VSO's The Four Seasons was amazing!

by MikeT on 2013-12-24Chan Centre For The Performing Arts - Vancouver

Vivaldi's Four Seasons has always been one of my old time favourite classical music. I was about 19 years old when I bought this album in a cassette! My dream to experience this music live and by a virtuoso violinist (Rachael) came true. I'm trilled to have it experienced and see so many talented musicians deliver such a wonderful performance. Thank you VSO.

    Amazing clarinetist

by jazzytap on 2013-02-25Chan Centre For The Performing Arts - Vancouver

I had played the Mozart clarinet concerto when I was at university and had my grandson (age 12) try it out before the concert so I took him to hear it at this concert and we were both very impressed by Jeanette Jonquil's interpretation of the concerto. She had such control, musicality and feeling in her playing. She deserved the prolonged standing ovation that she received. Beethoven's 5th Symphony is always inspiring and the VSO did a good performance of it. All who attended thoroughly enjoyed the evening.

    Was worth the parking lineups!

by klaw on 2013-02-24Chan Centre For The Performing Arts - Vancouver

The clarinetist, Jeanette Jonquil, was so spectacular perfoming Mozart that I casually mentioned to my spouse that I had been so fulfilled we could go home. However, what a mistake that would have been as the VSO equalled her performance with Beethoven's Symphony No. 5. I was also very impressed with Elgar's Sospiri which started the evening. I have always enjoyed the VSO but I cannot recall leaving an event quite as moved as I was Friday night. I will always treasure that evening.

    Vibrant presentation

by Elanel on 2013-02-24Chan Centre For The Performing Arts - Vancouver

The orchestra was up to snuff in its presentation of Beethoven's 5th and Mozart's Clarinet Concerto in A major with Jeanette Jonquil playing the licorice stick in a very versatile and lovely manner. A nice introduction to the evening was Elgar's mellow but melancholic piece, Sospiri. The highlight was Beethoven's 5th Symphony played with much verve and enthusiasm by the orchestra, leading from the dark and ominous opening to the melodic and enlightening, even joyous, following pieces. I found myself smiling at those moments with a lightheartedness stirring me to joyfulness. A wonderful evening made more so by the fact that this was a gift from my daughter and her family for my 75th birthday!

    Brilliant

by LeoGan on 2012-12-24Chan Centre For The Performing Arts - Vancouver

The masterpieces are amazing. The performance was magical. The Chan Center has a unique acoustic and VSO Concertmaster Dale Barltrop used it in full scale.

They say you can never replicate true music in digital format and after seeing this performance I agree. Wonderfully charisatic performance from the conductor and stunning music flowing from the orchestra. Would definitely return for more.

VSO: Special Concert - Vivaldi, The Four Seasons

by Stainless06 on 2011-12-19Chan Centre For The Performing Arts - Vancouver

Quite possibly the best concert I've ever attended. Thanks primarily to Henning Kraggerud, but also the VSO and, of course, Vivaldi. The Friday night performance was so outstanding, I had to return on Saturday for an equally amazing experience. Well done to all !

Amazing Evening with The Four Seasons

by DUCKDUCK on 2011-12-18Chan Centre For The Performing Arts - Vancouver

This is the 1st time I listen orchestra in live. Because The Four Seasons, I brought the tickets. Although I was sitting on the top last row, but the sound still clear, clean and sharp. Henning Kraggerud had a great performance. The great part was he took some time to read the poem before the performance, that make us has more fantasize while we were listing.

    Too Short

by NoTimpressed1234 on 2011-12-12Chan center for performing arts - Vancouver

I love attending all types of theatre. This was going to be my first live Orchestra ive attended other than my brothers shows in highschool 10 years ago. The Show was too short The lights were too bright The stage was poorly decorted Just seemed like they showed up in black clothing with thier instruments and set up some chairs and performed.. I regret paying 70 per person to take my mom here for her birthday.
