Toronto Maple Leafs History

The Toronto Maple Leafs have 13 Stanley Cup Championships and seven division championships, with more than 60 former players, coaches and executives in the Hockey Hall of Fame. The Maple Leafs were one of the NHL's founding teams in 1917. They originally were known as the Arenas and then the St. Patricks before taking their current name in 1927 after Conn Smythe bought the franchise.

The team won two Stanley Cup Championships in the NHL's first five years and returned to the finals in 1932 behind the "Kid Line" of eventual Hall of Famers Charlie Conacher, Joe Primeau, and Busher Jackson. In 1942, they defeated the Detroit Red Wings in seven games to win the first of five Stanley Cup Championships under coach Hap Day. The addition the following year of center Ted Kennedy helped the Leafs maintain their dominance, and resulted in another title in 1951.

The Leafs won three Stanley Cup Championships in a row starting in 1962, and another in the 1966-1967 season, thanks to a roster brimming with players who would end up in the Hall of Fame: George Armstrong, Johnny Bower, Red Kelly, Dave Keon, Tim Horton, Allan Stanley, Bob Pulford, and Frank Mahovlich.

The team returned to the conference finals in 1992-1993 and 1993-1994, then again in 1998-1999—the latter trip powered by eventual franchise scoring leader Mats Sundin. The Maple Leafs have appeared in the Playoffs every year consecutively since 2017. The Toronto Maple Leafs have made the Playoffs a total of 74 times to date.

Appreciated that the volume was turned down during stoppage of play and in between periods - in the past it was SO LOUD that you couldn't talk to the person beside you because music or promotional messages were blasting at you - thanks....much appreciated.

Good seats but too bad the prices are so high to go to a hockey game in Toronto. Not a lot of regular people get to go....a lot of suits on blackberry's the entire game.

  • Toronto Maple Leafs are great.

  • Leafs vs Rangers

by mapleleafgame on 2010-10-23Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 2 out of 5

Got two gold tickets to the Leafs vs Rangers for October 21, 2010. It was great that I was able to get tickets like this at cost price through ticket master as apposed to paying scalpers prices. The Leafs came out totally flat and lost the game. Thant was an expensive $420.00 night to watch one goal go in. The seats were great and I would probably do it again (maybe not golds). Its good to see that you can actually go see a Leaf game once in a while The two star rating is totally given to the Leafs lack of play, not the seats themselves.

  • I'd check out the Leafs any day any time

    by Russian98 on 2010-10-21Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

The Air Canada Centre is a terrific place to see an event, and there is nothing better then the Toronto Maple Leafs. The put forth strong entertainment all night, and the fans are empathic for the love of their team. Cheering didn't stop from the drop of the puck, and the fans are quite knowledgable of the sport. I recommend it for anyone.

  • Good TML Vs NYI game

by Biggshow on 2010-10-20Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Good game with a few bad calls but was still a good vibe throughout the ACC.

  • leafs were awsome sat nt -oct9

by purpleman on 2010-10-11Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Had a great time at the leaf game sat night. They came out on fire and controlled the sens right from srart to finish!...the top line gelled and looking forward to see what they can do for the full season. We don't need versteeg to fight though he showed guts and did a pretty good job against a tougher opponent(m.fisher).our off season additions and past marlie brent looked quite promising. Have to say i loved sitting up in the purples, great atmosphere, real fans and even though they are high seats don't turn them down and they are quite affordable. I had 1 extra ticket and ended giving it to a kid on holidays from england who wanted to see a hockey game.I was glad to help him out. I am definitely looking forward to the rest of the season and hoping they can grab a play-off spot this year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The Leafs are terrible!!

by Anonymous on 2010-10-11Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 1 out of 5

I would have given this experience a 5 star rating if the Leafs lost. Otherwise it was just enjoyable being at the game overall.

  • Maple Leafs win!

by LordSidious on 2010-10-11Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

This was my 2nd Leafs game ever and the first time I've seen them win. They were in total control of the game and it was a great result in the neverending Battle of Ontario. 5-1, Leafs are 2-0 to start the season!

  • Advice on Obstructed View

by ajcgn on 2010-10-11Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

I was in section 317 row 11X. Seats 13, 12 and 11 could not even see the near side goal. From seat 14 leftward, the game would at least be tolerable. Wouldn't have been so bad if the Leafs didn't score 4 out of 5 of their goals on the invisible side :)

  • by guido9999 on 2010-10-11Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

The day was excellent. We went to Wayne Gretsky's for dinner and met his father Walter. The food was good and the sevice. The staff memeber at the will call window when we picked up our tickets was polite and professional and the game was great.

  • Leafs DOMINATE Senators!!

by Kevikoostar on 2010-10-11Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Could not have scripted a more satisfying opening Hockey Night in Canada event. Leafs dominated from the opening face-off in evvery facet of the game. Could this be a sign of greater things to come for the buds this season? It's hard to tell because it is so early, but based on the first two games - this is definietely a better looking team than last year. Go Leafs Go!

  • by italianrock on 2010-10-09Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

horrible seats one net is visible the other one is covered by a wall! why would they sell these tickets its a mystery! and i have another 4 games siting here! im going to watch the game from the standing area! a much better view! awesome game tho! Go leafs go

  • Unforgettable Night of Hockey

by djphild on 2010-10-09Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

From the whole arena singing the National Anthem to the very final buzzer signaling the end of the game, I was enthralled in the game and the emotions of watching my Toronto Maple Leafs play a team that has a long history of being a divisional rival, Montreal. Of course the Leafs won and that made the night more memorable and all the more sweeter. I have been to a few Leafs games before but never for a season home opener and the feeling I had lived up to the hype and flair that I had only heard about. I was surprised to see so many Montreal fans in the ACC but that made it all the more interesting with verbals jabs between the opposing fans. All in all a great night.

  • disappointed with seat

    by hockeydad1000 on 2010-10-09Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 1 out of 5

I know I bought a ticket to the leafs game that said "obstructed view" but they really should clarify that to say "you will not be able to see 1/3 of the rink". 'I feel for the price paid, there was no justification for such a terrible seat. I guess you are paying for the seat, not the view. The standing room area at least has a full view of the rink.

  • Leafs Vs Habs

by MikeM on 2010-10-09Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Doesn’t get any better then the opener with the Leafs versus the Habs. There was a 50/50 split of Toronto and Montreal fans. And of course there was plenty of good natured ribbing. The atmosphere, ceremony, and game was outstanding. Best of all was the decision to have the crowd sing the national anthem with no music, or lead singer. It was a memorable moment of true Canadian pride. I loved it. Best game of the year for sure!

  • Great game, the wrong team won:(

by Toronto on 2010-10-09Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Just kidding - I am a Habs fan, but the atmosphere was amazing!!
