Toronto Maple Leafs History

The Toronto Maple Leafs have 13 Stanley Cup Championships and seven division championships, with more than 60 former players, coaches and executives in the Hockey Hall of Fame. The Maple Leafs were one of the NHL's founding teams in 1917. They originally were known as the Arenas and then the St. Patricks before taking their current name in 1927 after Conn Smythe bought the franchise.

The team won two Stanley Cup Championships in the NHL's first five years and returned to the finals in 1932 behind the "Kid Line" of eventual Hall of Famers Charlie Conacher, Joe Primeau, and Busher Jackson. In 1942, they defeated the Detroit Red Wings in seven games to win the first of five Stanley Cup Championships under coach Hap Day. The addition the following year of center Ted Kennedy helped the Leafs maintain their dominance, and resulted in another title in 1951.

The Leafs won three Stanley Cup Championships in a row starting in 1962, and another in the 1966-1967 season, thanks to a roster brimming with players who would end up in the Hall of Fame: George Armstrong, Johnny Bower, Red Kelly, Dave Keon, Tim Horton, Allan Stanley, Bob Pulford, and Frank Mahovlich.

The team returned to the conference finals in 1992-1993 and 1993-1994, then again in 1998-1999—the latter trip powered by eventual franchise scoring leader Mats Sundin. The Maple Leafs have appeared in the Playoffs every year consecutively since 2017. The Toronto Maple Leafs have made the Playoffs a total of 74 times to date.

bought tickets to tampa vs Leafs at ACC; sat in one of the gondola's; it was very convenient with the bar right there and pizza and popcorn available (I still think for what I paid for the tickets the popcorn should have been free though); the game started out so/so but finished with a bang ; very exciting third period and an unreal overtime; a great evening was tarnished by a few young folks (in their twenties) who drank too much and then cursed and swore at each other through the second half of the game; ended with a girl throwing beer all over some innocent bystanders (including my son and I ); there was very little security around during this whole thing; i guess they dont expect that type of behaviour in the gondola's; other than that , though, Phil Kessel scored in overtime for a great finish !!

  • My Leafs "seats"

    by stp1 on 2010-03-10Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 2 out of 5

A good game - the leafs won in OT However, our "seats" were not quite that. We were made to stand for the entire game in the last row of the section. Pretty crappy for $45 a pop. I'm going to watch the Raptors instead, where I can get an actual seat in a good section for the same price.

It was a good game. Our first NHL game. To bad the leafs lost though. We will definately be going back again. Hopefully the leafs win the next one.

Toronto's playing was lousy. My first time watching live. Too bad Hamilton couldn't bring in a professional team in.

The leafs stunk the joint out and it was a total team effort in the loss.

it was the worst hockey game that I have ever seen. It was like they had never played hockey before. They were like spectators not players. They weren't even trying. I spent all that money for nothing.

  • Leafs vs Hurricanes

by Canadaluver on 2010-03-03Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 1 out of 5

I cannot believe, as the first game after we won the Olympics, this would be such a bad game. The Leafs barely made an effort, and when they did, could not execute a single play. They would have been shut out 5-0 had not been for a desperately needed goal in the last 10 minutes. This Leafs team does not deserve to be in the NHL. They are a disgrace. GTA needs a second team to kick this franchise's sorry butt.

by UNHAPPYLEAF on 2010-02-09Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 1 out of 5

Do not buy obstructed seats they are not worth the reduced price. The seats were in section 300 level and in the Metro area.

  • Better Than Expected!

Nice to see Thornton and Heatly as we don't see them play Toronto very often. I thought we did a great job and losing 4-3 was not so bad at all considering that SJ is top in division.

  • Leafs VS Sens was INSANE!

I'm sure my opinion would be shared by the other 18,000 people in attendance Saturday night, that was the most amazing game ever held at the ACC

We were in the Standing Room only area, so seating was not ideal however we had a pretty good view. The game was great! It is an unforgettable experience!!
