Toronto Raptors History

The Toronto Raptors were founded in 1995 as part of the NBA's expansion into Canada. The Raptors have been the only NBA team based in Canada since the 2001–02 season. After acquiring eight-time All-Star Vince Carter in 1998, the Raptors set league-wide attendance records and made the playoffs from 2000 to 2002. Led by Carter, the Raptors earned their first playoff series win in 2001 and advanced to the Eastern Conference semifinals.

The Raptors didn't return to the playoffs until the 2006–07 season, when they won the Atlantic Division title. After Masai Ujiri joined as the team's General Manager in 2013, the Raptors became a consistent playoff team, winning five division titles and having their most successful season in 2018. The following year, during the 2019 playoffs, the Raptors earned their first Eastern Conference title and went on to win their first NBA championship, defeating the Warriors in 6 games.

  • If only the Raptors had won

by Anonymous on 2010-10-29Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

My daughter and I went to the homeopener. A good time enjoyed by all. The view from our seats was great. The only complaint I had was any anouncements I could not hear from the floor. What Bargnani had to say? Plan on going again.

Raptor's FanJam was a "must do" for any true NBA supporters. Hey, my 15 year old son, who's a basketball player, huge fan, knows the game and all the players...got his picture taken with 6 of the Raptors Dance Pak girls at FanJam this year, "HELLOOOOOOOOOOOW" as Jack Armstrong would say!

  • by Anonymous on 2010-10-26Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 1 out of 5

It was boring, not much fan interaction. Swag was tossed at only those sitting courtside, how disappointing for the kids not privy to those seats. Left halfway through.

  • Raps Fan Jam - Awesome!

by DCindahouse on 2010-10-26Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Awesome idea. Was great to get a glimpse of what happens before the actual game. The drills, the scrimmage, the amount of work these guys put in, makes you appreciate the team more. And as always, the entertainment portion was fun - from the mascot, to the dancers and probably best of all the fan contests. Great way to thank the fans.

  • nice match!

by andreaqlm on 2010-10-20Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

I seldom watch basket ball and I knew little about the rules. But since I am in Canada, I think I should watch at least a match. However it was fantastic! Not only the host team won, but also I saw my beloved player Steve Nash, who is also a Canadian. Now I have enough things to make my friends in my hometown envy me XDDD and I am thinking about watch one game again. BTW, the cheapest price is totally worth it!!!

Very Boring. I did not get excited though out the game.

  • WAs ok

    by mike79 on 2010-10-19Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 3 out of 5

The game was ok , it was not spectacular and the players were playing half gas cause the it was a pre season game.

  • by Jessimica on 2010-10-19Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

Good centre seats, we won and great view. Slightly pricy for pre-season tho.

  • Double Dose of Rap-Tac-ism

    by WopDa53 on 2010-10-19Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

The previous meeting of these two team ended with a dominated performance by our Raps, I felt the opening half of this encounter was all Suns, Nash and Childress were solid!! The second half our young leader, Barnagni took the rains...and helped lead the team to good finish and a victory!!! Hedo Turk-a-BOOOOO stinks....in the nicest possible way!!! Very impressed with Klieza....coming from Greece in the off-season, he will put up 15-17 consistantly this season, which allows Jack and Calderon to equally spread the rock around for positive results!

  • Rap-tacular!!

    by WopDa53 on 2010-10-19Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

Going against the Mighty Celtics, in the pre-season.....I was not really expecting a Raptors win, but i felt they played pretty good two-way b-ball... WE WANT SHAQ.....WE WANT SHAQ...WE WANT SHAQ....chants combined with tasty soda pops, made for an enjoyable evening!

  • Raptors Rock!

Great fan experience. Gotta be a sellout if they want to be Canada's team. Good luck this year Raptors. Thanks for heading west! The players were very accessible and friendly with the crowd.

  • Unbelievalbe Experience

by raptorsAB on 2010-10-05UBC War Memorial Gymnasium - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

It was great to see the Raptors make there way out to Vancouver. I loved how it was more of a personal atmosphere, not something that you would see during a regular season game. the instra-squad game was exciting to watch as well, it was competitive (almost all players "fighting" for a starting position) The raptors are all very friendly taking pictures and signing autographs for everyone. All of this was for a cost at next to nothing! It is something that i will never forget.

  • very poor effort !!

by tonydog on 2010-04-13Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 1 out of 5

i went to see the raptors play the bulls in a game which was crucial with the final playoff spot in the East on the line. The raptors put in a terrible effort, no heart at all, without Chris Bosh they did not even look like an NBA team. I am not the biggest basketball fan but could there not be some kind of focus on the actual game ? I felt more like I was at a circus !! Cool it with the music, dancing girls and theatrics and put a decent product on the court !! It truly does not feel like a sporting event. Maybe I'm too old school for basketball but Ive been to NHL, NFL and MLB games and the game is still the focus. In this case the game itself sucked and all the hoopla around it didnt help.

  • Fans Showed Up---- Raptors Did Not

by Topfueler on 2010-04-13Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 3 out of 5

A pumped soldout crowd greets the Raps for a must WIN, the team does not, a listless, un-energetic bunch, who did not reach the expectations , they should have . One note, a swearing drunk fan, directly behind us, who eventually had to be ejected by security, which ate up the whole first period of play.
