The music was out of this world. But we could have done without the politics.
Bono and U2 put on quite a show Tuesday at the Bell Centre in Montreal. It lasted three hours and included more than 20 songs played on a series of stages at each end of the arena and even up in the rooftops.
The show was energetic with constant movement, changes of tempo and some impressive lighting. The constant changing of stage locations also gave all the fans a great chance to view the action.
But it also featured one of Bono's speeches of praise for Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau - something we probably could have lived without. At this performance, he praised Trudeau for advancements in women's rights and his work to house and take care of the world's oppressed. He said Trudeau was "providing the world a light in a very dark time."
The music started with Love is All We Have Left and included Gloria, Beautiful Day, Until The End of the World, Desire and more.
What it didn't include was "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For". Maybe, that's because Bono hasn't. The singer was once a critic of Trudeau's over women's rights, poverty and the prime minister's costume dress-up days. Now, he seems to be a strong supporter of Trudeau.
We didn't really need to hear that. What we needed to hear was the music. And we heard plenty of that. The show was almost three hours long and included 24 songs in all. Not a bad bang for the concert goers' buck. But take away the speeches and this show would have been just about the same length as most concerts. And we could have done without the speeches.
