It was great to see how stage comes alive in this storey.

by Sadiedog on 2014-02-12Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverExcellent, great, don't need any more "grittiness", we always take our grandchildren to hopefully develop an interest in live theatre, for the next generation. Also , started by "Mamma Mia", knowing that the final scene is so sad, most people are there for the music & the dance, so after the bows, we would have loved a lively dance repeat!
Rating: 4 out of 5 West Side Story
by cheesygrin on 2014-02-12Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverStarted a little lukewarm but as the performers warmed up, so did the quality of the performance. From the end of the first act and throughout the final act the performers were fully immersed into theirs characters and the story.
Rating: 3 out of 5 Westside Story - was OK
by runningbeancounter on 2014-02-12Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverMost of the performance was very good. The fellow that played Tony was out of time with the orchestra a lot of the time

Rating: 2 out of 5 singers very good but play needs updating
by Spamola on 2014-02-11Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverI found the show long and a little outdated. Was a bit boring and I thought it was odd that there was a break it seemed 3/4's of the way through the show, then the show ended. The sound engineering was a little off ie: the singing was not in sync with the music at times and the music was not balanced with the voices in volume. I noticed some people left at the break (there were many empy seats in front of us after the break)
Rating: 4 out of 5 West Side Story -Enraptured
by Helen on 2014-02-11Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverConfessing that WSS is my all-time favourite musical. This presentation lived up to my expectations. It was gritty and the use of Spanish and some mild vulgarity only added to the production. Loved it. Some (small) criticisms, I did not enjoy the costuming. Anita's singing was most times not clear.
Rating: 4 out of 5 Pleasantly surprised!
by NIckNack on 2014-02-11Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverMy husband and I bought my Mom tickets for Christmas to see Westside story. After I had bought the tickets I started to look for reviews on the play. Little did I know that there are a couple of different performances out there to see on the same play. The reviews on the Westside Story, that I had bought the tickets for, weren't very positive. We went into the play nervous that we wasted our money. To our delight, we enjoyed the play a lot and would recommend it. I now won't always take the negative reviews into consideration when deciding on a play to go see. The only negative, that I can say, is that we couldn't understand the actress who played the character Rita when she sung. The actor and actress who played Tony and Maria were fantastic.
Rating: 5 out of 5 A wonderful Christmas Present.
by house on 2014-02-11Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverReceived the tickets as a Christmas gift, it was an enjoyable evening out with my sweetheart. I played in the orchestra in the early 1980's when our school performed "West Side Story". It was wonderful to sit and hear one of my favorite musicals.
Rating: 5 out of 5 West Side Story was fabulous!
by khazle on 2014-02-11Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverThe play brought back so many memories! In the 60's when the movie was released I lined up outside the Stanley Theatre in Vancouver with my mother to see the best movie ever. The play was every bit as good. The singing and the dancing were fabulous. I would recommend the play.

by Madsky on 2014-02-10Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverFlat singing from start until finish. The family in front of us left at intermission. I wished I were with them as the second half didn't improve.
Rating: 4 out of 5 West Side Story was Entertaining
by runner1 on 2014-02-09Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverThe singing was impressive, especially by the lead actress and actor, and the choreography was well done which made an entertaining evening. There was a good mix of comedy and drama. Show started on time at 8 pm and Act 1 ended at 9:30 pm for a 20-minute intermission. Show ended at 10:30 pm.
Rating: 5 out of 5 Fabulous evening
by Anonymous on 2014-02-09Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverI had not seen the show or movie before so was not sure what to expect, especially as some of the reviews were not great but I loved every minute! The dancing was amazing and the lead voices were all excellent, I also liked the interaction between Tony and Maria, they were very good together and their voices were superb. I would highly recommend this show.
Rating: 4 out of 5 Great music. Good execution
by GerryG on 2014-02-09Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverThis is a memorable experience -- the music rang in my ears for days.
Rating: 2 out of 5 Disappointing voices
by openvision on 2014-02-09Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverPerhaps the expectation was too high, somehow neither the male nor the female leads have the voice to perform the way the music was intended. The "Tony" part was particularly lacking. The dancing was weak. All in all a lamentable evening.
Rating: 2 out of 5 West Side Sorry
by MBurt01 on 2014-02-08Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverThe cast members of this show worked so hard and so did the great orchestra so I feel bad for giving this such a poor review because it's not really their fault. The main trouble was the sound. We've been to plays staged at the Queen E Theatre many times but this time around, the dialogue was almost impossible to make out. I would say we missed 40 per cent of everything that was said or sung because of an echo and a muddy sound quality. In fact, there was a song in the first act called "America" sung by most of the female cast and few people in the audience could make out what was said. There was great dancing, and the staging was fabulous, but who knows what clever lines these actresses were singing. We'll never know. And we were not in the back in the nosebleed seats, either. My wife and I were in the middle of row eight, having paid around $250 (total) for our seats. Things did improve slightly in the second act when the guys got their turn to sing about being hoodlums. By this time, the sound was a little better so we could make out what they were singing and laugh at the appropriate times. Who knows it it's the acoustics at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre, the touring company's sound operator, the microphone system, or what--but it left us with a dulled experience. I suspect the rest of the audience felt that way, too, because many spots that were supposed to be funny fell flat, and overall the audience was rather unresponsive. I suspect it was the same for everyone--we couldn't hear clearly what was going on so we didn't feel engaged. Which is a shame, really, because I'm certain there was a lot of talent on stage.

Rating: 4 out of 5 We all know the story...
by 123SuzyQ on 2014-02-08Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverWes Side Story is a musical I never bothered with because the excitement of not knowing what was going to happen just wasn't there...BUT the dancing was amazing and these touring company singers were as good as any I have seen on Broadway. That said it was a 'glad I have seen it' not a 'wish it would never end' situation.
