About

The WWE is the world's largest wrestling promotion corporation. Founded by Jess McMahon and Toots Mondt in 1953 as Capitol Wrestling Corporation, the organization now hosts more than 500 events per year across the globe. In 1982, McMahon’s grandson Vincent K. McMahon bought Capitol Wrestling and was fundamental to turning the WWE into a widespread and enduring sports entertainment product.

Initially, McMahon built up the WWE roster with future superstars such as Hulk Hogan, Roddy Piper and Jesse Ventura and launched the organization’s annual marquee event, WrestleMania, in 1985. Over the years, WrestleMania has offered plenty of unforgettable moments like the Hulk Hogan-André the Giant championship match in 1987, the generation-shifting face-off between Bret Hart and "Stone Cold" Steve Austin in 1997 and The Undertaker’s 21-year winning streak at the event. The WWE will celebrate the 40th annual WrestleMania in 2024.

By the late ’80s and early ’90s, there was a full roster of hardcore brawlers, including Shawn Michaels, Hart, Ric Flair and "Macho Man" Randy Savage, who were later joined by a new crop of “Attitude Era” stars such as Steve Austin, The Rock, Triple H and Mankind as the organization grew into a touring juggernaut. Another infusion of talent joined the WWE during the late aughts and early ’10s, including John Cena, Roman Reigns, Charlotte Flair, CM Punk, and Becky Lynch.

The WWE continued to reinvent itself as it created the separate Raw and SmackDown brands in 2002, launched various offshoot brands including the ECW and WWE NXT and introduced a 24/7 streaming network in 2014. The companies behind the WWE and mixed-martial arts promoter Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) merged into TKO Group Holdings in 2023.

  • WWE ROCKs

    by drock1 on 2009-08-11Pengrowth Saddledome - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

I would suggest live WWE to anyone...even if you dont like WWE. It was a lot of fun, and my wife, who could care less, was right into it. We had our signs waving and our voices going too. Everyone should go given the chance.

  • RAW was awesome!!

I really love to watch wrestling. I am a long time fan. Having grown up in southern Alberta, of course I grew up watching Stampede Wrestling and loving the whole Hart family..and having a great respect for the impact the whole family and other members had on the wrestling industry. I am so happy that the young Hart Dynasty trio is continuing with this legacy. . Even though Stampede Wrestling is long gone....I will always be a wrestling fan ....and have followed WWE now for the last 23 years. I have seen maybe 6 house shows and now 2 live RAW shows in that time. Last night was truly a great experience. We had great seats....right across from the ring (and the cameras). I have never been so close! It is really something else to be right under the lights...and so near to the action. We had great fun before the show, getting our pictures taken beside the huge pictures of our favorite superstars on some of the big truck trailers outside. The actual program was really good. It was a very entertaining show. There was a good variety of some of our favorite wrestlers. The crowd was great...right into it...often standing. It did seem a bit confusing for some of the wrestlers and some of us, when the cheering seemed to switch from someone to someone else at times...but it was still very entertaining. I was especially pleased when there was so much chanting for "We want Bret". Too bad that he couldn't have been the surprise general manager for the night. There is still so much support for the Harts in this area. We had another nice surprise at the end of the night, while watching some of the wrestlers leave the arena...when Lillian came up to the fence and took a few minutes to thank us for coming to the show. She is so great. I really hope it's not such a long stretch of time before the WWE comes back this way again.

This was my first live event for WWE, and it was flat out amazing. I would recommend going to anyone who is a fan, or to anyone who wants to be entertained for 3 hours. Awesome awesome awesome. I can't wait until they come back.

  • Great Event

    by Budz403 on 2009-08-11Pengrowth Saddledome - CalgaryRating: 4 out of 5

This was a great event and the crowd was very passionate. There were times that I thought riots would break out because of chants of "We Want Bret". This live event was better than any WWE house show I have ever been to.

  • WWE awesome as always

by nOBODYfRESH on 2009-08-11Pengrowth Saddledome - CalgaryRating: 4 out of 5

It had been 5 years since WWE was last here and wrestling has changed a lot in that time it's defiently gone more PG more kid friendly than it was in the late 90's and early 00's and being 26 I prefer the more adult content and comedy and blood and violence that they used to deliver but I still enjoy a good wrestling match and that was found last night. David Hart Smith was great to see even though he lost but it's nice to come home and have everyone in the crowd cheering you when you are supposed to be the heel. Sgt Slaughter was weak guest host what a waste of time he is. John Cena as always closing out the show to half the crowd cheering and the other half cheering for Orton and they did a sweet move together the RKFU oh wait it's not the FU anymore cause that's not PG... Good show.

We took 2 11 year old boys to this event and they had a terrific time. The main event was changed, but the kids still had lots of fun.

