My parents have taken me since I was 4 months old. I now have my own children and the tradition continues. We look forward to it every year and although the music is amazing, it is about so much more. Community, nature, tradition, sustainability and all around goodness.
Folk Fest 2014 was awesome yet again! Despite the rain on Sunday, the festival was still amazing. So many highlights - from The Strumbellas, to The Sheep Dogs, Ben Harper, and the list goes on! Great Job again Winnipeg Folk Fest!
Good, but not terrific. I just didn't get the right stages for awesome artist interaction:(
Great diversity of acts and plenty to see. Can't make it all so you have to make some executive decisions. There is music and activities for all tastes.
Folk Fest was amazing as always but bring back the Castle Boys!
Holding the Folk Fest in Birds Hill Park is such a wonderful idea. You are out of town and in nature with all this wonderful music and food. I would recommend this festival for anyone. This is my 3rd year but I know many people who have gone many many years.
where else can you hang out with the likes of joan baez, and sarah lee guthrie, in the circle of 45,000 of your closest friends?! while thursday night's line-up was poorly thought out, and we had record cold temps for the final day (15.7C as a high) and plenty of rain throughout, the music, the workshops, the friendly volunteers, and the fellow folkies were enough to keep spirits warm. already counting down to next year!
Love folk fest every year and this year was no exception. The additional stages in the Forrest we finally used as we came with our baby & those venues are a day saver. Great performances with great artists & as always the food is a treat!! Already looking forward to next year ;)
We had a great night! No bugs and the food an beer area has been built up and easier too access! Also enjoyed two stages instead of just one main stage at night!
Had so much fun! The grounds are amazing, as are all of the volunteers!
Concerts were unreal, the festival was unforgettable and the people are magical!
This year's festival didn't impress me as much as past festivals. I felt that the range of musical talent wasn't as wide as past years. Both me and my husband were left with the feeling that next year we might give the WFF a miss and try another festival somewhere else.
Saw a few awesome acts like Bonnie Raitt and Ben Harper, but most of the festival was musically flat for me. Been a 20 year WFF folkie, but this year I didn't find the unknown artist or group that made me run to the Music Tent for their CD. The weather was a real challenge so we didn't return on Sunday and we always go for the gospel hour on Sunday morning. First time I have not attended the entire festival. Hate to sound so negative, but we will be back next year.
Great event as per usual!! Love the diversity and of course the venue is amazing. Loved the healthy good food! Well organized! Some better planning for rain would be good e.g. sheets of wood in the music tent to walk on instead of mud and tearing up the earth would be great! More tents set up for eating places and just getting out of the rain and/or sun would be super great. Overall amazing :)
Our day at the Wpg. Folk Festival was GREAT! Beautiful weather, great music, and good times at the Folk Fest. Highlights of the day were Buffy Saint Marie and Corb Lund.
Folk Fest never disappoints! Between the high-caliber talent, the amazing food and merchants and the general positive energy emitted by the friendliest crowd of people you'll ever meet, Folk Fest is an event that anyone will enjoy.
Great venue and the volunteer staff were very helpful. I will be going back next year.
One of the best concert experiences I have ever had! I was already a fan of the Bros Landreth, so was excited to see them perform at the Folk Festival. They incited a feeling of pride. These extremely talented young musicians are from Manitoba!!!! Love their music. Also enjoyed Guy Forsyth, Amy Helm and Sarah Lee Guthrie. Bonnie Raitt was enthralling. So relaxed, professional and classy. Her band was great. I thoroughly enjoyed the solo by Mike Finnigan. I realize that I love R & B and Funk. Glad that this type of music is available at the Folk Festival. My only complaint is that people started to pack up and leave during the show. I was embarrassed and felt bad for the performers. Bonnie Raitt even made a comment (in a nice way) about this.
Local group the bros landreth were great, very cool having their dad on stage with them. The guitarist with Amy helm was a real treat and of course Bonnie Raitt showed why she is the best female guitarist/ singer Ever!
Good food, great company, awesome fun and interesting music.
