Toronto Maple Leafs History

The Toronto Maple Leafs have 13 Stanley Cup Championships and seven division championships, with more than 60 former players, coaches and executives in the Hockey Hall of Fame. The Maple Leafs were one of the NHL's founding teams in 1917. They originally were known as the Arenas and then the St. Patricks before taking their current name in 1927 after Conn Smythe bought the franchise.

The team won two Stanley Cup Championships in the NHL's first five years and returned to the finals in 1932 behind the "Kid Line" of eventual Hall of Famers Charlie Conacher, Joe Primeau, and Busher Jackson. In 1942, they defeated the Detroit Red Wings in seven games to win the first of five Stanley Cup Championships under coach Hap Day. The addition the following year of center Ted Kennedy helped the Leafs maintain their dominance, and resulted in another title in 1951.

The Leafs won three Stanley Cup Championships in a row starting in 1962, and another in the 1966-1967 season, thanks to a roster brimming with players who would end up in the Hall of Fame: George Armstrong, Johnny Bower, Red Kelly, Dave Keon, Tim Horton, Allan Stanley, Bob Pulford, and Frank Mahovlich.

The team returned to the conference finals in 1992-1993 and 1993-1994, then again in 1998-1999—the latter trip powered by eventual franchise scoring leader Mats Sundin. The Maple Leafs have appeared in the Playoffs every year consecutively since 2017. The Toronto Maple Leafs have made the Playoffs a total of 74 times to date.

Excellent facility and electric atmosphere. I was particularly impressed with the staff at the ACC, It was definately an excellent an very memorable experience. I look forward to the next chance I get to not only experience the game but also take in the Hockey Hall of Fame and all the other things available for the avid Leaf (and hockey) fan.

The leafs are showing some grit and spunk. Toskala had another great game. Hope he keeps it up.

The Leafs/Islanders game was great. The Leafs played well. John Tavares is already one of the top players in the league.

  • # 22 Beauch..... what a shot he had!

The seats were good, just wish we could afford to come to a Leafs game. They are just too expensive!

I think this was one of the best games that I've ever attended. The fans are just great and the Leafs played awesome.

got last minute tickets to the game in the morning...went with my best friend, we had a great time! The only thing that could change is the price of the tickets could go down, even so it was an awesome evening and I would definitely do it again.

Game was awesome, seats were in the rafters, but enjoyed the game regardless.

  • Leafs versus Thrashers - A Great evening

by LeafLovingDad on 2009-12-09Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

My son and I watched our Leafs beat the Atlanta Thrashers on December 8th. The team was great and so were the fans.

Great Event and time to take the future Leaf Fans to the arena and get to see what it means to be a part of Leaf Nation.

  • Leafs fairly good ticket, just high priced

    by Russian98 on 2009-12-08Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

Though the Leafs won 5-2, the overall ice product was awful. Leafs out scored the opposition, though the night was like a Comedy of Errors, only difference was for some reason the Leaf netminder was better (this was not a misprint) yes Toskala had a good night, though he still ended up letting up 2 weak goals in the 3rd, he was spectacular in the 1st two. Players like Kaberle, White, Kessel and Hagman are the only reason to see the 09/10 Leafs, Poni's play has been borderline good, tonight was one of the better ones. The usual Toronto Maple Leaf introduction was terrific. We went for Sausages at Burkie's dogs at area 120, the Cheese dogs from my friends said they were great. I had the onion dog which was fairly good. Beers are too expensive, as are the tickets, though going with a couple of friends, and the rest of the crowd is great. Try catching a hockey game on the Island, or Chicago, right now the Isle has a speedy team and the tickets are cheap and the arena/fans make it feel like an OHL game, where as the United Center feels like old times, crowd is really into it, and the team is a high caliber one. Though if your a fan of the Leafs, it's never a bad idea to go, even through rough times.

  • A Thrashing

by Pdaddy on 2009-12-08Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 3 out of 5

I had a good time and the seats were fine. Fortunately, all the goals occurred on my side of the blueline so there was no obstruction. However, it was difficult to see any action down at the other side of the arena.

  • Amazing Games

by wlukin on 2009-12-08Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Seats were incredible... game was so amazing to be at! I just wish the Leafs tickets could go down in price, so I could go more often!

  • Fun for all

by JSwish on 2009-12-08Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

Great event! Would have liked to have seen all the minor hockey players get a chance to take part in the shoot-out. 2 went and 4 were left out!

  • Leafs were awesome against Atlanta

by Opie on 2009-12-08Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

My son and I sat in the very last row at the ACC. I would recommend these seats to anyone trying to make a Leaf game at a somewhat reasonable price. $55.00 / ticket.

The skills competition was a great experience for myself and my family to see the Toronto Maple Leafs other than in a game situation. It was fun had by all and it was great to see the Leafs interact with the young hockey players. We look forward to going again next year.

  • Excellent Family Fun

by Chickstilldigus on 2009-12-07Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

An all around great event. Money raised for charity, local kids competing with their heroes, and a great family atmosphere. Lots of fun and very affordable.

  • leafs skills competition was fun

by Kylewithdad on 2009-12-07Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 3 out of 5

Had excellent seats & my son & I enjoyed the event , however , I wished that each player would do the same skill at each end so they didn't just have one or two opportunities to display their skill. They obviously tried to entertain with some challenging shots, moves, talents , so another few opportunities makes sense at both ends of the rink. More Leaf skills . less cell phone owner giveaways ! Its about hockey .

had a great time, perfect event for the family reasonably priced

  • Very Entertaining

    by 2cans on 2009-12-07Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

I took my son, and we both enjoyed watching the players do what they do best. It was really nice to see the players laughing, joking around and just relaxing. Fans in Toronto can often be cruel, but this is where you will find true fans-through good and not so good.
