About

Vampire Weekend is a two-time Grammy-winning alternative rock band currently composed of frontman Ezra Koenig, bassist Chris Baio and drummer Chris Tomson. Emerging from the mid-aughts indie rock scene in New York City out of Columbia University, Vampire Weekend released their self-titled debut to immediate critical and commercial success in 2008, with the album debuting at No. 17 on the Billboard 200 and its breakout single “A-Punk” earning an RIAA platinum certification. The band’s 2010 follow-up Contra confirmed their ascent after debuting atop the Billboard 200, while the single “Cousins” became their first song to hit the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart. The band’s 2013’s effort Modern Vampires of the City similarly topped the Billboard 200 and garnered the band’s first Grammy Award. 2019’s Father of the Bride became their third album to debut at No. 1, and the album’s high watermark came from lead single “Harmony Hall,” which reached a career-best No. 5 on the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart. The album netted the band its second Grammy, and Vampire Weekend’s 2019 North American tour saw the band perform some of their biggest shows to date, including Madison Square Garden in New York.

When I imagine a perfect Sunday show, I picture Vampire Weekend. The venue wasn't the greatest and the crowd was cold and undeserving, but they still put on a stellar performance!

    Vampire Weekend was amazing!

This was a great event. The band had a certain charisma that kept you from looking away. I would go see them again in a heartbeat.

    Wow.

by andiepan on 2010-03-20MacEwan Hall - Calgary

Vampire Weekend at Mac Hall was an amazing show! This talented group of young men had the crowd screaming and cheering through out the entire show. They played most of their songs from both albums with great fun, enthusiasm and connectivity to the audience. The only song missing was "The Kids Don't Stand a Chance" from their set. The lead singer's falsetto and vocal stylings definitely showcased his singing abilities- it was good vibes all around. One of the best shows I've ever seen! Even the young college men enjoyed crowd-surfing and moshing - I guess they can mosh to anything :) Vampire Weekend - Please come back to Calgary, guys!

    awesome show

by thenameless on 2010-03-19MacEwan Hall - Calgary

it was really interesting with all the different colour lights and the the eyes of the lady in the background of the stage. i like the fact that they did everything more and less on time and when smooth, and the fact that even though we were in mEwan hall they sound was pretty accurate. good show

    Vampire Weekend, Unexpectadly Bumpin'

by cons on 2010-03-18MacEwan Hall - Calgary

Vampire Weekend's music is upbeat, but I was not expecting the rowdiness I experienced at the show! People were jumping around and really getting into it, the vibe in the crowd was more similar to that of a heavier rock band. The group didn't stray much from the albums in that they didn't improvise often or have many little jams. They did play a lot of stuff from the first album which was awesome because the second was not as good as far as many fans are concerned.

Vampire Weekend has a good sound

by hippyluv on 2010-03-16MacEwan Hall - Calgary

The sound was amazing in MacEwan Hall.. I have been to many shows that are just too loud.. But this show was loud in a good way, the sound was sharp, and the event was well organized..

    I like my VW!

by Londonbus on 2010-03-16MacEwan Hall - Calgary

Great show. So much energy on and off the stage. Crowd was into it from the opening to the final whistle. Vampire Weekend were brilliant! Downside: Probably the last time we'll see this band in a small venue...too bad really, this was an awesome show and it would be great to see them continue to play in more intimate and fun surroundings. (I'm not a huge fan of 'Big Mac' Hall either - let's get them in the ballroom!)

I've seen them once before in Pemberton and they have been memorable both times. Played a ton of their hits.

Never in my wildest dreams did I think VW would make it to Calgary or Edmonton. This show was 1.25 hours of fun and amazing sound. Don't miss the opportunity to see VW....if you can get tickets, you have to see this band perform live.

    Great Show Vampire Weekend

    by ConcertFan18 on 2010-03-16MacEwan Hall - Calgary

I was very impressed with the show last night. The band put on a night to remember in a sub par venue. Great mix of songs from both albums and a good mix between up tempo and slow songs gave the night some flow. Please come back again soon!!

Awesome show. I saw them at Pemberton in 2008 and they have definitely grown as a band. Good to see them at a more intimate venue.

    Awesome, awesome, awesome

    by Trigger533 on 2010-03-16MacEwan Hall - Calgary

Wow, what a show. These guys are great on stage. Energetic, involve the crowd, and their sound is spot on. Great set - the energy built to a frenzy, finishing with their classic farewell song, Cape Cod Kawassa. You must see Vampire Weekend at least once in your life. Unbelievable.

    Vampire weekend was good, but...

by aviator89 on 2010-03-16Edmonton Event Centre - Edmonton

The opening band was terrible. Worst I've ever heard. Called "The Blow", she was from New York and at one point in the middle of one song she actually asked her sound tech if she was singing on key or not. It seemed like a joke. I enjoyed Vampire Weekend though, their music isn't exactly my favourite, but I thought they put on a good show.

They played about an hour set, really high energy, got the crowd involved with singing along and dancing. The encore was 3 songs long. It was awesome!!!

This show was excellent, mostly because Vampire Weekend is a great band and play very well live. The opening act was also really good, extremely entertaining. The venue and service were fine, not exceptional. There was still at line up to get in an hour after doors opened.

    Vampire Weekend very good live

by Chadclca on 2010-03-15Edmonton Event Centre - Edmonton

While I'm not a huge fan of the Edmonton Events Centre, (formerly Red's West Edmonton Mall), Vampire Weekend surprised me with how well they could play their fast, fun album music live on stage. These guys are positive, energetic, and tons of fun.

    On the Contra, Watson...

by Dollhouse on 2010-03-15Edmonton Event Centre - Edmonton

There's nothing quite like walking into a sold-out venue for a band that has never before played in your city or town. The room buzzes with anticipation. Sometimes this means that the opening band will bring an erruption from the crowd, and sometimes something completely different happens. The lights were already dimmed, and a petit woman walks onto the stage and up to the mic. One might think that she could have been a roadie. Instead of just checking the mic, she starts singing. Her name is Khaela Maricich of "The Blow". She looks horribly uncomfortable during the first song. Then she begins to relax and regaile the audience with tales of songwriting for a young starlet known for being a bit of a trouble maker and her experimentation with having a girlfriend. By the end of her set, most of the crowd is enjoying her brand of entertainment and begins to get excited for what is to come. The five chandaliers hanging from the cieling give the audience an idea of the kind of show that they're in for.. a conventionally unconventional show. The band hits the stage and starts playing. Few people seem to know the words to the first few songs (including "Holiday"). But the crystal clear sound is enough to enjoy their unique tunes. The only movement to be seen on stage is by bass player Chris and Lead vocalist Ezra, who enjoys the gunshot glance as he sings. The set list progresses into more familiar songs such as "A-Punk" and "Cousins" where the crowd begins to pick up the pace. By the end of the show, the entire audience is more than accomodating to the band's sing-along requests and dancing to their rather distinguished beats. The energy leaving the show was drastically different than it was going in. It's almost as if the band changed the audience by being there. A great experience no doubt.
