  • The "best seats"are not in the front row

by Chris on 2024-09-17TIFF Lightbox Cinema 3 - TorontoRating: 1 out of 5

The algorithm to pick seats left me in the first three rows for 15 films. I bought tiff Member Bundles and had no idea that we had pre-assigned seats. I was shocked to see how many times I sat in seat 2 or 3 in the front row. I've been seeing between 30 and 40 films at tiff since 2015. The awful seats ruined this year's festival for me.

  • TIFF! The best time of the year!

An incredible festival! I loved the reserved seating. It made it stress free. So looking forward to next fall!

I have never been to TIFF but went this year. It was great and very exciting. All the people mulling around , I felt like I was in New York city at a Theatre premier.

We saw the Deb .... loved it:) Loved the energy!!!

  • Overall a great experience!

by Kater on 2024-09-17Scotiabank Theatre Cinema 5 - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

Well, done on the choice of Films this year! Edna O’Brien outperformed all expectations, while A Sister’s tale moved everyone in my group. We are still talking about both of these films even a week later. My highlight was a Sunday morning screening of The Deb, followed by An unexpected appearance by Rebel Wilson. Wilson has really set a higher bar for musical films. Every event was efficiently run thanks to the volunteers – we all know TIFF couldn’t happen without you. My one criticism this year was that despite being a member, I experienced a number of technical glitches that didn’t allow me to buy a package.

To see a film at TIFF is a special event.Cannot rave about the film chosen, but the crowd was enthusiastic.

This year screening of the Village Keeper had me beaming with that extra joy when I saw our hard work finally exhibit on screen.

It was good fun and great ambiance. Cherished the experience. For the first time, I experienced an International Film Festival and it was once in a lifetime experience for me.

  • Amazing!

by Andre Anthony on 2024-09-17Visa Screening Room at Princess of Wales Theatre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

The organization of the films, red carpets, and festival street was seamless, enhancing the overall experience for attendees and filmmakers alike. As always, TIFF has proven to be a vital platform for discovering new talent and celebrating the art of cinema, reaffirming its position as one of the premier film festivals in the world.

  • Should all viewings of The Mountain include the Haka? YES!

by Kezza on 2024-09-16Scotiabank Theatre Cinema 11 - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Great quality films - wide range of options, spectacular scenery (thank-you William Tell & The Mountain), unforgettable characters (thank-you Grace Lisa Vandenberg [19 letters] Addition). A special shout-out to Rachel House & Terence Daniel - Bravo 👏

  • Availability of tickets

by Linnie on 2024-09-16Roy Thomson Hall - TorontoRating: 3 out of 5

I’m a tiff member and when I went to purchase tickets there was very few seats available . What tickets we did get were not the best seats and when we were at the different shows there was lots of vacant seats. Why!

  • Great festival!

    by mesonic98 on 2024-09-16Scotiabank Theatre Cinema 14 - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

I love TIFF because it provides an opportunity to see films that do not receive wide release. This year had a terrific selection. My one complaint is that some of the seats in the cinemas (particularly at the Scotiabank theatre) are really bad and provide a very compromised view. I think if people are paying $40 to see a film they should get a decent viewing. Also the increasing amount of people who use their phones during screenings is distracting and annoying. One would think that at a film festival there would be more respect.

Loved the 2 very different movies I saw with my best friend who came from Kitchener to join me. It is a very privilege to have access in Toronto to small budget documentaries as well as a character study of middle age movie. Very enjoyable!

  • TIFF 2024

by JF on 2024-09-16Scotiabank Theatre Cinema 1 - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

Everything was well-organized and easy to navigate. Thank you to volunteers who make this so successful. I also appreciated having assigned seats this year. My only issue was the email received the day prior to each movie outlining the "late policy". I was not made aware of the policy that arriving 30 minutes early was considered "on time", that arriving 15 minutes early was considered "late", and that my tickets could be resold to rush customers if I was not there 15 minutes before the show began. I purchase tickets based on my schedule, with the understanding that I will be there in time for the show - not half an hour before. My purchased tickets should be mine for that show.

  • Fantastic movies, mediocre organization by TIFF

by SK on 2024-09-16Roy Thomson Hall - TorontoRating: 2 out of 5

As always, I enjoyed the thrill of seeing new movies from all over the world. TIFF is my favourite time of year in Toronto! However, as someone that has been attending TIFF for 25 years, I found the organization by TIFF to be truly disappointing. As a member purchasing tickets, I signed in at the appointed time and date using the link TIFF provided -only to discover it didn't work at 10 am. TIFF didn't send out a new link until almost an hour later (at which point most tickets for movies I wanted were gone - I had somehow found another way on Ticketmaster to get to the TIFF screenings). The benefits of being a member of any sort seem to be limited this year - I had to try 3 more times to get a few other movies (which is understandable and not unusual normally, but I strongly believe if the original link sent by TIFF to members actually worked at 10 am, I'd have had more options to select from the first time). Then, when arriving at the TIFF Lightbox for a movie, I asked 3 different TIFF officials/volunteers about where the extended line-up was way down the stairs for a very popular movie that day - none of them knew where we were supposed to line up and given the fear of being late to the movie despite having assigned seats, that was an unnecessarily stressful moment. While I understand that most are just volunteers for TIFF, there needs to be better education for them on being helpful and answering customers' question as we are paying A LOT of money to see TIFF movies. Another issue: I found that the movie synopses on the TIFF website didn't give a good reflection of what the movies themselves were about. I noticed some errors in descriptions of the stories in the movies, as well as purely unhelpful "summaries"that didn't tell the public very much about the substance of the movie. Because of that, I'm convinced some smaller excellent films didn't get the same full interest that they otherwise could have (one example - Superboys of Malegaon - excellent film, really enjoyable, but with a TIFF synopsis that did not do it justice). Last, doing this over Ticketmaster just means the usual Tickemaster isuses - also the resale values of tickets on Ticketmaster going above $200 is absolutely ridiculous and not what TIFF used to stand for - one of the few film festivals accessible to the general public, which is what makes TIFF so unique and amazing. I'll keep going to TIFF because I love the movies and the thrill of seeing ones that may not come to mainstream theatre. But TIFF really needs to improve its organization of the festival to make it less stressful for the public, who are eager to get tickets and attend the festival.

  • TIFF is a truly amazing experience.

Attending the premier of a movie is a very special experience, and having the chance to ask questions of the cast and crew and to hear their perspectives on the making of the film is fascinating. The whole atmosphere around the festival is so exciting and inspiring.
