We had a wonderful time, it was so exciting because we did'nt know what would happen in the next minute. But the end was perfect: The Giants won!

Junior Hockey is so entertaining, this kids put so much effort into the game. Tickets are so cheap compared to the entertainment you receive. Great Value.

    Our First Hockey Game

    by Fiona6 on 2009-09-30Pacific Coliseum - Vancouver

On Friday 25th September we made our way from downtown Vancouver on the number 4 bus to Eton/Robson which is just a one minute walk from the Pacific Coliseum on 100 North Renfrew Street which is the home of the Vancouver Giants. We arrived about an hour early for the 7.30pm face off. We were very eager and not sure how long it would take to get there so we ended up being quite early. It would probably be time enough to arrive 15-30mins before the start time. We had to collect our tickets from will call (box office at the venue) and then we stood outside the stadium in queues for a few minutes before the doors opened and we were allowed inside. Inside were concession stands where fans can buy hot food, snacks and drinks. There’s also a merchandise shop where I bought a hat and my boyfriend bought his first Ice Hockey Jersey! We got some refreshments and made our way to our seats, just 2 rows from the ice! So close! There weren’t alot of other people there when we took our seats but by the time the warm up started the place was almost full – over 6000 attended the match altogther. We had never been to an ice hockey match before so we didnt know how it worked...There are 3 slots of 20 minutes of play and in between each of these there’s 18 minutes of an interval. Also when theres a stoppage during play the clock stopped which means it goes on for longer than the 96 minutes. The match we went to started at 7.30 and finished at about 9.45 so it is long but we didnt feel like it was very long at the time. During the 18 minute intervals theres some entertainment on the ice as well as around the stadium with the team mascot. There’s music playing over the speakers as well as ads and pictures of the spectators on the big screen. Also you can go for more refreshments if you feel that way inclined. At the beginning I noticed that there were 4 referee’s or officials on the ice. I thought that this was a lot but found a few times during the game that this was necessary and that maybe they could do with a few more. There were a few fights during the game which was rough at times and one of those fights involved all of the members of each team that was on the ice, thats 10 players! There are 5 members of each team plus a goalie on the ice at any one time but these five players are changing constantly between the 5 on the ice and the other players that were waiting by on the bench. We were sitting right beside the Giants penalty box and there were at least 5 different members of the team in this box at different times throughout the match for varying offences. We really enjoyed our first experience of ice hockey and will definitely be back for more! It’s a little confusing for a newcomer but hopefully after a few more matches I’ll get the hang of it.

    Giants v Cougars

by Joolea on 2009-09-27Pacific Coliseum - Vancouver

The game was brilliant! The Giants this year are quite a talented bunch of men and you could tell that they were playing a great game. We sat right up by the ice, close enough to get awesome photos of the guys in the penalty box and right in front of some die-hard Giants girls who were screaming to get photos of the men as they skated passed. We went as a birthday party for an 8 year old, and we managed to get his name up on the jumbo-tron and get his photo with Jack the Giant! Overall, a very enjoyable event!

Great Playing Then Out of Steam !

by Cams on 2009-09-24Pacific Coliseum - Vancouver

First and second periods were great with excellent passing. Giants of old. - The game fell apart in the third. Huge offensive noise from the trashy, crappy music before the game starts. My 16 year old and his 18 year old friend agreed.. Sightlines good, energy from mascot and cheerleaders was great. From parking, entry, the game, to having a beer I enjoyed the evening.

    Cheer the stars for tomorrow.

by Mikachan on 2009-09-21Pacific Coliseum - Vancouver

It was so much fun to watch those prospective young players(16~20years old) fought for goals seriously. I sat at such a nice seat where I could observe all the next star players crearly and the price was not so expensive. I recomend you to buy those kind of ticket next time.

    Giants comeback!

by Kemlo on 2009-09-21Pacific Coliseum - Vancouver

Following a defeat on their home opener the Giants showed character to come back from a two goal deficit to win with four goals to two. A disappointing first period was followed by an amazing second as the Giants won their first home game of the season in what was overall an exciting match.

Great value for the entire family

by Makdaddy on 2009-09-21Pacific Coliseum - Vancouver

It was the season opener for the Vancouver Giants and my son's first time at a hockey game. The CKNW promotion was great value for the family of 4 and we took advantage of the Playland pass, $10 merchandise voucher and Whitespot dinner. Our seats were also in section L, where it was alcohol free and it was very nice to see this policy being enforced by the Coliseum staff. We had a great time and will like to go again.

    giant's opening game

by dollymomma on 2009-09-20Pacific Coliseum - Vancouver

We had a great time at the game, the kids loved watching the play, as well as the intermission fun stuff. Our only problem was we caught one shirt, and twin boys both wanted it. Aside from the giants losing, we had fun!
