Toronto Maple Leafs History

The Toronto Maple Leafs have 13 Stanley Cup Championships and seven division championships, with more than 60 former players, coaches and executives in the Hockey Hall of Fame. The Maple Leafs were one of the NHL's founding teams in 1917. They originally were known as the Arenas and then the St. Patricks before taking their current name in 1927 after Conn Smythe bought the franchise.

The team won two Stanley Cup Championships in the NHL's first five years and returned to the finals in 1932 behind the "Kid Line" of eventual Hall of Famers Charlie Conacher, Joe Primeau, and Busher Jackson. In 1942, they defeated the Detroit Red Wings in seven games to win the first of five Stanley Cup Championships under coach Hap Day. The addition the following year of center Ted Kennedy helped the Leafs maintain their dominance, and resulted in another title in 1951.

The Leafs won three Stanley Cup Championships in a row starting in 1962, and another in the 1966-1967 season, thanks to a roster brimming with players who would end up in the Hall of Fame: George Armstrong, Johnny Bower, Red Kelly, Dave Keon, Tim Horton, Allan Stanley, Bob Pulford, and Frank Mahovlich.

The team returned to the conference finals in 1992-1993 and 1993-1994, then again in 1998-1999—the latter trip powered by eventual franchise scoring leader Mats Sundin. The Maple Leafs have appeared in the Playoffs every year consecutively since 2017. The Toronto Maple Leafs have made the Playoffs a total of 74 times to date.

  • Thank you Coke Zero - Maple Leafs - First Game

by Roars on 2010-10-07Air Canada Centre on Sep. 21/2010 - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Even though, some fans complained about how cheap was the treats for the fans during that event, my friend and myself don't see it this way, because just the Tickets was worth $468 dollars for the two of us, at least if we had to pay for them. but we didn't because we won them through, with only one ballot, the pizza-pizza Coke zero contest, which I think I won because what I wrote explaining why I should win the tickets. So thanks to that I was able to bring my friend Frank and my self to the game and enjoy the tailgate party, with gallons of Coke zero to drink, tattoo stickers with beauties all over the place putting them on fans, and the airbrushed coke zero tattoos both free, pictures with famous veterans, funny and hairy blue and white hats, entries to win maple leafs fan kits plus sponsors as the Toronto star giving great offers, and to top it all The Trews were performing for everybody. Don't forget all the tickets and prizes they gave away at the tailgate party, during and after the game, was awesome, we had lots of fun, despite of the maples loosing, we certainly enjoyed the everything including the game, Thanks again!!!

  • Leafs-Wings Games

    by sturdy1 on 2010-10-04Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 3 out of 5

The game was well played but the seats with obstructed view were really poor, unless of course you have x-ray vision and can see through four feet of concrete. In my opinion, as a sports fan and attendee of many games at various venues, these obstructed view seats should not even be offered for sale. Leafs played well, great power play and looking forward to seeing more as these young team grows and matures together.

  • good contest leafs vs wings farm team

by BroExpress on 2010-10-04Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 3 out of 5

game was a good test for the leafs day one line-up..enough veterans along with a bunch of hungry players from Grand Rapids...Leafs need to shore up their defence and goalkeeping but otherwise the forwards are moving in the right direction

  • Leafs Show Up in Pre-Season!

by pmbartca on 2010-09-29Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

When you pay good money for a Pre-Season game, you want the regular lines to show up with a commitment to play. This game delivered. With more good hits and overall physical play this would have been a 5 star game...

  • Coke Zero Fans First Game Sept 21, 2010

    by DG99 on 2010-09-28Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 3 out of 5

The Fans First Game was a lot of fun. Although the giveaways to the fans when I entered the A.C.C was really cheap noise sticks???? I thought they can do better than that. This is my third time going and my seats were pretty good, can view the arena well but my seat never got picked once to either go on the ice for a jersey or in the locker room meet and greet. I hope next year will be better than the other years and blow the fans away. I hope that the free gifts are not just coke products but I think that they should be a mix of both Maple Leafs and Coke Zero. We are here to see the Leafs play and not just to drink Coke. How do they pick the fans to play those awsome games during intermission. I'm really interested in doing them. Maybe next time I hope. DG

  • Leaf Preseason

by Bigjonnygee on 2010-09-27Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 2 out of 5

The game was good; but my seats had an obstructed view due to the private boxes protruding over my sight line. There were some open seats we moved to that were unobstructed thankfully.

love hockey! great sport event - too bad leafs lost though:)

  • Tornoto Maple Leafs vs Ottawa Senators

by BaGG on 2010-09-26Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Well what can I say, I have been a Leaf fan for years, and have had the chance to catch a few games at the old Maple Leafs Gardens. This though was my first oportuntiy to catch a game at the ACC, and it was everything I had hoped it would be. My seats were amazing, 16 rows up in which I could see everything the ACC had to offer. I was pretty much awe struck when I first entered the arena area, all the people and the atmosphere in general, it will be a memory that I won't soon forget. Although the Leafs weren't able to come up with a win, it didn't matter, as the experience alone was worth it! I would recommed to anyone who likes hockey in general, go see a game at the ACC, it was awesome!

  • Section 313 & Obstructed Seats (313X)

by Coley on 2010-09-26Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 1 out of 5

Obstructed seats from seats 7and up (7-12) in rows above 8X are bad. Why? If you like not being able to see the net below in your end of the ice, these seats will provide you with just that, (3D VIEW of seats on the web & Leafs website is inaccurate). You have to watch the score clock, which is far away, to see what's going on in the end below your seats. How right is this considering you're paying for these seats, parking, food, etc..? People in seats 7 and higher (7-12) walked up higher so they could stand up in the standing room area. What's wrong with this picture? Inappropriate I think. The obstruction is a result of the protruding restaurant suites. If MLSE wanted to spend some money to help provide these people with a solution, they could put up some form of large screen TV in the area above these seats with a camera view of the area that is being obstructed. The solution exists, but I don't know if they want to or ever plan to spend the money to provide the paying customer with it. If they ever did implement such a remedy, I'd tip my hat to them and applaud their actions as it would be the right thing to do and be brilliant at that. Where there is a problem, their is always a fix, IF THEY WANT TO FIX IT! If their claim is that there is no bad seat in the ACC, then without this solution being implemented, that claim is untrue. My advice is to stay away from seats 7 an up in rows 8 and higher in sections 313 & 317 or anything that states obstructed view, until a solution is put in place. Standing room is better! At least you will be able to see the net in standing room!

  • leafs vs senators

    by mover007 on 2010-09-24Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 1 out of 5

seats were terrible - section 317 row 14 - really obstructed view - could not see 1/3 of ice Also sitting right under air vents so freezing cold. These seats should not be sold to unsuspecting public but donated to charities. Tickets were automatically selected by Ticket Master

Thank you Toronto for teaching Ottawa a thing or two! Sweeeet Revenge!

  • They need practice.

by ViFo on 2010-09-23Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 1 out of 5

I heard on the radio, the coach said "We need to practice...". Well, for the money they make, they shouldn't need that much practice.

  • Fans First GAme

by Poggi on 2010-09-23Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 2 out of 5

It was an alright game. I would have like to see more of the contract players on the ice that are going to play the whole season. I did not like that most of them are trying out to be on the team. They did not score a single goal for this game. I had good seats though. I would have liked to see Kessel and Bozak play together with the other player Caputi, The monster played well in net even though it was his first game. I would like to see him in net more often than J.S.G The monster is big and with more playing time he will be the best goalie in the NHL.
