I knew that getting tickets to see Cat Power in concert was risky. I knew that I had to keep my expectations low as far as performance is concerned, and to focus on the amazing music from this very talented woman. And yet, I was disappointed!
Cat Power showed up onstage at 11:20pm, after 2 somewhat uneven opening acts. At that point, after waiting for this long, I really was hoping to be rewarded for my patience. Her band was tight and wonderful. However, the show never really took off. Cat Power was all-over the place, trying to light up some inscent or reading a letter from a fan in the first row instead of focusing on her singing. Things started to get better for a string of 3 songs when she played "Bully", but things started to go down again and at 12:35am, I decided that I had seen enough.
Maybe I should have been a little more patient and stayed for the other half of the concert. Maybe she finished with a "bang". The truth is, it was late, I was tired, and Cat Power didn't do anything to wake me up. This was the very first time that I left a concert before the end. From now on, I will enjoy Chan Marshall's music on disc only...
