first North American release, so the crowd knew every song and got into it quick. A blast. Highlight was Drum Song and Love Lost. Thanks for a great night!
