Toronto Maple Leafs History

The Toronto Maple Leafs have 13 Stanley Cup Championships and seven division championships, with more than 60 former players, coaches and executives in the Hockey Hall of Fame. The Maple Leafs were one of the NHL's founding teams in 1917. They originally were known as the Arenas and then the St. Patricks before taking their current name in 1927 after Conn Smythe bought the franchise.

The team won two Stanley Cup Championships in the NHL's first five years and returned to the finals in 1932 behind the "Kid Line" of eventual Hall of Famers Charlie Conacher, Joe Primeau, and Busher Jackson. In 1942, they defeated the Detroit Red Wings in seven games to win the first of five Stanley Cup Championships under coach Hap Day. The addition the following year of center Ted Kennedy helped the Leafs maintain their dominance, and resulted in another title in 1951.

The Leafs won three Stanley Cup Championships in a row starting in 1962, and another in the 1966-1967 season, thanks to a roster brimming with players who would end up in the Hall of Fame: George Armstrong, Johnny Bower, Red Kelly, Dave Keon, Tim Horton, Allan Stanley, Bob Pulford, and Frank Mahovlich.

The team returned to the conference finals in 1992-1993 and 1993-1994, then again in 1998-1999—the latter trip powered by eventual franchise scoring leader Mats Sundin. The Maple Leafs have appeared in the Playoffs every year consecutively since 2017. The Toronto Maple Leafs have made the Playoffs a total of 74 times to date.

I just love going to a Leaf game for free. My seats in the 100 section would have cost over $200 each. Too bad the Leafs did not win. It is only an exhibition game.

  • Too Bad The TML's Lost

by MadeinItaly on 2010-04-09Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 3 out of 5

Even though we were in the nose bleed section and the team at times played at house league level :) not to mention they are in last place with no chance of making it to the playoffs, we had a great time, GO LEAFS GO !!!! (spoken like a true fan). LOL

  • LEAFS LAST HOME GAME

  • Obstructed seats are terrible!!

by amykins on 2010-04-02Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 3 out of 5

The game was great, the fans were great. What wasn't though was that we sat in obstructed seats in the corner behind the net and that net we were closest to was barely visible b/c of the "executive suites" that hang down into your sight line of the ice. I can't begin to tell you how frustrating it is watching the play go into the corner and having no idea what is happening!!! Eyes jumping back and forth between the rink and the jumbotron and missing some of the game you paid to see. I would of course recommend going to any Leafs game b/c it's always a good time but would strongly recommend avoiding purchasing seats that are listed as "obstructed view".

  • Leafs vs. Sabres April 1st 2010

by TrueTrueGJH on 2010-04-02Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

I went with three people that had never been to a Leafs game before so they were super excited and it made me very excited as well. When the Leafs' Viktor Stalberg got the first goal that beat Ryan Miller on his glove side, it was legendary. Hearing the Leafs goal horn in real life is something special. I heard it a lot that night. I think anyone that talks badly about the Leafs needs to go to an actual Leafs game just to get the feel of it. It's one thing to watch the game in HD with surround sound, but actually being at the game is something else.

  • even when The Leafs lose the game am a fan!!

    by Eliza22latinhottie on 2010-03-31Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

it was amazing, Antropov scored the winning goal on a deflection to lead the Atlanta Thrashers to a 3-2 victory over The leafs, who didn't have much hope to begin with – from post-season contention. but at least last night i was able to see better performance from the players and not the usual massive attack that this players show(any team in general) I am a devoted fan of the Leafs, the tickets were a bit expensive but i would love to bring my family in the future!!!!!! " GO LEAFS GO"

  • Boring Team = Boring Game

    by Tbone54 on 2010-03-29Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 1 out of 5

Game was just flat out boring. The most excitement was in our section with a bunch of arguing over pop corn. Took security a good 20 minutes to react. I'm glad its my last game of the year.

  • Leafs Loose 4:1 but outshoot Panthers

by EnglishMajor on 2010-03-26Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

Planning on going again next year.Would go to any game.

  • The Leafs are PATHETIC!

    by Mikey620 on 2010-03-24Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 1 out of 5

That was the worst display of hockey I had ever seen in my life. After seeing them lose terribly to the Florida Panthers I now know why their the worse team in the league. They seriously need to pull their act together or they will eventually lose their fan base.

  • Game was terrible, experience was great!

by JBTO on 2010-03-24Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 3 out of 5

The Air Canada Centre is one of the most well-appointed hockey arenas in the world; having been to see the Rangers play Madison Square Garden 4 days prior to last night's game, I can say to a fairly high degree of certainty that for all its lore, history, and renown, it is a very poorly-designed arena in comparison. The views at the ACC are good from every seat, and even from the stands right at the top. The only problem is that the view is typically of a very poorly-played hockey game. This was no exception. What a dud.

  • First Hockeygame in ACC was great!

by Sandla on 2010-03-24Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

by KingofTheGame on 2010-03-19Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Yes, I was made King of the Game and was brought to seats at the glass for the 3rd period. Fun! Fun! Fun! Just had to wear a crown for the entire 3rd period. I would have stripped naked for seats that close. Leafs won in a shoot out!!!

  • Great seats!

It was my first time watching my favourite team, the Toronto Maple Leafs, at the Air Canada Center. If i can get tickets again, i'd go back. Great that they beat the Oilers 6 - 4. Went home happy and i'll frame my ticket!
