I loved the movies I saw at TIFF, great venues, film choice and atmosphere!
This year was the worst to select movie. Not giving people the possibility to filter by country and language was disappointing. The entire TIFF website experience is shameful for an international event. Especially when they had 2 years to get ready.
the brilliant and mega important Ever Deadly opening night was ruined by the Ever D***head in my row checking his phone, lighting up the cinema experience in a sh*t, sh*t way. F**k all of you in cinemas with cellphones. and no, i couldnt politely ask him to stop. im not nice and got so mad i think i fd the energy in the whole room.
Great story how refugees have to fight for their lives and endure great fears and stress to survive. The movie is the real life story of Yusra and Sarah Mardini, two young sisters from war-torn Syria to the 2016 Rio Olympics. I have to admit, that I am a little (actually a lot) taken in by the movie swimming scenes, since my daughter Christine Jaeggi appears in some of the swimming scenes. Christine was very enthusiastic to be chosen and could not stop talking about all the people she met who worked on this movie. As proud parents, me and my wife attended the opening of TIFF at the Princess of Wales Theatre in Toronto. I want to congratulate Sally El-Hosaini for producing this epic movie and the two real-life sisters Manal and Nathalie Issa who played Yusra and Sarah.
So the viewing of The Handmaids Tale and the Q&A that followed was awesome!! What I was disappointed with was Festival street set up and the red carpet at Roy Thompson Hall. Festival street was not as interactive as I would have liked. As a VISA Infinite card holder there were no perks, just maybe a waiting line advantage. An even with Red carpet events like at the Roy Thompson Hall it was so covered with high mesh fencing that it did not allow the general public to see the stars. Only if you had the privilege of sitting in the RBC Red Carpet booth could you get a view put again you were so high up there that getting a selfie with a star was not a possibility this year. In my years of attending TIFF I have never seen RTH so covered up by these barriers and the long row of tents. TIFF is for the movie fans. The limit amount of interaction with red carpet and festival street was so disappointing considering it was the first time back after 2 years of COVID.
fantastic using the ticketmaster app, fast and easy, and I could transfer my tickets to my friends. Along side with the RBC Avion Infinite Lounge experience, made for an incredible evening. The TIFF experience is THE best way to see movies!
The movie was amazing, great actors, the direction is perfect, the story full of emotions and the interview at the end really interesting. It was a really nice experience.
My first rodeo at TIFF. I absolutely enjoyed everything about it! The movies , the outstanding work and coordination of the team and an special HUGE THANKS to all volunteers! I will definitely be back next year!!
The movie was wonderful, absolutely amazing! The seats were incredibly uncomfortable as were the three or four flights of stairs going up to the theatre for people with asthma! The line outside was long and hot and ridiculous that you can’t enter the theatre lobby when you already have tickets and your a member. Tiff could be better!
I was purchasing tickets for a number of films. The film selection was very quick and very easy, with efficient check out, seat selection times.... however, I was able to ONLY purchase one film at a time. It would have been easier to add to the basket and check out all at once but nevertheless my experience was great!
This was my first time attending TIFF and it was beyond my expectations. The event was so organized, there were tons of volunteers in sight so if you weren't sure where you were going, they were there to help. We thoroughly enjoyed the movie we went to (Knuckle City) and just the overall atmosphere at the Scotiabank Theatre (where our movie was playing), and downtown Toronto was very exciting!
My family and I had an awesome time when we went to see Western Stars. The event was so well organized and everyone was very polite and courteous. We’ll definitely go again next time
The pricing of tickets according to demand is beneath TIFF’s responsibility to its audience. I wanted to see Pain and Glory, but it was sold out when I got to choose for my package. And yet later I found tickets available for $60.00! Has TIFF abandoned the people and instead has evolved into a corporate event that deals in profit? The anecdotes about volunteers in the pre-film section this year were excruciatingly maudlin and contrived. The website was excellent. I especially enjoyed the choosing of favourites from the programme, the creation of lists of the favourites, and the scheduling of them. I had embarked on my manual schedule but was thrilled to have it done for me! But the maneuverability within the site between sections/pages needs to be more seamless. Also there needs to be feedback given when there is a client action. I often didn’t know whether my action had actually happened, or whether it had failed. It was frustrating to leave a page and then have to renter from the start. Many of us using the site use Apple devices and are used to amazing intuitive flexibility. I enjoyed my films. And hope TIFF succeeds in swinging the pendulum back to the people. I also enjoyed seeing my films in a central, walkable area. Of course I am concerned that the imminent demise of Scotiabank Theatres will change all that.
Watched several movies not in the famous lists, mostly great , loved 'I am woman' 'Hearts & Bones , and ' Mosul". . One exception ' Lina from Lima', it wasted excellent actors on a distasteful, stereotyping , and even offensive movie about a migrant Peruvian woman, so easy to see the director ( Chilean) does not have a clue of what is to be living in poverty, racism, colonization history and about Peruvian music, really terrible ! She wasn't there for the Q&A , too bad! as I had several questions and comments, please ask organizers to be careful when selecting Latin American movies made by non nationals
At first I was bummed that there were no concessions but then the movie started and I didn't care about anything else b/c I was so locked in but now in hindsight I think the experience would be more complete with a bag of popcorn and drink.
Every year I look forward to the 10 days of Tiff and I'm never disappointed with the choice of movies but sometimes disappointed by not being able to get some tickets for movies I really wanted to see. I really appreciate that we can have assigned seating in most theatres. As for the experience of booking the tickets; I didn't like that you can only book for one movie at a time online, and have go back in line for each purchase. Overall, I love Tiff.
Setting aside the persistent problems with the TIFF website and system for ordering & using tickets, TIFF is a fantastic showcase of some of the best films from around the world, many of them small budget foreign films you’re unlikely to see anywhere else.
TIFF has been a really great experience for me the past 3 years. I love Toronto and all the energy that the festival brings to the city! The only thing I would suggest is a bit more organization during red carpets to popular films. It gets very chaotic! But I know that’s hard to control & is also part of the buzz. So anyway, TIFF is magical & I would tell anyone to go & catch a flick! :)))
It was absolute awesome and very well organised. The only pity was that I could only choose 10 movies out of 300. It was a tough choice, but I was very happy with my selections. I'll try to expand it a bit next year.
