Toronto Raptors History

The Toronto Raptors were founded in 1995 as part of the NBA's expansion into Canada. The Raptors have been the only NBA team based in Canada since the 2001–02 season. After acquiring eight-time All-Star Vince Carter in 1998, the Raptors set league-wide attendance records and made the playoffs from 2000 to 2002. Led by Carter, the Raptors earned their first playoff series win in 2001 and advanced to the Eastern Conference semifinals.

The Raptors didn't return to the playoffs until the 2006–07 season, when they won the Atlantic Division title. After Masai Ujiri joined as the team's General Manager in 2013, the Raptors became a consistent playoff team, winning five division titles and having their most successful season in 2018. The following year, during the 2019 playoffs, the Raptors earned their first Eastern Conference title and went on to win their first NBA championship, defeating the Warriors in 6 games.

  • Raptors get revenge in Home n' Home vs Bucks

    by Dub76 on 2010-01-26Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

First 3 quarters the Raps didn't look interested in playing, then came alive in the 4th! The Guys Night Out promo, was nice, free beer + a sandwich + a t-shirt, I would do it again. The only thing I would change is the number of people asking you for 50-50 tickets! My friend and I had at least 20 people ask us to play! A couple of them more than once! It got a little annoying after awhile.

Good seats, low upper level corner, and enthusiastic crowd. Game went down to the last second with unbelievable finish. Raptors games are total entertainment experience with contests, The Dance Pack, etc to keep you entertained. Recommend going to Raptors game.

I sat in my usual nosebleed seats and there isn't a bad seat in the house for basketball at the ACC. It was a great game filled with a lot of energy from the crowd and a great win by the Raptors.

  • Last second Raptors win over Kobe and the Lakers!

by sportssteve on 2010-01-25Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

I would not have missed this game, even though I am a huge NFL fan and both the AFC and NFC Championships were being played Sunday. As it turned out my choice was the right one, as this game was entertaining and fun to be a part of, especially with the Raptors winning at the end.

  • great as always

  • Best Raptors Game

by kduzdar on 2010-01-25Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

The Raptors had proved that they can beat any team. All the Players were great and played with confidence. I believe the Lakers weren't expecting to meet the new Raptors and Kobi would score over 60. That didn't happen. This should be a milstone to future games, and if the Raptors continues with the effort, they will be in th finals. If all the Players stays healty.

  • A nail biter!!!

by Machismo on 2010-01-25Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Absolutely amazing game. Great seats! You can't go wrong with 100 level seats. Witnessing the expression on Kobe's face after the disappointing loss – priceless!

Great game! Though I like them both, it's nice to see underdog team Raptors WIN against the Lakers.

  • Good times

The game itself was amazing, but I wish the lame chant leads would stop - it's just embarrassing.

  • Raptors beat the Lakers! Wow!

by PatrickS on 2010-01-25Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

What an epic game. It was very close throughout the game, with the Lakers holding a lead for most of the game. It seemed that every time the Raptors were close to tying or leading the game, the Lakers would go on a mini surge to create some breathing room. However, the Raptors never gave up and managed to lead when it mattered most. Kobe Bryant almost made another heroic shot in the last second, but it rimmed out and the Raptors survived. The Air Canada Centre is a great facility. The sightlines are great even in the upper bowl. The atmosphere was amazing as well. Everything from the pyrotechnics and lighting, the music, the P.A. announces, the mascot, and the Dance Pak contributed to the experience. And of course it helps when you have a building filled with some of the most passionate fans in the world, Laker fans included.
