Toronto Maple Leafs History

The Toronto Maple Leafs have 13 Stanley Cup Championships and seven division championships, with more than 60 former players, coaches and executives in the Hockey Hall of Fame. The Maple Leafs were one of the NHL's founding teams in 1917. They originally were known as the Arenas and then the St. Patricks before taking their current name in 1927 after Conn Smythe bought the franchise.

The team won two Stanley Cup Championships in the NHL's first five years and returned to the finals in 1932 behind the "Kid Line" of eventual Hall of Famers Charlie Conacher, Joe Primeau, and Busher Jackson. In 1942, they defeated the Detroit Red Wings in seven games to win the first of five Stanley Cup Championships under coach Hap Day. The addition the following year of center Ted Kennedy helped the Leafs maintain their dominance, and resulted in another title in 1951.

The Leafs won three Stanley Cup Championships in a row starting in 1962, and another in the 1966-1967 season, thanks to a roster brimming with players who would end up in the Hall of Fame: George Armstrong, Johnny Bower, Red Kelly, Dave Keon, Tim Horton, Allan Stanley, Bob Pulford, and Frank Mahovlich.

The team returned to the conference finals in 1992-1993 and 1993-1994, then again in 1998-1999—the latter trip powered by eventual franchise scoring leader Mats Sundin. The Maple Leafs have appeared in the Playoffs every year consecutively since 2017. The Toronto Maple Leafs have made the Playoffs a total of 74 times to date.

The Toronto vs. Buffalo game wwas very exciting. The seats we had were comfortable and we had a great view of the game. The stuff that happened during the commercial breaks was fun to watch. I would recommend the experience to any hockey fans.

At the beginning of the first period for the first few minutes it looked like half of the Leafs never showed up to practice but within 5 minutes all had changed by the end of the first we were up 2-0. In the second it looked grim as we quickly were down 3-2. We then rallied back to a 4-3 lead by the second intermission. The third period was full of back and forth action, we were down then we tied at 5-5. Buffalo quickly got ahead to a 7-5 lead and we thought we were done. They got an amazing goal with about a minute and a half to go and we there was a few times in that last minute of play that we thought it could get tied. All in All a great game, the only thing that would of made it better was the win, Oh Well Save it for the Home Opener of Thursday, GO LEAFS GO!!

  • Leafs Game

by SunnyLeaf on 2009-09-28Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 3 out of 5

I got seats for the game through ticketmaster, we were sitting at the very last row, on the roof if you will, at ACC. Couple of good points about the seats. Although being high up, the view was very good, we could see everything. Second thing that I noticed was that a TV had been installed so that you could follow along or see replays which I think is a must for anyone sitting up that high. I like the touch of tshirts being offered/thrown to fans in our section also. The last point was that concessions (drinks, food etc) were sold at the seats which is another change that is for the better. I think the pricing for those seats could be lowered a touch but it was an enjoyable experience overall.

  • Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Buffalo Sabres

by JackSprat on 2009-09-28Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

It took about 6 months of my savings for my 6 year old son to attend his first Maple Leaf hockey game...but it was worth every penny! We had great seats, my son recieved a hockey card and a pen when he entered the ACC and proudly wore his Mite hockey jersey with his number and name on the back to show the other Maple Leaf players that he too was a hockey player. My son got to meet Walter Gretzky who not only posed for a picture with my son, but signed an autograph. Mr Gretzky was so kind and patient with all the people that wanted to speak to him, but was especially gracious to my son. My son eats, lives and breaths hockey - last nights game was a dream come true for him.

  • Leafs Vs Wings - Sat. Sept. 26th 2009

by gobi on 2009-09-28Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

My son and I had a fantastic time! Not only did the Leafs beat the Detroit Red Wings for the second night in a row, we received an autographed Leafs jersey signed by Wendle Clark. That made my son's night!!! I would attend a Leafs game in a heart beat!!!!

Had a great time, event though we were in the upper bowl this time. The game was fast paced and our goalie stood on his head the whole game. Great game.

The game was amazing and my son and i had a blast.

  • Leafs vs Detroit

    by RunningMan99 on 2009-09-27Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 3 out of 5

Great seats for a corner view of the game and amazing experience. However, these seats were not what I expected as the line of view down the right side of the rink and through the glass made that area obscure. Row 4, seats 9-10 section 110; next to the Zamboni. Great for corner and zone viewing, but not for seeing a whole game.

  • Leafs played awesome

by Alexman on 2009-09-27Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

despite the fact the game was a little slow the leafs showed they came to play

  • Good preseason game. Very good seats.

    by J0eY on 2009-09-27Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

Leafs won 2-1 and we had excellent seats behind and to the right of the goaltender. Only complaint is that I'm 6'1, wide shoulders so it was a little cramped.

  • Awesome!
