VAN HALEN IN CONCERT:

In their rise stardom, the legendary rockers of Van Halen left an indelible mark on hard rock and heavy metal by challenging conventional notions of what was musically possible. From the hot-wired licks of guitarist Eddie Van Halen to the heart-pounding double bass drumming of his brother Alex, their supercharged sound never fails to excite audiences in concert. And with legendary frontman David Lee Roth bringing his charisma back to the fold, the group has recaptured the same energy that made them a must-see spectacle in the first place. Incendiary hits like “Hot for Teacher” and “Ain’t Talking ‘Bout Love” still sit perfectly beside catchy favorites like “Jump” and “Dance the Night Away”, and ticket buyers can’t help but sing along to all the classics every time Van Halen plays on tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Growing up in a musical household, brothers Eddie and Alex Van Halen pushed each other to become instrumental virtuosos by their teens. They started playing with dynamic singer David Lee Roth and bassist Marc Anthony in 1974, settling on the eponymous Van Halen moniker later that year. Their self-titled 1978 debut went on to sell over 10 million copies thanks to Eddie’s game-changing guitar playing, Roth’s flamboyant persona, and their undeniably catchy songs. The band became a veritable hard rock institution with their masterstroke album 1984, which contained the number 1 hit “Jump” and helped them crossover from metal to mainstream. Unfortunately, conflicts between Roth and the rest of the band lead to a falling out, and the frontman was replaced by Sammy Hagar. The new Van Halen lineup scored more hits, while Roth concurrently enjoyed a successful solo career. Eventually Hagar split with the group as well, and they briefly hired former Extreme frontman Gary Cherone before announcing a hiatus in 1999. The band reunited with Hagar in 2003 for a reunion tour, but tensions in the band resulted in him leaving again. Tempers between David Lee Roth and the band had cooled by that point, and he rejoined Van Halen in 2006, while Eddie’s son Wolfgang took over on bass. Their fresh lineup still inspires the same pandemonium from their early days, while their 2012 album A Different Kind of Truth (their first record with Roth since 1984) continues to excite fans around the world.

Awesome show Van Halen was incredible.Stood center stage against the barrier 10 feet from stage.VIP after sound check only meant we were able to get the choice spot .Would of thought with VIP cost would of had separate viewing area. Also thought poster should of been signed by Van Halen.Otherwise it was a Incredible show .

    van halen

by paintpig on 2015-08-09Western Fair District - London

Van Halen played a good show and so did the backup band, only disappointment was paying $ 50 for a VIP upgrade. I couldn't see the band from the VIP area so I had to go to general admission area.

    van halen was forgettable!

by handlebars on 2015-08-08Western Fair District - London

david lee roths vocals are gone! guitars and drums were right on, but the vocals really made it bad! also, the general admission vip which we paid $50 extra per ticket for was a joke! you could only see eddie van halen and david lee roth! could not see the drum kit or the bass player at all! in my opinion, the western fair district has a lot of work to do, and as far as van halen, i would be surprised if the tour makes it till the end!

    Van Halen was aweful!!

by Katelin123 on 2015-08-08Western Fair District - London

It was one of the worst concerts I have been to, and I have been to many. the western fair is not a good place to see a concert either. JLC is looking much more favourable after this experience. We should be refunded if not happy with our use of 105.00.

    all but one was brutal

by Markfromlondon on 2015-08-08Western Fair District - London

The band played too many new songs and not enough of the old ones. If they were just starting out now they wouldn't cut it with the new stuff. Eddie was amazing on guitar as usual the rest fell short. Maybe I am being too hard on the son whatever his name is. He wasn't bad. I would say I was very disappointed. To top it off it was freaking cold out for the beginning of August. I wouldn't go see them again. The end.

    3 out of 4 doesn't cut it.

by DumpDLR on 2015-08-08Western Fair District - London

I only gave this 3 stars because Van Halen was missing a vocalist. Had they had somebody who could hold a note, sing in tune once in a while and would refrain from inane babbling I would have given the show 5 stars. Kenny Wayne Sheppard band was nothing short of brilliant and a great opening act. He was born to play guitar. And 3 of the 4 VH guys played their hearts out and made the show almost tolerable. Almost. Dump DLR, there's got to be a VH tribute band out there somewhere with Rockstar like vocalist waiting for his big break. DLR is dragging this great band down and it's, sadly, why I can't recommend this show to anyone.

Very sad that I spent $200 on Van Halen. You could tell the guys don't even like each other they did not interact on stage. The show was very disappointing.

