Toronto Maple Leafs History

The Toronto Maple Leafs have 13 Stanley Cup Championships and seven division championships, with more than 60 former players, coaches and executives in the Hockey Hall of Fame. The Maple Leafs were one of the NHL's founding teams in 1917. They originally were known as the Arenas and then the St. Patricks before taking their current name in 1927 after Conn Smythe bought the franchise.

The team won two Stanley Cup Championships in the NHL's first five years and returned to the finals in 1932 behind the "Kid Line" of eventual Hall of Famers Charlie Conacher, Joe Primeau, and Busher Jackson. In 1942, they defeated the Detroit Red Wings in seven games to win the first of five Stanley Cup Championships under coach Hap Day. The addition the following year of center Ted Kennedy helped the Leafs maintain their dominance, and resulted in another title in 1951.

The Leafs won three Stanley Cup Championships in a row starting in 1962, and another in the 1966-1967 season, thanks to a roster brimming with players who would end up in the Hall of Fame: George Armstrong, Johnny Bower, Red Kelly, Dave Keon, Tim Horton, Allan Stanley, Bob Pulford, and Frank Mahovlich.

The team returned to the conference finals in 1992-1993 and 1993-1994, then again in 1998-1999—the latter trip powered by eventual franchise scoring leader Mats Sundin. The Maple Leafs have appeared in the Playoffs every year consecutively since 2017. The Toronto Maple Leafs have made the Playoffs a total of 74 times to date.

  • The Leafs need to improve NOW!

by TorontoLovesCarrie on 2011-01-01Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 1 out of 5

Thanks to the Blackhawks' championship win, the Leafs are now the team that has gone on the longest blank between championships. People like me want to really support the team but if the amount of money we pour into MLSE's greedy hands isn't even producing a team that can make the playoffs, what good is it? It is quite obviously that MLSE only cares about making money for themselves and the Teachers' Pension Fund, and the city blindly sellouts each and every game on the false hope of going somewhere. Raptors not doing well, TFC did not do well, at least the Jays were a surprise.

  • Seats

When i ordered my tickets, i picked seats online and was aware it was not the very last row. But when i got to the game, i was at the very top, standing. i wouldn't have boughten these tickets if i knew that and was very dissatisfied. The seat selection tool was not right at all.

The highlight of the game was watching a guy throw waffles on the ice. The team is a very big disappointment. For the most dedicated, greate$t supporting fans in the league we simply have earned better. We don't really care who owns the team, we just want a real shot at the cup. It really seems like there is a joke being played out there, on the fans.

  • slap happy fun

  • Leafs VS Montreal

by Notasmosher on 2010-12-13Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 3 out of 5

The game was amazing from up above. We only paid around $50.00 for standing room top in nose bleed section. We were so hight up it was surreal to watch. Other's in front of us paid $125 or more, however they were able to drink and sit...I would recommend this to anyone that can't pay the horendus amount to watch a game. It would be nice even if they just had plain benches to sit on. Way to to Leafs! You beat Montreal.

This was a tough one to watch from a Leafs point of view. The team was not on their game. I enjoyed watching the Flyers play. Fun to see the Team Canada players.

  • Disappointed

by sandmanmac on 2010-12-11Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 1 out of 5

My 3rd of 4 games purchased for the season for the supposedly "rejuvenated", "re-tooled" maple leafs. I have been a fan for virtually my entire 42 years, and may have not been as disappointed as I am these days -We simply have no hope for any kind of success in the next decade as far as I can see. The building is boring, the quality of hockey -sub-par, yet the tickets remain the highest price in the league

  • Edmonton beating the leafs 5-0 at the ACC

by foxytody on 2010-12-07Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

This game was great for the young up start Oiler's squad and awesome to know that it was Taylor Hall's first multi gola gam ein his young career!

  • The Leafs are not worth it!

by tnargs on 2010-12-06Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 1 out of 5

Driving 10 hours round trip, the hotel cost, plus food and a game ticket in the nose bleeds. The hockey game was the worst part of this experience. It will be a long time before I invest that amount of money and effort and time into attending one of their games live again.

  • Great game; great seats!

by bquigley on 2010-12-06Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Thanks MLSE for offering up some seats....they are so hard to get!

  • Leafs win

    by bill52 on 2010-12-06Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

Leafs played a better game and seemed to finally get to Thomas(Bruin goalie) to force overtime shoot out.Good effort for the Win

  • Leafs are not worth the ticket price to watch live

by vlaz on 2010-12-06Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 1 out of 5

To put it simply, the leafs are a bad hockey team, and are now worth the price of admission to watch the game live when you can watch it on TV. I recommend driving to Detroit and watching the red wings instead of you enjoy good hockey.

  • i love the leafs

by sassinak on 2010-12-04Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

i love the leafs and the atmosphere during a game but this wasn't the best hockey of all time. still fun though

  • Great game. Tampa Bay Lightning kicked ass

by sunbunny on 2010-12-02Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Great game for the Lightning who are a stronger team and I knew it wasn't over when they were down. They have a habit of coming back. GO LIGHTNING!!!

  • Good game, poor seats

    by Famemonster114 on 2010-12-02Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 3 out of 5

It was a good game with fairly good goals and hard hits! Wasn't aware there were even standing seats so I got stuck with those which was not fun in the slightest way.

  • by Anonymous on 2010-12-02Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

Excellent view of the overall ice surface with no obstructions from seats in front.

  • Winning is nice.

    by MJR97 on 2010-12-02Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 3 out of 5

Good time. Poor result. More goals. Less expensive alcohol and merchandise.
