About

BILLY CONNOLLY IN CONCERT:

Sideways-thinking and speed-chatting Scotsman Billy Connolly is a consummate improv performer and storyteller, regaling crowds with off-kilter folk songs and ridiculously circuitous stories for decades. Fans can always expect something weird, canny, and Scottish at his winking live shows as he works his way through new material and old standbys from his expansive discography. Having bounced back from prostate cancer in 2013, he remains an unstoppable force of funny on his 2014 tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Originally trained as a welder, Glaswegian comic Billy Connolly was inspired to a life of performing after one too many drinks at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Seeing the freaks and geeks he realized he could do the same, taking up banjo lessons and forming the comic-folk duo the Humblebums. His hilarious introductions before the band’s shows gained him recognition as a comic, and when the band split in the '70s, he took his act solo. Since then, he's gone on to achieve legendary status as a funnyman, writer, actor, and massive influence on subsequent generations of "tongues."

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"First time I have managed to see Billy live and he was amazing. We laughed from the minute he came on until he finished.”

"Billy Connolly is one of the best comedians! I've seen him perform in multiple countries now and have never been disappointed."

"Billy was the best comedy show I have ever seen. Laughed so hard I cried and my sides hurt.”

    So disappointed

by 7Dave7 on 2015-11-04Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

I've enjoyed the comedic anecdotes of Billy Connolly for years, so took my wife to see his "High Horse" tour show in Edmonton. What a complete DISAPPOINTMENT ! We sat through an hour and 20 minutes and then gave up and walked out before his show was finished. Only a FEW chuckles and some of his material was 20 years old ! Also, the sound levels on the PA were too low, so often hard to hear him. Theater got so warm, my wife fell asleep at one point and I nearly did. Again, SOOOO disappointing. In case you were thinking about seeing his High Horse show, I'd say give it a pass.

    I love you Billy!

by NZgirl on 2015-10-31Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

As sad as it was to see his health issues taking it's toll on his body, he is still as sharp and hilarious as ever. I can only pray that I get the opportunity to see him again in the not too distant future.

    A brilliant evening

by OldGuyCalgary on 2015-10-30Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

From the moment he shuffled on to the stage and smiled he had the audience in the palm of his hands. Two hours has never gone by so quickly.

This was a fantastic event! Laughed so hard my stomach hurt for a day, and everyone around me was howling too. It was good for the soul. What a great story teller!

Laughed so hard in spots that I cried.

by Slinkee on 2015-10-29Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

Billy Connolly does not disappoint - his meandering storytelling style is like having a conversation at a party where one person does all the talking and everyone else is in stitches. A really good comedian is someone you wish you actually knew socially so you'd never miss a laugh. Alas, I have to settle for buying tickets to his shows. I highly recommend seeing him perform if you get the chance.

by Rcrac3r on 2015-10-29Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

Billy is still sharp as ever. Would be really great to actually meet him in person just to chat over a tea and scone. Shame that parkinsons is taking its toll on him.

Market Square , Cigar and Police

by PorkyPepes on 2015-10-29Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

Having seen Billy quite a while ago , was really pleased to get the chance in my new adopted country Canada , the guy is a genius but it being 15 years since I last seen him was really shocked as to his condition from Parkinson's disease . The show had great comedy in it but his lack of movement which is a big part of his shows if you have seen any of his DVDs was upsetting for me , and you could see he wanted to do all the expressive gestures he is known for but alas his condition wouldn't allow it. But over all the man is a legend and to get the chance to see him live again was awesome.

The legend that is ... Billy Connolly

by PenS on 2015-10-29Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

Having enjoyed Billy Connolly ever since he soared to prominence following an appearance on Michael Parkinson in the seventies, we were very concerned to hear about his health issues and keen to support his bravery in going ahead with this tour. We were prepared for the show to be less impressive than the last time we saw him, five years ago. But he was amazing - had us laughing non-stop for two hours plus - pretty much all material we'd not heard before. Long may he continue to enjoy life to the full and inspire us all to do the same.

    Love Billy Connolly!

by Cisco18 on 2015-10-29Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

De-bleeping-lightful! All four of us enjoyed the heck out of Billy. The man can capture your attention and leave you smiling from the inside out. He's a genuine and natural entertainer and I could listen to his stories all day long. Just a real treat to be in his presence.

    Not the same comedian

by Misty007 on 2015-10-29Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

Although I have enjoyed Billy Connolly's humor in the past, this show was not up to par. He appeared frail with low energy & at times it was even hard to hear what he was saying. His material covered a lot of jokes & info about Scotland & the UK & it did not relate very well with a Canadian crowd or with current events. There were moments where the Old Billy came to life but overall I found it long & drawn out.

Billy Connolly was hilarious and insightful

by LaurafromtheMountains on 2015-10-29Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

I loved the show. Connolly is funny, no doubt about that, but I find him to be so much more than that. He is such a natural up on stage that you don't feel like you are watching an entertainer or a polished performance that has been done a million times and rehearsed to perfection (and that's a good thing!). Instead you feel as though you could be sitting around a kitchen table, sipping a beer (only without the beer as the Jubilee wont let you bring a drink into their theater) and listening to a friend share hilarious tales and anecdotes. Connolly's stories just flow and his observations are sharp and insightful. He is truly a delightful comedian and I would highly recommend seeing him live. The only down side to the show was the sound. Up in the nosebleeds we struggled to hear at times which was such a shame. I've seen other shows there and the sound was not a problem, so I assume this was a one off issue.

    The big yin

by Ryujinkarate on 2015-10-29Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

It is quite sad to see how slow in movement Billy has become due to his Parkinsons however it certainly has not effected his ability to entertain. I was laughing from the moment he started to the moment he left the stage. As usual his stories and ability to switch from story to story is brilliant. A true comedic legend that if you have never seen before you have to go and see.

I was very much looking forward to this event since purchase date in June! An unfortunate circumstance prevented me from attending -- sure could have used the laughs I am certain were delivered. Hope to have the opportunity again!
