VAN HALEN IN CONCERT:

In their rise stardom, the legendary rockers of Van Halen left an indelible mark on hard rock and heavy metal by challenging conventional notions of what was musically possible. From the hot-wired licks of guitarist Eddie Van Halen to the heart-pounding double bass drumming of his brother Alex, their supercharged sound never fails to excite audiences in concert. And with legendary frontman David Lee Roth bringing his charisma back to the fold, the group has recaptured the same energy that made them a must-see spectacle in the first place. Incendiary hits like “Hot for Teacher” and “Ain’t Talking ‘Bout Love” still sit perfectly beside catchy favorites like “Jump” and “Dance the Night Away”, and ticket buyers can’t help but sing along to all the classics every time Van Halen plays on tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Growing up in a musical household, brothers Eddie and Alex Van Halen pushed each other to become instrumental virtuosos by their teens. They started playing with dynamic singer David Lee Roth and bassist Marc Anthony in 1974, settling on the eponymous Van Halen moniker later that year. Their self-titled 1978 debut went on to sell over 10 million copies thanks to Eddie’s game-changing guitar playing, Roth’s flamboyant persona, and their undeniably catchy songs. The band became a veritable hard rock institution with their masterstroke album 1984, which contained the number 1 hit “Jump” and helped them crossover from metal to mainstream. Unfortunately, conflicts between Roth and the rest of the band lead to a falling out, and the frontman was replaced by Sammy Hagar. The new Van Halen lineup scored more hits, while Roth concurrently enjoyed a successful solo career. Eventually Hagar split with the group as well, and they briefly hired former Extreme frontman Gary Cherone before announcing a hiatus in 1999. The band reunited with Hagar in 2003 for a reunion tour, but tensions in the band resulted in him leaving again. Tempers between David Lee Roth and the band had cooled by that point, and he rejoined Van Halen in 2006, while Eddie’s son Wolfgang took over on bass. Their fresh lineup still inspires the same pandemonium from their early days, while their 2012 album A Different Kind of Truth (their first record with Roth since 1984) continues to excite fans around the world.

Van Halen sucked,no stage decor,Vocals crap

by Anonymous on 2012-07-29MTS Centre - Winnipeg

Van Halen sucked,no stage decor,Vocals crap, couldn't hear David lee Roth vocals for first half of concert.Van Halen had a black stage no light show, boring 1/2 of concert. Cool & the Gang the opening band was totally awesome, good show clear vocals, instruments, lots of action, crowd pleaser, stage looked great. just never will recommend any one to Van Halen Ever!!!!! Plus the security was a pain too,if you went out the norht door of MTS center they would not let you in the South door, you had to walk all the way around 4 blocks to get in,during intermission.my ticket would't scan, they never use bracelets, totally a rip off considering the pricew of tickets.

    If it weren't for David!

by SOOOOOOODisappointed on 2012-07-09New Orleans Arena - New Orleans

this would have been amazing. I can't believe that even he could come off as conceited and uncaring as he did. The rest of the band looked and played great! Cool and the Gang was totally fun.

    Van Halen

by AltabuckHunter on 2012-06-29New Orleans Arena - New Orleans

The concert was pretty good. Great to see Eddie jammin out the riffs we all heard growing up. Eddie was up to fine form, nailing those signature guitar solos. David Lee was at times amazing, but others not so much. He seemed to forget the words at times & couldn't quite hit the high notes like the old days. But hey, the years have taken a toll on all of us. Overall a fun night.

Show was good but not great.

    by runner1 on 2012-06-25Rogers Arena - Vancouver

Eddie Van Halen was definitely the star of the show. His guitar playing was as great as ever. David Lee Roth's voice is past its prime and was only okay.

    A Blast into the past

by Oldernotdead on 2012-06-24MTS Centre - Winnipeg

The concert was the first time I have seen them since 1984. But it was good to see they sound as good as ever. David's voice and Eddie's Guitar playing were both in top form that night. Each song, new or old, was better than the one before.

    Van Halen was Awful

    by FunnyGirl2 on 2012-06-21Rogers Arena - Vancouver

These guys are just not the same. You can tell there a problems with the band as they just didn't click on stage. David forgot lyrics, and just kinda walked around mumbling? The arena itself was hot, the air ventilation was out, so it was smoky and stinky. Just wasn't a good evening.

