About

BILLY CONNOLLY IN CONCERT:

Sideways-thinking and speed-chatting Scotsman Billy Connolly is a consummate improv performer and storyteller, regaling crowds with off-kilter folk songs and ridiculously circuitous stories for decades. Fans can always expect something weird, canny, and Scottish at his winking live shows as he works his way through new material and old standbys from his expansive discography. Having bounced back from prostate cancer in 2013, he remains an unstoppable force of funny on his 2014 tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Originally trained as a welder, Glaswegian comic Billy Connolly was inspired to a life of performing after one too many drinks at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Seeing the freaks and geeks he realized he could do the same, taking up banjo lessons and forming the comic-folk duo the Humblebums. His hilarious introductions before the band’s shows gained him recognition as a comic, and when the band split in the '70s, he took his act solo. Since then, he's gone on to achieve legendary status as a funnyman, writer, actor, and massive influence on subsequent generations of "tongues."

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"First time I have managed to see Billy live and he was amazing. We laughed from the minute he came on until he finished.”

"Billy Connolly is one of the best comedians! I've seen him perform in multiple countries now and have never been disappointed."

"Billy was the best comedy show I have ever seen. Laughed so hard I cried and my sides hurt.”

He's now a very funny raconteur

by cordite on 2015-11-11QE Theatre - Vancouver B.C.

I last saw Billy about 35 years ago at this very theatre, he was an absolute riot then. He's still a riot but he's a different sort of comedian now. You could tell right from the start that he wasn't radiating the sort of energy that he had so long ago and I thought I was going to be disappointed...... Not so ! He is a fabulous raconteur and had everyone in the audience in tucks of laughter as he went through the absurdities of life with his own inimitable, irreverent style. Nobody can swear as sweetly as Billy , nobody can tread on the politcally thin ice of gays and disabilties like Billy can. A decidedly nervous ripple went through the theatre whenever he started out with one of his un-pc stories but he is so wonderful that he calmed the troubled waters by making them realize that laughter is our way of dealing with difficult subjects. I wish society could be more like that in everyday life. In the end he was a triumph, every story and joke he told came together like pieces of a very funny jigsaw puzzle. Just when you thought he'd lost track of where he was going, he pulled everything together wirh perfect timing and had us aching with laughter. It takes a mountain of courage to put yourself out alone in front of a large audience, knowing that you're not the man you used to be and knowing that some of your material is risky, but if anyone can pull it off it's B.C. Bravo Billy , you're a better man than I am Gunga Din! BillC

    Billy was perfect!

by LongDrtiver on 2015-11-10Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

Billy Connolly delivered a wonderful performance on Nov 1st in Edmonton. It was personal, revealing, humble and hilarious throughout. He is one of the greats and did not disappoint, offering history lessons, and reflections on his long career, all while remaining "just a person", standing onstage for us. Thank you Billy Connolly!

    Okay

by 14Excellent on 2015-11-07Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

We were sitting in the first balcony & when he talked we could not hear him whatsoever, so I was extremely disappointed as I heard from friends he was great. Wish they could of turned up the volume on the speakers so we left. We went to administration at the Southern Jubilee Auditorium and complained we could not hear him talk at all but they did nothing. So my review is not good for him.

    Billy - you're amazing!

by FaithfulFan on 2015-11-05Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

Knowing that this legend is battling diverse health issues, the fact that he entertained the audience for almost two hours is remarkable. Billy is a funny man - not because he tells jokes but because of the way in which he views and lives his life. Irreverent? Absolutely! Wonderful company? You bet! Any time I might have a spare seat at my dinner table, I would love to have Billy Connolly as a guest! Thanks Billy!

This is one hot Scot of a comedian!

by JudgeDread on 2015-11-04Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

From start to finish, Billy Connolly had the audience in stitches! For 2 straight hours, he regaled his fans with stories of calamities on movie sets to tragicomic musical hi jinks in a hospice! Billy Connolly related warmly to and with the audience and is well worth going to see and hear. Despite recent serious medical diagnoses, Billy Connolly continues to do what he does best: keep his audience laughing in spite of him and themselves. Thank you, Billy. Keep on keepin' on, Big Yin...........