Monday Night Raw was exciting i thought but it was really different from watching it my whole life on televsion...i didnt like how when they were on commercail breaks we had to wait for more matches. The fire works and lighting was amazing and just there to see the wreslters was incredible. Iam a bing wwe fan and would love to go again when its calgary and hopefully that time it will be front row. The show smackdown and ecw put on in Medicine Hat was awsome. We had front row seats the wrestlers put on a god show. The only thing i didnt like was i only got 5 autographs like whats up with that...they need to do more of those.

  • Good if youre close enough

by MissKim on 2009-08-11Pengrowth Saddledome - CalgaryRating: 4 out of 5

Got tickets from ticketmaster saying "Limited View", but turned out to be awesome seats by the entrance. You can't hear anything the announcers say though, so it can be a little quiet at times.

  • Like the miz falsely claims, AWESOME!

by DaveyBoyO on 2009-08-11Pengrowth Saddledome - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

Basically everything was really well played out and the matches were fantastic. The fans got really involved with many "We want Bret" and "Y2J" chants and booing Sgt. Slaughter like he's never been booed before. It was a great event for all fans of all ages to see!

  • WWE comes to Red Deer!

    by troodles73 on 2009-08-11Enmax Centrium - Red DeerRating: 3 out of 5

Well it was a typical house show for the WWE. We really enjoyed the show and the wrestlers did a great job, however the lighting was a bit on the dull side. I have to commend all the stars, as everyone around the ring got to be up close with them for sure as there was lots of out-of-ring action. The Great Khali is much bigger than I imagined! I have to say though, some of the wrestlers are more personable than others. There are a few of the stars that got boo'd severely, William Regal being one of them. Of course Christian played up on this, pointing to himself while everyone cheered, then pointing to Regal and the boo's resounded! The ECW champion Christian, however, made some lucky young man very happy after that match! He came over to the crowd right in front of us (we were in the 3rd row on the west side of the ring) and picked up this younger and took him to the ring. He then handed the ECW championship belt to him and you should have seen the look on this kid's face! The lucky youngster had a digital camera in hand so Christian himself took a picture that I'm sure the boy will cherish forever! All in all it was a good time and there were many WWE fans that thoroughly enjoyed the show! I hope they come back again, and don't wait 7 years to do so!

  • WWE Experience in Calgary

    by Alex61 on 2009-08-11Pengrowth Saddledome - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

We had great seats but all the stupid signs prevented us from seeing much of the event. They were very annoying. Please ban them from furure events or find a way to limit them.

  • Awsome event!!!!

It was the first time I was at RAW, live. Very nice. I loved it. The performance was great. Cena and Orton are very good. I am looking forword to a show with Undertaker and Triple H.

Monday Night Raw Live was unbelievable even when sitting aways from the ring I still enjoyed myself and would recommend it to everyone.

  • WWE in Canada -- Same Old, Same Old

by DWood on 2009-08-11Pengrowth Saddledome - CalgaryRating: 3 out of 5

Same tired Americans vs Canadians to try and generate heat with the crowd. Despite having 2 Main Events, none of the matches were above average. Overall I expected more effort from the WWE given their long absence from Calgary and the wrestling history and tradition in this city.

  • monday night raw rocks calgary!!

it was my first time to watch WWE RAW live and it didnt disappoint!it rocked! although i would have liked it better if triple h was there...

  • Rinside Raw!

by Rammer on 2009-08-11Pengrowth Saddledome - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

Got a free upgrade to the first row along the ramp as the original tickets i bought (row 10 on the floor) were taken out. Couldn't of asked for anything better or anything closer. Props to Ticketmaster for the free upgrade.

  • WWE was average!

by SKTA on 2009-08-11Pengrowth Saddledome - CalgaryRating: 2 out of 5

We had great seat, great people sitting around us, however, the show it self was just mediocre. Myself and my family are big wrestling fans, and we watch it on TV every week. But when we watched it live, it was horrible. I even watched it when i got home, and it looked better on TV. The storyline was horrible, The constant derogatory comments towards Canada was uncalled for! I brought my son with me last night, and his favorite wrestler was not there. I know that there are separate shows, however my son's favorite wrestler is Triple H. All they had for him was a couple skits of him out finding his partner. It was a disappointment. Also to have D.H. Smith perform in Calgary was great, as he wasn't even suppose to be here, but to have him lose was disrespectful to us, as well as him as a performer. I think that if WWE decides to come back to Calgary I won't be attending the show, and if I do attend I won't be spending the money to get the floor seats again.

  • Monday Night Raw

by Float on 2009-08-11Pengrowth Saddledome - CalgaryRating: 4 out of 5

I went to the event last night and was on the floor, just eighteen rows from the ring. The wrestling was very good, but the people with their signs in front of me, were very insensitive. There were a few that kept putting them up in the air all the time, so they could get on television I guess? But I felt like saying to them, who care if you get on t.v. for one second? After being on the floor, I think being a little higher up is better, because you can see the ring, and the wrestlers, and above the sings. Unless of course you are right in front of the ring.
