Good show especially from Lynyrd Skynyrd

    by StoneycanUK on 2023-08-31

This was the third time I had seen ZZ Top but I have to say Lynyrd Skynyrd stole the show. Budweiser Stage in Toronto is a great venue especially when the sun is shining! Good choice of beer, wines and food. Long walk from the GO Station.

    Sharp Dressed Simple Man Tour

    by Jon85 on 2023-08-31

Took my 17yr old son to Sharp Dressed Simple Man Tour, concert was spectacular. Lynryd Skynryd and ZZ Top put on great shows, lights and sound were all amazing. Uncle Kracker was a good opener. We picked up some concert t's, $60 each. Not terrible but also not the best for price or quality. Seats were great sec 101 row L seats 21 and 22. Could see stage and artists no problem. They were life size! And I didn't have to look at any screens. Budweiser Stage has a lot of drink vendors, ok food vendors and as expected prices outrageous. $15 a beer, drop it to $10 and I'll drink more... a lot more. Indoor bathrooms crazy at intermission, I suggest using the outhouses. Waited in line for bathroom 10mins and left to use outhouse, took 5mins. Yes its an outhouse, but at least I wasn't getting bumped on either side while going pee. Overall great experience. Can't wait for the next concert here! Again lower drink prices!! Hot day and thirsty... not fair.

    ZZ Top

    by MrsC on 2023-08-31

I was disappointed with their performance this time. This was the fourth time seeing them. They didn’t seem to grab the audience and some of the songs I’ve never heard before. They just didn’t get me up and going this time.

    Budweiser sound stage

    by Russell Williamson on 2023-08-31

The BUDWEISER soundstage, formerly knows as The Molson Amphitheatre is basically my second home. When I was a teenager I’d buy tickets to every show I’d like to see at the Amphitheatre, for on front row Centre all the way up to the lawns I’ve sat everywhere by now AND NEVER EVER had an issue with sound quality except ONCE. And it was a particular guitar wielding maniac who is notorious for playing as loud as he can, the one and only Ted Nugent. Lol. So it goes without saying a concert with 2 class acts like The Skynyrd Boys and ZZ Top! These bands both know sound and Billy Gibbons is a gear head. He’s not going to let his band play using horrible sounding gear. But the Budweiser Soundstage takes care of their guests both on and off the stage. It’s set up really easy for beer drinker or if you just need to cool off with some water, or grab a bite it’s all there. They are usually cheaper than arena shows by a buck or two. That’s the biggest complaint I get by friends going to the beer stand at arenas. They all come back to the seats and say the same damned thing. “It was this much for two large beers man!” To which I say “shut up and watch!” Lol. Anyways if you ever have two events on one day to choose from, take the show at the Budweiser Sound Stage!!!

    ZZ Top Phoned it in

    by Duane on 2023-08-30

Skynard, or at the least the latest version of Skynard, sounded great and seemed to be right into the show, although showing constant pics in the background of deceased members, and the flag wrapped on the mic stand got a little old, fast. ZZ TOP seemed like they didn't want to be there at all, very through the motions type of show, even out of sync at times. No real intro, and no real exit, just flat and disappointing, thank God Skynard made up for it. I think Billy's done.

    Above average night out!

    by TrojanHorse on 2023-08-30

Music mix was different for both major bands. Lynrd Skynrd had good mid-range frequencies, but bass could have been better. On the other hand, I couldn't hear any ZZ Top lyrics over the bass. Both bands played several favorite songs, so I was happy with that. Glad to be able to see both bands together nonetheless.

Had to leave my seat and move up top

    by M Tall on 2023-08-30

I get that people love to dan e to music, but I just think there should be no standing at your seats. There were multiple people around us that couldn't stand very long and couldn't even see the screens when sitting. Really sad they couldn't enjoy themselves. We moved from the 200 area to up top so we could watch the show. ZZ Top was great but Leonard Skynard was outstanding!

    Parking Nightmare

    by MikeC on 2023-08-30

WASTED TIME, WON'T COME BACK ! Why wasn't there any signs along Lakeshore Road alerting drivers that the parking lots on Budweiser grounds were full. We wasted an hour and a half waiting in line for parking and the only sign stating lot full was right at the entrance way. Missed the first act Uncle Kracker due to this parking issue. Lynyrd Skynyrd and ZZ Top were great.

    Rockin Concert

    by Emmy on 2023-08-30

Was a great concert musically though for someone whose been around for 50 years would have thought he would play longer than an hour. Lynyrd Skynyrd was awesome and the real reason we were there. Wondering why Uncle Kracker was added when he’s so country. Filler. Wrong crowd for him. I was sickened by the smell of weed throughout the whole concert. Supposedly a smoke free venue. Would rather have smelled cigarettes. Guess this is what outdoor concerts have come to. Will think twice before going to another concert there. Watched staff remove a few drunks. Stoners are allowed though. Music was soooo good!!!

    Haven’t missed a beat!

    by P. S. on 2023-08-30

This is the tightest rock / blues outfit you will see. Billy’s guitar playing is brilliant — chunky, melodic — totally rifftastic! Elwood and Frank are a rock solid rhythm section. Obviously we miss Dusty but Elwood is more than a capable replacement — great player, great presence, and a good singer. Can we get him to sing Tush or Viva Las Vegas? Total fun. I’m going back!

    Long Past Time to Retire

    by Don't Cry on 2023-08-30

I love ZZ top and I've seen them numerous times. The time I saw them before this 8.27.23 show it was apparent that they're well past their best before date...Dusty Hill was alive. I went to the show though because Lynyrd Skynyrd's 50's anniversary show was kick ass. Sadly I had to miss Uncle Kracker who I was looking forward to see as my friend and co attendee had seen them before and said they were well worth the $. The top can only play about 45 minutes now before they get pooped. Billy's voice was bag of rocks and barely audible. In fairness I think they're on a pretty aggressive schedule playing up to four nights in a row routinely. His arthritis is evident in his playing. I did kind of like the fact that they were innovative in their lighting show and screen images as they barely moved The smoke cannon firing didn't seem to have any relation to the music. The electronic sound and higher speed made for a fresh take on old material but they used vintage videos which was counter effective. Frank's drumming was right on the money and Elwood is able to cover both the bass and guitar parts just fine.

Skynryd should have been the headliner

by JD Les Paul-Taylor on 2023-08-30

Lynyrd Skynyd was great, interacting with the crowd, playing most of their hits within the allotted time, tributes to former members, etc. - their songs were real and not piped in… ZZ Top other than Billy’s guitar work and Frank Beard’s impressive drum kit and chops, their time on stage was somewhat unforgettable. Sound was muddled, Billy’s voice was raspy and almost incoherent when talking to the crowd, didn’t pay respect to Dusty Hill, and most of hits I’m sure were piped in instead of actually sung (esp. Dusty’s songs). Didn’t really catch Uncle Kracker except for cover song of Drift Away at the end of their set (traffic was awful getting to the venue). So in summary good concert but LS should have been the headliner - greater catalogue to work from anyway.
