Toronto Maple Leafs History

The Toronto Maple Leafs have 13 Stanley Cup Championships and seven division championships, with more than 60 former players, coaches and executives in the Hockey Hall of Fame. The Maple Leafs were one of the NHL's founding teams in 1917. They originally were known as the Arenas and then the St. Patricks before taking their current name in 1927 after Conn Smythe bought the franchise.

The team won two Stanley Cup Championships in the NHL's first five years and returned to the finals in 1932 behind the "Kid Line" of eventual Hall of Famers Charlie Conacher, Joe Primeau, and Busher Jackson. In 1942, they defeated the Detroit Red Wings in seven games to win the first of five Stanley Cup Championships under coach Hap Day. The addition the following year of center Ted Kennedy helped the Leafs maintain their dominance, and resulted in another title in 1951.

The Leafs won three Stanley Cup Championships in a row starting in 1962, and another in the 1966-1967 season, thanks to a roster brimming with players who would end up in the Hall of Fame: George Armstrong, Johnny Bower, Red Kelly, Dave Keon, Tim Horton, Allan Stanley, Bob Pulford, and Frank Mahovlich.

The team returned to the conference finals in 1992-1993 and 1993-1994, then again in 1998-1999—the latter trip powered by eventual franchise scoring leader Mats Sundin. The Maple Leafs have appeared in the Playoffs every year consecutively since 2017. The Toronto Maple Leafs have made the Playoffs a total of 74 times to date.

The Leafs are fun to watch as usual, and even though they didn't win, I had a great time. On the same night I bought a Kulemin jersey, he scored the tying goal! Looking forward to the Panthers game on Nov. 8! :)

  • Leafs vs Flames

    by McLeaf82 on 2011-10-19Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 3 out of 5

There is generally a vibrant atmosphere any time you attend an event at the Air Canada Centre, and this Leaf game was no different. Despite getting off to a slow and sloppy start, the Leafs managed to pull it together through the second period and ultimately tie the game. The third period was the most exciting as after taking the lead 3-2, the Leafs took a penalty in the last 2 minutes resulting in a 2 man advantage after Calgary pulled their goaltender. Several nail biting moments and a game saving stop by Reimer in the dying seconds sealed Toronto's victory. With respects to the ushers at this event, I found that the one posted by our section was rude and incompetent. During the pregame a family of four came to sit down in some of the seats in front of me (one of them purchased by my partner) which seemingly looked as if they were sold twice. They and my partner were told to go to customer service to "sort it out". As I waited for her to return, the same situation happened with 2 other ticket holders and were told the same thing. Roughly 20 minutes later, a trip around the ACC and much frustration, it turned out that the usher hadn't read the tickets properly, and the family was actually supposed to sit in the row in front of where they were initially told. After the game, when asked where the stairs were, this same usher looked puzzled and proceeded to nonchalantly point in the general direction of said stairs. We were shocked and put off by his attitude and lack of competence

The game was pretty awesome and the seats were where one wants to see any game. Clear view of all shots. Clear viewing of the movement of the players and the puck at all times.

Beers were not even close to being cold in the tall boy mgd's! Noticed some sort of dirt on the top of the can too. If you pay 10 plus dollars a beer, make sure the beer is colder and cans are free. Thanks

  • Leafs Win First Pre-Season Match!

by Sadlier on 2011-09-28Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

The price of the tickets, as is with any Leafs game, is the most expensive you can get in the league. However, I think the fan base overlooks that and will pay anything to get to see the Leafs play live. As any Leaf game I go to, I enjoyed myself. Being the first game of the Pre-Season, I wasn't expecting a playoff like game, or an end of season playoff push. It's always good to see the Leafs beat the Senators. Also, love seeing the younger kids play in the big leagues to show the fans what the future holds for the club. Final Score: Leafs - 4 Senators - 2

  • Standing Room..for that price..Really!

by Auzigrl on 2011-09-27Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 1 out of 5

I ordered the tickets as a Birthday gift for my husband and two die hard hockey fans (ages 9 and 11) for whom this would be their FIRST NHL game. After putting in best available, it returned 4 tickets in what I understood was a very high level in the stadium. I was thankful to get them and considered it was Pre-Season game. What I DID NOT get notified about when purchasing was that it was STANDING ROOM ONLY and not actual seats. The excitement had been building in the family and we headed off to the game with all the anticipation a NHL game brings only to be heavily disappointed by standing at the very top of the stadium explaining to two boys why we don't have seats like the rest of people and feeling ripped off by the price of the tickets. Unbelievable. Had I have realized this I would NEVER have purchased and tried for another date/time. We managed to have fun anyway...but it was initially very stressful to manage expectations

  • Good seats, bad neighbours

by ElvinaGB on 2011-09-26Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

The seats were great with a great view of the ice. The only downside was the small child behind my daughter who kept kicking her seat and the pipe over her head dripping condensation on her (drip, drip, drip)

  • Maple Leafs

by Piimaa on 2011-09-25Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 3 out of 5

It was only a pre-season game. The Leafs make the same mistakes which causes them to lose in the end. Buffalo played a better game.

Not another season of this. I thought we were turning a corner this year.
