  • What a show!

This concert exceeded my expectations. I have never been to a jazz concert before but after being there last night, I will go again! The orchestra is wildly talented. The singing was out of this world. Very happy that I bought tickets.

  • Good concert, but lousy seats.

The band played a selection of classic 1960s jazz tunes from the Blue Note catalogue, arranged by orchestra members. This is some of my favourite music, so I was thrilled with the program. The arrangements were interesting without taking away from the originals, the band played tight and solos were good. Various band members were given the spotlight; Wynton Marsalis introduced each tune but didn't hog the spotlight. I wonder, though, if the band was tired from travelling or a little bored with the material, as the concert lacked spark. They played for about 90 minutes and then a half-dozen or so band members performed one encore. We sat high up in the Chan Centre and found it difficult to hear and understand Marsalis's introductions for each song. As well, we had to listen carefully to hear some of the soloists.

  • Outstanding!

If ever you find yourself wondering if an artist has talent, compare them to Wynton Marsalis and his accompanying Lincoln Center Orchestra, who each show more talent in a single digit than most of the mainstream popular musicians you'll find on the iTunes homepage, and when combined these performers form one of the most formidable Jazz groups currently performing. I was fortunate enough to be close to the stage and near center, and as such the concert became more of an experience than a viewing event. Whenever an insanely wild solo was played I watched the musician's fingers fly over their instrument with magnificent speed and mastery, and could feel the sheer power of the music they played. It was crazy. It was methodical. It was smooth. It was violent. It was the kind of concert that absorbs you into the music and makes you disregard all surrounding events. The 90+ minute performance flew by with the speed of the music they played and left you with a smile on your face and the rhythm of the music still humming in your mind. To say it was worth every penny would be an terrible understatement. I would have paid triple to see this. So leave people like Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber and the like be and put your money towards seeing real talent in action.

Wynton Marsalis was awesome! My husband and I took our three kids and everyone really enjoyed the concert. We knew we were in for a great evening from the moment they performed the first song.

It was a great evening of jazz. Wynton is a gracious speaker with an excellent understanding of the history of jazz which he shared. He also let each member of the very excellent orchestra have their moment to shine while bringing them all together. It was a very enjoyable evening

  • What a treat to see and hear the group again!

The Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis was an amazing Jazz experience. Everyone in the Orchestra is so talented and it was great to see them in Vancouver once again! There isn't a bad seat in the Chan Centre and the acoustics are amazing! The pre-concert talk gave us a better appreciation to the event and we hope you keep on doing this when appropriate as it was very educational.

  • Marsalis and the Lincoln Center Orchestrta AWESOME

Only 2 things to complain about: Wynton didn't stand during his solos., and we wanted more. That's the highest praise I can think of. Wynton gave brilliant commentary full of historical anecdotes for each song, and the band absolutely sizzled. SO happy that we got to see them! Thank you CHAN and thank you Wynton Marsalis! Please, come back again.
