The Tower of Power knows how to rock. Unfortunately, the sound was so loud that it was hard to hear the music, and the horns were overpowered by the drums, keyboards and vocalist. After listening for about 40 minutes, I left the theater with a friend, who told me that he was in pain from the level of the sound. I saw other people with their hands over their ears. The funny thing is that earlier in the day, I listened to the group's latest album on an iPod. I heard all the instruments, understood the vocal lines, and enjoyed the group's musical skills. So what happened between the recording studio and the concert? A friend told me that he had also seen Tower of Power at River Rock, and the sound was poor at that concert as well.

by Anonymous on 2009-12-31River Rock Show Theatre - RichmondThis band of 41 years still brings the house down. I have seen them every time they come to Vancouver B.C. and they all play brilliantly. Canada needs to get hold of this group and bring them in for way more dates. How about the Olympics, Grey Cup,Stanley cup. If you have never heard this group perform you are missing the best thing ever. GO AND SEE THEM!!!!!! P.S. They have a new CD out .......get it.

by Anonymous on 2009-12-31River Rock Show Theatre - RichmondToo busy to give a full review. Briefly, my wife and I loved the venue. It is far more intimate than the competing huge venues. We were in Row F and it felt like we were at a jam session with friends. Valet was parking was a nice treat. And the band was glorious in my view -- just as tight, funky and energetic as I have ever heard them. I used to be a serious keyboard player, and was absolutely thrilled with their keyboardist's solos. But, they were all wonderful players and singers.

Rating: 5 out of 5 TOP and Cold Blood... it doesn't get much better
by mapleleaffunkster on 2009-07-17Power Center - Ann ArborIf you love the music and you've never been to a TOP concert you're short changing your life. Being up in Canada I don't get to see Mimi,Doc, Dave and the guys as often as I'd like but when I heard they were bringing along Lydia Pense and Cold Blood, the deal was sealed. Turned off the lights, closed the door and drove for six hours. What can I tell you. Not a bad seat in the place , not that anyone was doing much sitting. This is a band that throws down and leaves people with perma-grin and the musicians in the audience awe-struck. If you've never heard Lydia, take Janis Joplin's personal nod.You need to hear her.
