Vancouver Canucks History

The Vancouver Canucks started play in 1970, entering the league along with the Buffalo Sabres. Vancouver has been to the Stanley Cup Final on three occasions, though they lost to the New York Islanders in 1982, the New York Rangers in 1994 and the Boston Bruins in 2011.

Despite humble beginnings, the Canucks continued to develop. With the arrival of three key players — Captain Trevor Linden, netminder Kirk McLean, and "the Russian Rocket" Pavel Bure, the Canucks had a winning Playoff run season — making it to the 1994 finals.

The Canucks continued to acquire superstars like Alexander Mogilny and Markus Näslund, and while the following years meant a series of losses, it allowed for the team to draft Henrik and Daniel Sedin, who would go on to lead the Canucks to Presidents' Trophies in back-to-back seasons in 2010-11 and 2011-12, as well as their finals appearance in 2011.

Vancouver Canucks at Rogers Arena

The Vancouver Canucks play their home games at the 475,000-square foot Rogers Arena, which also played host to the 2010 Winter Olympic Games where Sidney Crosby scored the “Golden Goal.” A staple of downtown Vancouver, the Canucks played their first game at the arena on October 9, 1995. Other notable events that have taken place at the arena include the 1998 NHL All-Star Game, 2019 NHL Entry Draft, and in October 2002 when Queen Elizabeth II dropped the ceremonial first puck during an NHL exhibition game between the Canucks and San Jose Sharks. Additionally, the arena played host to Games 1, 2, 5, and 7 of the 2011 Stanley Cup Finals.

    Chicago Blackhawks vs Vancouver Canucks

by somethingmadeup on 2009-11-23General Motors Place - Vancouver

It was a great hockey game, even though the Canucks lost 1-0. I had no problem picking up my ticket at the "will call", and for that I am very grateful. I just wish the doors would open earlier, so there wouldn't be such a rush at all the food and drink places.

    3rd Period Comeback

by Heavyc on 2009-11-21General Motors Place - Vancouver

This home game for the canucks was sweet to see live. After going down 2-0 in the first ten minutes the home team battled back for the win. In the 3rd period it started as a 2-1 Colorado advantage, only to end a 2-5 Vancouver win. When the go ahead goal was scored the building became electrified. Great fans and a great atmosphere for a hockey game. I had the most nose-bleed seat in the house (row 15 in section 311) and it was still a great seat to see the game.

    AMAZING best game

by jhoo on 2009-11-04General Motors Place - Vancouver

The game was amazing, especially since the Rangers rarely come to Vancouver. Broken glass, fights, and a winning game. Couldnt have asked for anything else

    Canucks vs Rangers

by IM13 on 2009-11-04General Motors Place - Vancouver

The game was played at a high speed and intencity. The canucks, although short on skilled healthy forwards, displayed determination, passion and great attention to details. Ryan Kesler establishig himself as a bonified front line center who is amazing at both ends of the ice. Facing advercity, the team has risen to the chalenge. The credit should also go to the coaches as well as GM Mike Gillis!!! Great Job Boys!!!!!

    Canucks vs Colorado was awesome!

by Mojo49 on 2009-11-02General Motors Place - Vancouver

This game was a birthday celebration for myself that was enjoyed by my husband and 2 teenage sons. The game was exciting. The people sitting around us were so nice. We were visiting from Kelowna so we don't get to do this very often. The only thing that was a little disappointing was the unavailability of getting seats anywhere but on the ends or the upper level. The netting is really irritating to look through but I understand the safety concerns and why its there. Other than that we loved the game and had a great evening!!

My seat was great, I could see every thing from my seat. The only regret I have is my father could not be with me. The personnal service was a wonderfull surprise. Vancouver beat Colorado, what more can you say. Over all it was a great night.

    Canucks Game Oct 27

by somethingmadeup on 2009-10-28General Motors Place - Vancouver

The game was exciting and GM place is a great venue. However, I think the food is way way way overpriced! 2 White Spot Meal Deals cost more than $27.00!!! that is just ridiculous! No wonder most people go over to Costco and have a large Hot Dog & Pop for $2 before going to the event.

    The hockey game was supberb

by gerg on 2009-10-28General Motors Place - Vancouver

Luongo was awsome in net, just waiting for most of the rest of the team to catch up on the action. It seems that a lot of the Canucks sit back and wait for the puck instead of going in and taking their man. Wake up Vancouver and start helping out Luongo. This is not a hit on all the team, just some of them. Kessler was great, Sedin was great, Samulson etc. All in all an amazing game.

    Great, but expensive

by Chaputenator on 2009-10-28General Motors Place - Vancouver

Was awesome because the game was a good one despite the loss. It's a little expensive though because a good game is not guarranteed. I sat in the last row in section 320, great view even for being so far back.

    excellent game last night

by canuck2 on 2009-10-28General Motors Place - Vancouver

The game was one of the best i ever seen the canucks play all year this year. It was back to back action through out the game. Luongo stole the game the way he played yes he let in a few bad goals but he was great in net. To bad they lost

    An unforgettable game!

by mumeep on 2009-10-27General Motors Place - Vancouver

We went as a family to see the Canucks vs the Oilers. The game was great! We were able to witness Luongo's first shut out of the season, and watch the rest of the team come alive. It was magical for the kids, who are the biggest fans of all. Just being with them at the game was great!
