PRIMUS IN CONCERT:
Funk metal legends Primus have been letting their freak flag fly for more than three decades, and 2015 promises to be just as wild as they gear up for a tour in support of their eighth studio album Primus & The Chocolate Factory with the Fungi Ensemble. Both the album and tour feature frontman Les Claypool playing alongside the classic Primus lineup, and the highly anticipated reunion has fans chomping at the bit to see them perform favorites like “Jerry Was a Race Car Driver” and “Wynona’s Big Brown Beaver” in concert. From Claypool’s signature twangy vocals and finger-tapped basslines to the band’s high-energy antics on stage, Primus always treats ticket buyers to an eccentric, funk-fueled live show that’s as weird as it is wonderful.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Primus formed in Northern California in 1984 and quickly built a regional following with their quirky, humorous funk-metal hybrid. After releasing several demos and a live album titled Suck on This, Primus made their proper studio debut in 1990 with the album Frizzle Fry. The record cracked the Top 40 on Billboard’s Heatseekers chart, leading to a tour with alt metal giants Jane’s Addiction and a deal with Interscope records. The following year the label issued the band’s sophomore album Sailing the Seas of Cheese, a cult classic that eventually reached Platinum sales thanks to witty fan favorites like “Jerry Was a Race Car Driver” and “Tommy the Cat”. By the mid-‘90s Primus had broken through to the mainstream – their 1993 album Pork Soda peaked at No. 7 on the Billboard 200, and later that year they headlined Lollapalooza. Their crossover success continued in 1996 when they were asked to create the theme song for beloved adult animated sitcom South Park. Since then the band has weathered several hiatuses, always returning with more vigor than ever. In 2014 they released their eighth album Primus & The Chocolate Factory with the Fungi Ensemble, a critically acclaimed psych rock romp that they’ll support on tour with the classic Primus lineup.

Sound was perfect, Cygnus X1 is the highlight of the night, I would like that the guys are more lightened, love to see this technical guys genius. but what a show!! thanks
My boyfriend and I got the VIP package to this show. Everything was fantastic. The q&a felt personal and was in an intimate setting, the merch was amazing too. We did not get a pour of the wine that was listed in the vip package so that was disappointing. The show itself was perfect, the sound and lights were spot on and the band was of course, awesome. They played some amazing songs that night
Thank you to Primus for doing and bringing this great performance to our city, Job well done Boys.
The band gave their best that evening, but the public was disgusting: Guys completely high backing and forth pushing people all around and not respecting at all to the rest watching the show
Excellent show, excellent band and musicians. Happy to see Primus for the first time !! Cool place (Olympia theater, Montreal). Thank you !!!!!!
Those musicians are so good. Why the hell couldn't we see what was going on on the stage?? We missed the solos, the instruments, the guys interactions... So much talent on stage and not a chance to see it! One or two songs with no light I would of understand, but the whole show? What a bummer!! The lighting concept was, in my opinion, very not well thought, especially playing Rush.... Come on!! Such a bummer. My boyfriend was his first time to go see Primus, still haven't seen them.
My 7th time seeing Primus in Toronto and absolutely great show! As always Primus doesnt disappoint and add to that a full album cover of Rush Farewell to Kings ! What could be better , I just wish i could have went to both shows.
Long time fan of Primus. They did not disappoint. The Q&A session was worth the VIP, not to mention seat location. The upgrades at Massey Hall were perfect. The sound was spot on. I would highly recommend this venue for any show.
The tribute to kings tour was absolutely amazing and the sound was the best I've ever heard at a concert. Primus was amazing and Massey Hall was an excellent venue to see them. You won't be disappointed with this show!
Fun great fun I loved it the kids loved it ( Ticketmaster) Please paper tickets and not at a surcharge
Great show at a great venue. I usually prefer a concert without sests but will make exceptions for Primus, especially at Massey Hall.
The only negative point is that was short!! And Geddy and Alex that were in the backstage…
I was very excited for this show seeing that Primus has been one of my favourite bands for 30 years. I was disappointed with the sound at Massey Hall. It was difficult to hear the vocals and the music could have sounded crisper. I understand it can be hard to do soundcheck since the place sounds different once it’s filled with people. Still a decent show and glad I went. Will try for different seats next time.
Visuals were great but cover of Rush's A Farewell to Kings was disappointing. Did not play in same key as album.
Being a Rush fan for over 40 years and discovering Primus when they opened for them in 1992, witnessing A Tribute to Kings was like an out of body experience! All three members nailed A Farewell to Kings flawlessly! It sounded like the original album! Being a picky bastard (Rush fan) I was loving every second of the Rush set. Not only that, it was a Primus show as well! Excellent musicianship all around and loved the new songs Conspiranoia and Follow the Fool! Plus, Massey Hall...great acoustics! I've seen many concerts over the last 40 years and I rank this as top 3! (Not including the many Rush shows I've seen. Sorry,Eh!?)
Soo tight best concert I’ve been to hands down not even a debate
Primus Friday night at Massey Hall was a great experience ! They played their excellent material in a first set then did a fabulous tribute of Rush’s Farewell to Kings album
Massey Hall was a great venue for this tribute show. Thoroughly enjoyed this show! The Primus hits and a great rendition of an absolute classic from Rush were an incredible treat!