    Van Halen still rocks

by Fergiegirl on 2012-06-20Rogers Arena - Vancouver

I always seem to have to travel five hundred or more miles to see great performances and true rock and roll legends. Well I sure wasn't disappointed when Van Hallen rolled out their show. So much energy and so much talent. Just loved it.

ILOVE VAN HALEN and enjoyed the show except the sound was horrible. You could barely hear david lee roth and sometimes you couldn't even tell what song they were playing. A total bummer, but still glad I went because hey it's Van Halen!

    Van in Vancouver!

by Colossus on 2012-06-19Rogers Arena - Vancouver

It was my 1st time seeing Van Halen but been a fan for so many years (will admit I like the Hagar era just as much as the Roth era). Missed the show when they were here 3or4 years ago, and wasn't gonna miss the chance to see the legendary band this time around. Was amazed by the huge projection screen in the back, the band was awesome! Wolfgang has really come along on the bass, and Eddie looked great and still has the magic fingers pulling the solos that only Eddie can. Sadly Roth did stumble on some lyrics in 2 of the songs, and his voice seemed a little raspier then usual so on that note it did affect the experience of the concert. But he did make up for it with his usual showmanship and enthusiasm that u expect from "Diamond Dave." Overall, a very fun show and so happy I finally got to say I saw VAN HALEN!

    Van Halen

by Bfitt on 2012-06-19MTS Centre - Winnipeg

The music was to loud for the vocals which took away from the the concert itself. It would of been nice to see Eddie actually move around the stage rather then stand in the same spot for the entire concert less his solo which was fantastic.Would of liked to of heard more older music rather than the new album the band itself was excellent David Lee Roth has never been good live and he did not dissapoint but i would rather see him than Sammie any day.Had $165 dollar tickets which was way to much by the cheaper ones and you will enjoy it more. All in All not bad but not great

    Van Halen did not rock

by Littlebirch on 2012-06-17MTS Centre - Winnipeg

Terrible concert....not surprised they pulled the pin shortly after. David LR's voice was in better shape than I imagined but he talk-singed his way through songs so they were virtually unrecognizable!!! He was more concerned with his high kicks rather than singing the melody. The Van Halens were in okay form, but chose to sing way too many new songs without singing some big hits like Janie's Cryin, etc.

    Time to retire Dave...

by Anonymous on 2012-06-17Rogers Arena - Vancouver

I have been a Van Halen fan for years and when I saw them play here a few years back it was amazing. This time not so much...David Lee Roth's voice is completely gone...Save your money. Youtube has all the proof you need for this tour.

Van Halen needs better sound man!!

by PepperKornKitty on 2012-06-16Rogers Arena - Vancouver

Roth's vocals, I thought, were buried in the mix, at times. Roger's arena is too big to achieve great sound mix, too 'echoey'!! Noticed Alex (drummer) repeatedly pointing finger downward at soundman, to turn volume/mix down! He appeared frustrated! Van Halen was good, really good, but not phenomenal.

Van Halen..... Awesome then, and now!!

by synergyga on 2012-06-14Rogers Arena - Vancouver

Great to see Eddie back on top where he should be. Good to see Dave gettin along again and still in great form given his years. Alex still has it and Wolfie deffinetly follows in his Dad's tracks. Over all an uber good night , well worth the money....these guys put the young wanna be's to shame.

    Great time @ Vh

by Coily on 2012-06-14Rogers Arena - Vancouver

Great show, loud, fun songs, the way VH is!!! The band was great, DLR was fun more laid back now. It's what VH 2012 is all about. They were appreciative of the fans.

It was worse than losing Game 7!!

by Skiiks on 2012-06-13Rogers Arena - Vancouver

VH boys were great! DLR a disappointment!!! Fans should be compensated somehow after DLR 's lack of performance. I bought 2 tickets at $360. The show wasn't worth it. I wish the tour would have cancelled before it came to Vancouver. I have seen DLR once solo and this is my 3rd time for VH. Always with Diamond Dave as the singer. He was always great to see live! At the reunion tour he was great! This time he was absolutely dreadful!!! I don't mind paying if the whole band showed up!!!!

    DLR Terrible!

    by Pikaxe72 on 2012-06-13Rogers Arena - Vancouver

Eddie was terrific! Dave should go back to paramedic work. He spoke 70% of the lyrics. He also forgot the lyrics to 2 songs.