    The Mighty VH kicked ass!!!

by cflynn007 on 2015-08-06Darling's Waterfront Pavilion - Bangor

Best I've ever heard the Roth-fronted Van Halen sound. Is DLR pitch perfect?---No. But he's not 25 anymore either--he's 60. And he was never a guy that was noted as a great singer even in the 78-84 era of VH-- He was a great performer with swaggar--and still is. Wolfie has become a helluva bass player and his backing vocals (when paired with his dad's) make me miss Michael Anthony a lot less. Alex was rock solid as usual--his solo was incredible--he played to a backing track that started out as a Spanish salsa piece that morphed into a sci-fi soundtrack type track--the middle section was absolutely thunderous. Eddie--what can I say that hasn't already been said? He is the KING--just wish he'd write some more signature instrumental pieces (like Eruption, Spanish Fly, intro to Mean Streat, Cathedral, etc...) that being said--he was awesome to watch and see. The band seemed to be genuinely enjoying playing together. It was great to hear the band play some of the deep album cuts like Drop Dead Legs, Light Up The Sky, Dirty Movies, Simple Rhyme. as well as a couple from the most recent album. It's very easy for a lot of these bands who have been around for 30-40 years to play it safe and play the same old tired radio hits-based setlist every tour (KISS). I drove 10 hours from northern Nova Scotia Canada to see this show---I'd do it again in a heartbeat!!

    Van Halen was impressive

by Bruski on 2015-08-02Darling's Waterfront Pavilion - Bangor

Waterfront pavilion is a great venue for a show like this. With very helpful and kind staff they helped enhance the experience. Van Halen exceeded my expectations with a very entertaining show and David's voice was perfectly on key although not as strong as in the past, Eddie also did very good with his guitar style and great backup vocals Very impressed! The crowd response was as lively as the show it's self, and I believe this helped the band let it out to give us a great performance. Eddie's 10 min guitar solo started off slow but evolved into what we expected of him, the crowd went nuts!.

    Could've Been So Much Better

by LonDog on 2015-08-02Darling's Waterfront Pavilion - Bangor

The Band Played Well, Audio Quality Was Fine, Set Length Average, Song Selection Adequate & Altho David's Voice Was Somewhat Lacking, It Was Passible. My Disapointment Was With The Concert Visuals. ...There Were No Big Video Screens Whatsoever! Being My First Event At This Site, I'm Not Sure If That Responsibility Lies With The Facility, Or Band (i suspect the latter), But Having Paid $130 A Ticket, (ahead of the VIP section) And Still Not Being Close Enough Without Visual Enlargement, I Can Only Imagine How The Less Expensive Seats Enjoyed The View.

Van Halen 2015 is not to be missed!

by Parrot on 2015-08-02Darling's Waterfront Pavilion - Bangor

First off, there has been some negativity around this tour be it intentions...Dave's voice...ticket prices, etc. I have seen Van Halen four times in my life. Once with Hagar back in the early 90's and three times since reuniting with Dave and this easily was one of the best if not the best show. The band is amazingly tight and Dave is a front man like no other! They also seem to be having a lot of fun on stage, are animated and just delivering song after song! I think the outdoor show adds a certain power to the proceedings! The heat, humidity, the drinks, that music. Do not let you tube videos and words of others keep you from seeing this show! The vids will never do it justice...these guys are a freight train! Just awesome!

    VAN HALEN - was average

    by concertg0er on 2015-02-26Rogers Arena - Vancouver

Eddie Van Halen, was outstanding, did a guitar solo that knocked everyone's socks off. Unfortunately David Lee Roth....spoke much of the songs, not sang them....disappointing for sure. Eddie on the other hand was great!

Spend your money on someone else.

by Darmonic on 2014-11-04Van Halen 2012 - Edmonton, AB

David Lee Roth was the lead singer and I was very disappointed in the show in Edmonton. The tickets were expensive and I wouldn't pay to see Van Halen with David Lee Roth singing again. Eddie and the other members played great, but couldn't keep from a disappointing show.

    JUMP OUTTA HERE RIGHT NOW

    by POPEYEPILON13 on 2013-02-07MTS CENTRE - WINNIPEG

Jump alright. Out of my seat and back home. DLR sucked the Big One although the rest of he band were excellent. Wolfie , while not Michael Anthony, did tremendously well , especially on background vocals. He is actually, at age 21, quite an accomplished bass player. Alex showed why he is still revered as one of the best drummers in rock music. And Eddie, well he's Eddie Van Halen. Not much more needs to be said about him. Still the best guitarist out there today as he was totally amazing and worth the cost of admission alone. Overall , David Lee Roth was absolutely horrible as he was often out of sync with the band and needed every bit of help on vocals that was inhumanly possible. He is strictly a mess. But the band, minus of course Roth, could do no wrong and were excellent.

by brionbrioff on 2012-10-29Vanhalen - Calgary

david lee roth forgot most lyrics, didnt sing loud enough, squeeled and squeeked incoherant mumblings when the crowd was trying to sing along with him. he didnt even sing "Panama" right,,, only vocals you could make out all night was Eddie and Wolfgangs back up vocals. only thing worth seeing was Eddie on guitar,