    Connolly at the Jubilee

by Festivas on 2015-11-04Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

When Billy shuffled out on to the stage, my first thought was that he wasn't feeling so well. He admitted as much, but went on to do a 1.75+ hour long routine. That's the thing of it, however; he needs to shorten his routine down to just the good stuff. It was way too long and never, for me at least, side-splittingly funny. His stories are humorous enough, but after an hour, I just wanted him to wind things up with a bang. That bang never came, so after 1.75 hours, I left. He might have gone on for another hour; I don't know. There are a ton of Scot expats in the audience who seemed to love all his stories, but I would never go see him again.

Billy never runs out of stories-including amusing ones about his Parkinson's and his bout with cancer. 2 hours of standup, laughed the whole time. Can't ask for a better performance,

    Connolly is Gold

by BookBag on 2015-11-04Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

One more to cross off the bucket list! Billy Connolly was spot-on, hilarious, and never missed a trick. Despite being slowed down physically by Parkinson's Disease (a subject which he discussed and laughed with us about), no subject was safe from Connolly's dry, witty observations and delivery. The only downside was the sound system. It seemed the sound guy was struggling with the mike volume - sometimes it was low (so low, a few people in front of us couldn't hear) and sometimes there was a strange reverb echo. I'm unsure if this will be Connolly's last tour, but if he did tour again, I would not hesitate to buy tickets. It was wonderful to spend what felt like an intimate evening with him.

    First time

by Fifer on 2015-11-04Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

I've been listening to Billy since I was a wee bairn. His comedy records and tapes were a part of my growing-up, as well as a fond connection to memories of the "Old Country". I had always wanted to see him perform live but never was able to. This time, I was not missing out! He may be older and physically slowing down, but his comedy is just as great as it ever was. It was a fantastic evening. Hopefully, he returns!

    The 'Big Yin' still delivers!

by Toonie21 on 2015-11-04Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

It was great to see the 'Big Yin" again. Saw him years ago in London UK and our paths frequently crossed on flights from London to Aberdeen or just driving in Aberdeenshire. Despite being older and a little frail this didn't stop the refreshingly lack of political correctness that the Big Yin delivers and does so well. He embraced the health issues he is living with so eloquently. I laughed and cried from the moment he came onto the stage until the time he left. A good two hours of entertainment in a lovely venue. His stories of Scotland, particularly of the North coast were superb and having lived there for 5 years very typical, his description of the Scottish spot on. I would not hesitate to go and see him again.

    Absolute Legend!

by KOPITE on 2015-11-04Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

This was my 5th time seeing Billy and as with the 4 times previous I laughed from start to finish. He truly is a master of his craft and tells his life stories like he is telling them to friends in a pub. Can't say enough about him, if he is coming to a city near you make sure you get your tickets early, always a sell out.

    TIME TO RETIRE BILLY

by Rumgirl on 2015-11-04Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

I attended this performance with my brother and we both agreed that Billy Connelly just isn't that funny anymore. Our mistake was waiting this long to see him. We should have seen Billy when he was in his prime and still had the ability to move on the stage. Part of being funny is being a bit animated while the stories and jokes are being cracked off. I know he's had health problems and I admire how he's handled it all, but he's in no position to tour anymore. Neither one of us had a really good belly laugh and hearing all these Scottish stories and place names meant nothing to us. How boring. The volume was also too low. Many times, we could barely hear what Billy was saying. This show was a dud and it's time for this Scotsman to retire. We will resign to watching old DVDs of Billy Connelly instead. That's when this man was truly funny. After saying all that, we still love you Billy!

Billy was a lot of fun. No rolling in the aisles but kept a smile on my face the whole concert. Only issue is getting out of the parkade after the show.

    Billy Connolly is Hilarious!

by EntertainmentWatch on 2015-11-04Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

Despite his advancing age, and considerable health challenges, Billy Connolly continues to put on one of the best comedy shows out there. Two hours of laugh until your stomach hurts hilarity. His rambling-storytelling style makes you feel like your sitting around a pub enjoying a pint with an old friend.
