THE WAR ON DRUGS IN CONCERT:

Combining the soaring synth lines of new wave and the twangy guitar tones of heartland rock, the War on Drugs have arrived at a sound that is at once familiar and all their own. The Philadelphia foursome formed nearly a decade ago, with cofounder Kurt Vile departing before they broke through with 2014's Lost in the Dream. That album by the new lineup stormed its way onto charts around the world with barnburners like "Red Eyes" and "An Ocean Between the Waves". Beloved by fans for their exceptional live shows, the War on Drugs will deliver another round of high-octane performances on their latest tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Formed in 2005 by Adam Granduciel and Kurt Vile, the War on Drugs made their debut in 2008 with Wagonwheel Blues, a compelling slice of Americana-influenced rock that fared well with critics. Shortly after the band's first European tour Vile left to pursue his solo career, resulting in a new lineup for 2011 sophomore album Slave Ambient. The album was a critical and commercial hit, landing at No. 4 on Billboard's Heatseekers Albums chart, but its success paled in comparison to the band's third effort. That album, 2014's Lost in the Dream, launched them to international acclaim, firmly establishing them as one of the year's biggest buzz bands and paving the way for continued touring.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"The band was exceptional. Extremely engaging and entertaining lead singer. All very talented musicians. There was not a bad song in the set."

"Loved them! Great sound, great vocals. Def worth checking out!"

"War on Drugs were magnificent!"

    Once in a lifetime

    by G. J. on 2022-11-13

I had the pleasure of seeing them twice in 2022. Once at Echo Beach in Toronto, and once at Red Rocks in Denver. Previously I’d only come close to being moved to tears by music, but these beautiful people managed it on both occasions. I cannot wait to see them again - soon!

Thank you TWOD, it was amazing seeing you live after so many years listening to your songs. The songs were even better live, it shows how committed you all are. It’s beautiful to feel how they build up every song until a climax of energy.

    Great band, concert, venue

by Swedeman on 2022-08-31RBC Echo Beach - Toronto

This was the first time seeing The War on Drugs and my wife and I were not disappointed. It was also the first time at RBC Echo Beach. The smaller venue, open air, and summer atmosphere made this a great experience. The band and the acoustics were great.

Beautiful music on a beautiful night

by ApostolicPants on 2022-08-31RBC Echo Beach - Toronto

Echo Beach along the lake can be a precarious location to get the right sound mix. Sunday’s TWOD show was perfect in all regards. It was a beautiful summer evening. The sound was phenomenal. The band was spot on. They are so tight and the music was so perfect for the venue and the evening. Can’t give a high enough rating. This show has been living in my head full time for days.

    Sadness

by Eric on 2022-08-31RBC Echo Beach - Toronto

Due to the insane traffic and lack of parking I was unable to get into the event at all. Missed the show entirely. Poor logistics.

WOD never disappoints at Live Concert

by Mike T on 2022-08-31RBC Echo Beach - Toronto

Incredible concert. From the opening song to the end and the lighting was spectacular too. My only 'knock' on the concert was the song selection order. Would prefer a more upbeat song to finish the concert/encore.

    Way too loud

by abis on 2022-08-31RBC Echo Beach - Toronto

The band sounded great, the lights were cool, but the volume was way too loud. I never go to shows without hearing protection, but my friend did not have any so we were forced to hang back far from our seats. No slight on the band, but it did take away from enjoying the show.

    Amazing!

by Rittedar on 2018-09-09Paramount Theatre - Seattle

Despite the fact that it was an all ages show so you couldn't bring alcohol into the seating/standing area they played for 2hrs straight. Well worth driving to Seattle from Vancouver and seeing them. So many good venues to see concerts in Seattle too and this place was really a great place to see them.
