Toronto Maple Leafs History

The Toronto Maple Leafs have 13 Stanley Cup Championships and seven division championships, with more than 60 former players, coaches and executives in the Hockey Hall of Fame. The Maple Leafs were one of the NHL's founding teams in 1917. They originally were known as the Arenas and then the St. Patricks before taking their current name in 1927 after Conn Smythe bought the franchise.

The team won two Stanley Cup Championships in the NHL's first five years and returned to the finals in 1932 behind the "Kid Line" of eventual Hall of Famers Charlie Conacher, Joe Primeau, and Busher Jackson. In 1942, they defeated the Detroit Red Wings in seven games to win the first of five Stanley Cup Championships under coach Hap Day. The addition the following year of center Ted Kennedy helped the Leafs maintain their dominance, and resulted in another title in 1951.

The Leafs won three Stanley Cup Championships in a row starting in 1962, and another in the 1966-1967 season, thanks to a roster brimming with players who would end up in the Hall of Fame: George Armstrong, Johnny Bower, Red Kelly, Dave Keon, Tim Horton, Allan Stanley, Bob Pulford, and Frank Mahovlich.

The team returned to the conference finals in 1992-1993 and 1993-1994, then again in 1998-1999—the latter trip powered by eventual franchise scoring leader Mats Sundin. The Maple Leafs have appeared in the Playoffs every year consecutively since 2017. The Toronto Maple Leafs have made the Playoffs a total of 74 times to date.

  • leafs vs dallas

by Terps on 2010-11-25Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

The Leafs won so that always makes for a great event.

  • Leafs win dull contest

by Leafer on 2010-11-24Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 3 out of 5

The game was okay but the atmosphere at the Air Canada Centre has to change! Too many lower bowl fans there doing business and not paying attention to the action. Third period not bad but that's when the beer started kicking in. It's a catch 22. If the Leafs play well or excite the fans they cheer more, but if they stink, the fans won't try to spur their team on to do better. It's really disappointing.

  • Excellent Seats

by Nutman on 2010-11-24Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Best Seats, Great Service at the ACC. Really enjoyed it.

  • Leafs put up a good fight

by ShizNick on 2010-11-23Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

The Nov 13th Toronto maple leaf game against the Vancouver Canucks was a hard fought battle in a very entertaining game, The Leafs came out guns blazing and got 2 quick goals against one of the best goalies in professional hockey. The fans were excited and happy to see their favorite team play so well so early in the game. But the Canucks crawled their way back and tied the game up by midway through the second period. In the end Vancouver staged a solid comeback in what was a heart felt emotional game. Not all leaf games are spectacular, but even in this loss fans were not left in despair.

  • NJ fans got booo

    by PK81 on 2010-11-22Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

It was a great game! There was one guy who wears his NJ gears in front of me and the ppl behind my back with their full leafs gear were making fun of him. Their conversation was unforgettable.

  • Great game!

by Onlooker on 2010-11-21Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Most entertaining Leafs game in years! Loved the comeback in the second and the Monster's performance in the third to save the game!

  • Leafs VS Devils

    by greatscot67 on 2010-11-20Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

We had great seats, 9 rows back from the ice. Everyone was so nice from the Security at the entrance to the lady that showed us to our seats and the waitress that served us our beverages. There was lots going on between periods that kept everyone in the spirit of the game and the Leafs won!! A perfect end to a perfect evening.

  • Good game, bad finish

    by ParlayKing71 on 2010-11-15Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

It was a good back and forth game with a terrible. finish. It looked like Giguere was channeling Allan Bester. The seats were good, and the crowd was really in it for both sides. Til next time.

  • Vancouver kicked the leafs butt

by xXClassifiedXx on 2010-11-15Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Awesome game . Canucks won 5-3.Even though my seats were at the very top and standing . you could still se everything. Deffinatly want to go to this event again next year. Canucks FTW !!!

  • Good seats, would have beeb better if they won.

by Heptron on 2010-11-13Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

In the ACC there isn't really a bad seat in the house unless you are up against the outstretched boxed seats and the end of the arena where the flags hang. We were the last row of actual seats but it wasn't hard to see the action. The only odd thing was that being at the back meant that you were not in the 'centre' of the cheering, so the atmosphere is a bit muted. Also you can't get any swag that far back because nobody can throw that far from ice level, but that's really trivial.

  • Leafs vs Sabres

by MikeM on 2010-11-08Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Was a great game. I really enjoyed the experience. They came up short on the goals but it's just a game and I go for the entertainment so who really cares.

  • Hockey Hall of Fame game with Leafs fun as always

    by tome9 on 2010-11-08Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

I enjoyed the Hockey Hall of Fame game on Saturday, November 6, 2010. Each year I look forward to this game since it is an opportunity to see current and new Hockey Hall of Fame members along with a Toronto Maple Leafs game. Unfortunately, the game was slow at times. Even a passionate leafs fan like me notices that the Leafs are having trouble scoring goals.

  • Amazing Tickets day of

by mapleleafgame on 2010-11-04Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

I got last minute tickets to the Leafs vs Senators game on the day of the event. My seats were incredible and I would do it again!

  • by Anonymous on 2010-11-04Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 1 out of 5

$70.00 a ticket to be in the last possible row of seats is absolutely ridiculous. We had to lean forward to see the whole ice surface.

  • Leafs vs Rangers

by MikeM on 2010-11-01Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Was a great game to watch. Lots of passing plays, skill and exciting chances. The Leafs came up short on the score board. But it was fun regardless. After all its just a game.

  • Great game but my lower bowl seat was OBSTRUCTED

by HaltonCanuk on 2010-10-28Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 2 out of 5

Paid for lower bowl reds and seat was obstructed by cement clock that extended out club seat. I could not see the far goal or corner without getting friendly with my neighbour. They should discount these seats. Great game leafs played well just NOt these seats.

  • Maybe the Boys are Back in TOWN!!!

    by WopDa53 on 2010-10-28Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

I love hockey, so, naturally as a toronto native, im a leafer... I wish it was easier to get tickets for games, our seats blocked out one of the nets...the net which all the goals were scored in... but I brought my old-man to his first game at the ACC, and we both had a good time! GO BUDS GO!!!!

  • by drbeave on 2010-10-25Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5
