    What a night!

by dakfo on 2010-03-28Centennial Concert Hall - Winnipeg

Our WSO is really something all Winnipegger's should be proud of and support financially. We need to keep investing in our arts so that shows like this one can continue to amaze us for years to come. It was a packed house for Saturday's show and I can understand why. Jeff Tyzik , the guest conductor , is incredible. He is so personable , charismatic and very entertaining. He gave us an insight on each piece by combining humor and fact. Who knew the symphony could be so educational! He also couldn't say enough about our talented musicians and neither could I , the solos were impressive.

    Wouldn't recommend

by fortunesfavour on 2010-03-02Centennial Concert Hall - Winnipeg

This show should have been called Jeans 'n Classics band: The Music of Queen (with the WSO Pops). Couldn't hear the ochestra for most of the songs. Lead singer and backup singers were corny and cheesy. Not what I was expecting at all. Saw several people leave before the end of the show. Only stayed in hopes of getting my monies worth.

    wso queen

by gunny on 2010-03-01Centennial Concert Hall - Winnipeg

The lead singer was a tad cheesy and his voice was absolutely nothing like that of Freddy Mercury. His voice also couldn't handle a lot of ranges and sounded like he was straining. The sound wasn't great...he was often hard to hear. The second half was immensely more enjoybable once the choir was added.

    Music of Queen

by Twitchy on 2010-03-01Centennial Concert Hall - Winnipeg

The WSO were terrific, the Zane Zalis choir was wonderful, the band very good but the sound mix was absolutely AWFUL! This was a rock show, not an event to be staged in one of the dozen of senior homes that attended. The lead singer's mic mix was terrible and the lead guitar player's volume a joke. I can play Queen louder in my car with a standard sound system. This afternoon show was geared to not offend the near-dead in the audience, many who left at intermission. Refund please!

    The Nylons rocked!

by Marice on 2010-01-18Centennial Concert Hall - Winnipeg

Altrhough we thoroughly enjoyed the performance, definitely enjoyed the portions of the program of the Nylons performing Acapella, as opposed to with the WSO. Both groups were excellent in their own right, however wopuld have enjoyed the Nylons on their own. The concept of putting it together was interesting but not as enjoyable as hoped.

    John McDermott was amazing!

by Anonymous on 2009-12-14Centennial Concert Hall - Winnipeg

This was my first time seeing John McDermott perform - both he and the WSO were incredible. The song list was appropriate for the season, but not full of trite holiday songs, and his voice was unforgettable. I highly recommend this show, and I'd absolutely see him in concert again. The WSO was excellent, and they put on a marvellous concert.

Very enjoyable! As they say in the Ctr of the Universe - Toronto, Xmas doesn't start until you've attended a McDermott concert.

    John McDermott left us speechless...

by Scotlass on 2009-12-12Centennial Concert Hall - Winnipeg

I invited a very good friend to join me as a birthday gift to her. We are both Scottish-born and bred, so just the fact that it was John McDermott singing, tugged at our hearts in many ways. Every song moved us, whether inspirational, Christmas, or military themed. We have seen John in concert before and many times on television, so we were familiar with him bringing his dad's old hat on stage. When we saw that we knew what to expect - get the hankies out! John sang so effortlessly, at times we could hardly see his lips moving. The music comes straight from his heart and oozes out of every pore. He has one of those pure, natural, God-given voices that Heaven is proud to own. John's heart for the soldiers and their families and the passion with which he tells their stories, shows the true nature of the man - a compassionate, down-to-earth genuine article. When the encore ended and John walked off the stage, I turned to my friend, with tears blinding me and said, "I hardly know what to say." She replied, "There is nothing to say." We were moved beyond words. We were speechless.

    the Snowman was fantastic

by tank on 2009-12-09Centennial Concert Hall - Winnipeg

Everyone with children around 3 and up should see one of these great shows. We shall go to more as my daughter loved it. It was long enough, but not to long to lose the kids. The interactive displays before the show were great. Two thumbs up.

Well my 3 year old son was engrossed for the first 3 minutes of the production and then he became antsy. He enjoyed the little audience participation and I would have liked to have seen more of that. The Aesop's fables was a complete miss for him (and it seemed for a lot of the children there from the talking I heard). Once they started The Snowman my son was calm, quiet and engrossed. In a nutshell... more audience participation, more visuals, especially if doing longer peices like Aesop's fables. The Snowman piece.... a hit!

    The Creation

by mrsspud on 2009-12-06Centennial Concert Hall - Winnipeg

What a moving performance. The tie between the music movement and lyrics was captivating, taking the audience with them.

    city lights is truly timeless

by winona73 on 2009-11-30Centennial Concert Hall - Winnipeg

It was a rare privilege to see this film accompanied by the WSO. Judging by the collective laughter throughout and the standing ovation at the end, the show was a success. Hope to see more silent films brought to life in this way in the future.

    city lights brilliance

by buflyer on 2009-11-29Centennial Concert Hall - Winnipeg

Not only was the movie brilliant, you forgot the orchestra was live! It was a classic night of nostalgia, hats off to the WSO, and the only small amount of wishful thinking would be if this could be re-created at Pantages for the 'atmosphere', and for over a weekend.

    Tremendous

by Winklovic on 2009-11-28Centennial Concert Hall - Winnipeg

I could not have experienced a night of better entertainment. Not only is the movie fantastic, but the orchestra was superb with not only the music but the sound effects as well.

    Unforgettable

by Faise2 on 2009-11-27Centennial Concert Hall - Winnipeg

From Begining to end...the moment we arrived. There was a brief introduction about the movie "City Lights" , the music began and there were lights. I took my youngest daughter age 14 as she enjoys the Charlie Chaplin movies. She was so amazed, she wrote a brief note on facebook. She and I as I am sure many others, would like to see more!
