Toronto Maple Leafs History

The Toronto Maple Leafs have 13 Stanley Cup Championships and seven division championships, with more than 60 former players, coaches and executives in the Hockey Hall of Fame. The Maple Leafs were one of the NHL's founding teams in 1917. They originally were known as the Arenas and then the St. Patricks before taking their current name in 1927 after Conn Smythe bought the franchise.

The team won two Stanley Cup Championships in the NHL's first five years and returned to the finals in 1932 behind the "Kid Line" of eventual Hall of Famers Charlie Conacher, Joe Primeau, and Busher Jackson. In 1942, they defeated the Detroit Red Wings in seven games to win the first of five Stanley Cup Championships under coach Hap Day. The addition the following year of center Ted Kennedy helped the Leafs maintain their dominance, and resulted in another title in 1951.

The Leafs won three Stanley Cup Championships in a row starting in 1962, and another in the 1966-1967 season, thanks to a roster brimming with players who would end up in the Hall of Fame: George Armstrong, Johnny Bower, Red Kelly, Dave Keon, Tim Horton, Allan Stanley, Bob Pulford, and Frank Mahovlich.

The team returned to the conference finals in 1992-1993 and 1993-1994, then again in 1998-1999—the latter trip powered by eventual franchise scoring leader Mats Sundin. The Maple Leafs have appeared in the Playoffs every year consecutively since 2017. The Toronto Maple Leafs have made the Playoffs a total of 74 times to date.

Even though they lost, it was so much fun. We got tickets in section 106 row 8 - seats 3&4 they view was amazing. There was also a lot of fun stuff to do during commercial breaks, The seats are really comfy and the ACC is very clean!!

  • Fun even without a goal!

by Meowsy on 2010-09-23Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

This leaf game was so much fun. I felt like a little kid......with all the heckling I did. Even though my team couldn't manage a single goal......it was amazing to see it up close and personal. The players look so big in real life and boy are they fast. My son was picked to receive a player worn jersey at the end of the game. He still hasn't taken the smile off his face. It will be a lifetime memory for him for sure.

Printing out my tickets throught Ticketmaster is very convenient, and there is no hassle at the gates with presenting my black/white print outs. The Fans First game is a wonderful event, and I look forward to it every year. The freebies handed out before the game is a bonus...no t-shirt this year though, but a couple of free Cokes is nice : ) I will continue to support this event in the future!

  • defence

    by jobser12345 on 2010-09-23Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

well as far as i can see, the leafs need to work on their defence, players from ottawa are all over the leaf net and there is only one defence man battling two or three players.

  • Fans First Game - great for kids

by spunkymonkey on 2010-09-23Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

My daughter is 7 years old and not a huge hockey fan by any means. What a great way for us to see a game together. #1 FREE tickets. #2 All the Fan Zone stuff open to everyone #3 free stuff like coke, tattooos, and those loud 'thundersticks'. She didn't know that the first pre-season game is mostly a bunch of players we don't know, trying to make the squad. We even got to see a few fights which she got a kick out of. Anyway, bottom line I would recommend this every year if Coke does it again (THANKS COKE!!) They really put on a good show for the youngsters. Hope you do it again next year!

  • by trinimel on 2010-09-23Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

It was fun to be there. Had great seats. But the game itself sucked because the Maple Leafs lost in a bad way. Luckily it is only the beginning.

  • Coca Cola Fans First Game Leafs vs. Senators

by MChow on 2010-09-23Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 1 out of 5

I recommend this event because it was free and I cannot afford otherwise. It was free entertainment that you can relax and enjoy but the Leafs were terrible. They could not score at all even with all those powerplay chances and some of those powerplay chances were 5 on 3 too. That pretty bad, should have been able to score with that many powerplay chances or at least with the 5 0n 3. They also could not kill penalities. It looks like their defence or goaltending did not improve at all either from what I saw since last year and that goes for the penalty killing or the powerplay as well. They can hit, but do not end up with the puck after, they can't or don't seem to check or block shots, or take the man out of or away from their own net. What kind of defence is this? And the forward should assist in the defence in their own end, not just standing around. They seem to have problems clearing the puck out of their own end, have trouble shooting the puck on the senators net, can't pass well or get rebounds either. Thank god it is only a pre-season game! Hopefully, they straighten things out before the season starts or it will be another long wasted year.

  • Maples Leafs SucK!

by TaterTots on 2010-09-23Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 3 out of 5

I'm glad I didn't pay for these tickets. The leafs are absolutely terrible! They've been rebuilding for 50 years.

  • Amazing time!

by Geoffy on 2010-09-23Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Thanks to coke for giving me the opportunity to watch the leafs. I cant afford seats ever so it was a dream come true. It was also pretty amazing when Brad May and his daughter sat down with us to watch the second period. All in all, an amazing day.

by Leafsfanstill on 2010-09-23Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Went to the season opener for the Leafs and although the game was not that great (lost 5-0 to Ottawa...) we had a ton of fun!!! What a fun night with Coke Zero!

  • Maple Leafs #1... My Dad

    by Marino67 on 2010-09-23Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

I won two tickets through the Coke Zero's "Fans First Game" promotion to see the Toronto Maple Leafs play their rivals (the hated Ottawa Senators). My dad, the Maple Leafs biggest follower, went with me - and it was great. Unfortunately, they didn't win and, worse, didn't score. But it didn't matter, we had a great time getting out and being a part of our great city.

  • The Tail Gate Party Was a HIT

    by Rusty123 on 2010-09-23Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

The Outdoor Tail Gate Party was Good Ball Hockey , Interactive Stage, Leaf Alumni ETC The Trews were fantastic. Could have a few more sponsers ( Q107 / Chum etc ) The Leaf should have come out with their "A" Game instead of their "B" Game.

  • First game blues

by MilaScarborough on 2010-09-23Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 1 out of 5

I've never seen the Leafs play so bad, although the Senators got booed at every entrance and goal, it seemed to do nothing more than spur them on!

  • Too much beer drinking and yelling

by Observer on 2010-09-23Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 3 out of 5

We had seats beside someone who drank about 4 large litres of beer and who was yelling like anything. All around us too many people drinking beer and their voices getting louder. The game had too many Rookies..for the Maple Leafs. we lost.

  • Not a good start

by TrueLeafFan on 2010-09-23Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 3 out of 5

Leafe forgot to show up for the preseason opener and I'm quite sure the ACC has employed a new sound person. Our ears were blasted a number of times. Other than that, heading out to a Leaf game has always been tops on my list. Here is to a better season. GO LEAFS GO!

  • by OldeDad on 2010-09-23Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 2 out of 5

Coke put on a good show, the Leafs didn't. It's a good thing they no longer play in Maple Leaf Gardens, they are an embarassement to the tradition of teams that did play there - with glory
