BC Lions History

The BC Lions are the fifth oldest active franchise in the Canadian Football League (CFL). Founded in 1954, the Lions have made 10 appearances in the Grey Cup championship game and have won the cup six times: in 1964, 1985, 1994, 2000, 2006 and 2011. The BC Lions have claimed the Grey Cup twice on their home turf, including their notable 1994 victory over the former Baltimore Football Club, which prevented a U.S.-based team from hoisting Canadian football’s top prize. The Lions logged the CFL’s second-longest streak of playoff appearances, running for 20 consecutive seasons between 1997 and 2016. Throughout the BC Lions’ history, roster members have claimed 14 Most Outstanding Rookie Awards, 11 Most Outstanding Canadian Awards and Most Outstanding Defensive Player Awards apiece, seven Most Outstanding Player Awards, and five Annis Stukus Trophies for the CFL’s Coach of the Year.

BC Lions at BC Place

The BC Lions are the longest-tenured team to continuously compete at BC Place, starting with its opening in 1983. The stadium has grown in stature across the league, hosting nine Grey Cup championship games, including a Lions victory in 2011. During home games, fans can expect to hear the BC Lions fight song “Roar, You Lions, Roar” and get hyped up with team mascot Leo the Lion. The 54,500-seat multipurpose stadium has also hosted Major League Soccer’s Vancouver Whitecaps FC as well as games during the 2010 Winter Olympics and the annual Canada Sevens rugby competition. BC Place is located on the north side of False Creek in downtown Vancouver.

  • Fantastic🏈

Had a great time! The venue was full of lots of exciting sights and sounds. The game was amazing! My only complaint was getting in. We stood out in the monsoon rains waiting at gate E until the doors opened. When they finally did the staff refused to let any of us in that had “approved clear bags or small pouches” the sign clearly states this! We were made to file through one gate like drenched animals - absolutely pathetic and completely unnecessary. Not at all impressed by that. Do better BC place.

Everything was awesome the drink & food specials, the entertainment all good !

  • BC Defense won the game!

We had club seats which I would highly recommend. Still a great view and it was nice to have the lounge and washrooms nearby. Boring game until the 4th quarter when the BC defense had a pick six and a fumble recovery for another touchdown. I still have faith in our BC boy, Nathan Rourke, to come alive just in time for the playoffs.

The game was perfect. I spent the time with my son, it was a perfect experience. We had a blast watching BC kick Calgarys butt.

Great fun despite our brutal loss. Lots of exciting things happening at the venue. My only complaint is the astronomical lack lustre food prices & quality.

For seniors that used to play football getting together to watch the big game having a blast hopefully they come back to Victoria.

  • The Watch Party wasn't much of a party.

There were very few people there. I took my walker to sit upon. I enjoyed being there but it would have been more fun with more people. The weather was perfect and the large screens were easy to see. I would have preferred to be at the game. Did they have "handicapped"spaces? Beth

  • It was a great game!

The BC Lions game in Victoria was a great game. Energy was high from attendees and players. Unfortunately, the concessions ran out of beer too early. I found that there was not enough room to move around on the ground to get anywhere! Could have possibly had merch and concessions outside of park maybe.

  • Exciting event

While there’s always room for improvements, for a first time event we thought that the whole setup was quite amazing. Next time though, they need to make sure that they don’t run out of drinking water and perhaps try to set up food and beverage stands differently so that the lineups for those items are not so long. Had so much fun and met some great people.
