Toronto Raptors History

The Toronto Raptors were founded in 1995 as part of the NBA's expansion into Canada. The Raptors have been the only NBA team based in Canada since the 2001–02 season. After acquiring eight-time All-Star Vince Carter in 1998, the Raptors set league-wide attendance records and made the playoffs from 2000 to 2002. Led by Carter, the Raptors earned their first playoff series win in 2001 and advanced to the Eastern Conference semifinals.

The Raptors didn't return to the playoffs until the 2006–07 season, when they won the Atlantic Division title. After Masai Ujiri joined as the team's General Manager in 2013, the Raptors became a consistent playoff team, winning five division titles and having their most successful season in 2018. The following year, during the 2019 playoffs, the Raptors earned their first Eastern Conference title and went on to win their first NBA championship, defeating the Warriors in 6 games.

  • Raptors kicked butt!!!

by virgster on 2010-11-24Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

I am not the biggest basketball fan, but everyone I have attended has been very enjoyable...I love hockey and baseball, but basketball games have way more entertainment and are a lot of fun for the whole family. Now if we could just get beer prices down it would be beyond amazing!!!

lots of turns, weak start for Raptors, average play of Celtics, they underestimated Toronto and the lost momentum in 3rd and the begining of 4th quarter was too late to restore at the end of the game.

Watched a close knit game agianst the Celtics! Best seats I've ever had to a Raptors game. Solid opponent to watch against in the Boston Celtics and Dick Bavetta was one of the refs as well!

  • The Toronto Raptors score high on entertainment!

by MMcP on 2010-11-23Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

What a game to bring some out of town friends to. The tension lasted til the final second with the Toronto Raptors holding on to a 1 point lead to beat the Boston Celtics. It was such a great buzz. A fantastic afternoon's entertainment, with no down-time. Even the time-outs were filled with fun family events. Looking forward to my next visit to the Air Canada Centre.

The game was amazing. Our team played well against a very high-ranked team. It was a high-scoring game with a lot of energy. The players brought their A-game.

  • Nailbiter to the end

by fiori on 2010-11-23Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

As this was a gift to my sons - I will relay what their thoughts. They game was absolutely fabulous. They had pretty good seats and had a fabulous time. Everything went relatively smoothly with the exception of the people at the door who seemed to be having diffiulties with the scanners and this was a problem for a lot of the fans. They would go out and then when they came back in they were questioned about their tickets. Obviously the system is not a great oneas this happened apparently to about 6 people my one son included. They actually made him feel like a criminal at one point even though he had the receipt for the ticket. That is the only down side. The game itself they enjoyed.

  • I think a lot of people were disappointed!!!

    by Lizzard123 on 2010-11-21Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 3 out of 5

We were glad that the Raptors won, but I think many people r spending good money hoping that certain players will be playing & they r not even in a jersey. I think most people went hoping 2 c Yao Ming, but he was no where 2 b seen.

The Raptors need to learn how to shoot baskets and make the ball go in. They also need to learn how to defend.

  • Homeopener was great!

raps lost, that was disappointing but we all got free shirts

  • by Jinky on 2010-10-29Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

I'm not a huge basketball fan, it was a gift for my wife because she enjoys the game. I will say this though, the Raptors really put on a hell of a show and I had a good time. They may very well end up in last place this year but they play with a lot of heart and they love this city.

  • Fun opening night

by jccheung on 2010-10-29Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

This game was the home and season opener for the Raptors and as usual I sat in the cheapest seats in the upper bowl. The only problem with our particular seats was that the upper portion of the video scoreboard that displays the in-game statistics was blocked from our view due to the overhanging gondola box seats. For dinner, I had the always delicious BBQ pork sandwich and I also tried the new Jamie Kennedy Fries stand on the 300 level. While the fries were tasty, I found the sea salt used was a little too salty and for $6.50 the portion size is way too small. The chili mayo was delicious though. It was nice to find a free Raptors t-shirt draped on our seats when we got to them as every fan in attendance received one. The game itself was kind of uneven as both teams didn't play the best and the Raptors lost but it was a fun evening nonetheless.
