    Master at work

by Aly B on 2023-10-08Massey Hall - Toronto

I'm a big 70's era Genesis fan, and of course Hackett solo as well. I've seen Hackett a number of times over the years and he has never failed to please. But on October 5, 2023 the performance at Massey Hall in Toronto was notched up a few levels. First set was solo material, second set was Foxtrot, and the encore was Firth of Fifth, Dance on a Volcano and Los Endos. And just when you thought it couldn't get any better, it did. And then again, and then again. What a band! Hackett totally blew my mind. At 73 years old he is in a league of his own. Simply brilliant.

    Killer Show

by Crush on 2023-10-08Massey Hall - Toronto

One of the better shows I’ve been to in a while. Outstanding solo material as well as classic Genesis done to perfection by Mr. Hackett. Great musicians, vocalist, and drummer Craig Blundell right on the money.

    For serious fans only

by BigLeo on 2023-10-08Massey Hall - Toronto

As an early Genesis fan I thought the show was great. Hackett’s solo stuff was also moving. However, unless you’re a fan of musicianship or early Genesis, you may have found it slow and boring. For me, it was all I expected and more. Great show!!

    Unique compelling music

I didn’t know anything about Steve Hackett before attending the concert. Glad I went. Music was ahead of its time.

    Needless shredding

by Tony Lisnic on 2023-10-08Massey Hall - Toronto

The first half of the show was pure torture as Steve and the band all seemed to be doing their own thing. The songs sounded like they should be played on a carnival ride. Steve’s shredding was just to show off and didn’t fit with the songs. The one bright spot was Spectral Mornings. 2nd half was great with Foxtrot and an encore of Firth of Fifth before degenerating into useless drum solo and more shredding.

    Foxtrot

by John on 2023-10-08Massey Hall - Toronto

This was the nineth time I have seen Steve Hackett. Steve and his band always delivers a great show. This time he played the entire classic Genesis Foxtrot album. His album is very skilled at recreating the same sound although the musical instruments has evolved since the 1970s. Roger King was able to recreate the same sound or even better than the sound that Tony Banks created on his melotron for songs like Watcher of the Skies. You would have to been a an accomplished musician to play a song like Supper is Ready that is 25 minutes long with a very complex time signature change. Steve of course ended his concert with the Firth of Fifth playing his iconic guitar solo that no one else can do. I can't wait for his next tour when his is coming by to the GTA.

    Majestic and Impeccably-played

    by SN-1 on 2023-10-08Massey Hall - Toronto

What an amazing show from start to finish. You have to be a pretty die-hard fan to recognize all the songs played that night and thankfully, I am pretty die-hard. The first half was comprised of songs from his solo albums from the first from 1975 to the most recent. There was a heavier concentration of songs from the elate seventies and early eighties, but it was otherwise a pretty diverse mix. The band was spot on and lots of new colours, textures and passages were added with great success. The second half was a powerful and impeccable re-creation of the Genesis album Foxtrot. The album was played in order and was note perfect in all aspects. The band was again spot-on and the music was outrageously powerful to the last note of the epic Supper's Ready. Encores were old Genesis chestnuts as well with some snippets of solo songs added in. The light show was an excellent addition to the proceedings and contributed to the over-all power and impact of the show. Between-song banter was minimal, but he has such a wry sense of humour that he usually is able to elicit a laugh or two. Totally worth the price of admission!

    Fantastic Performance

by Shah T.O. on 2023-10-08Massey Hall - Toronto

Legendary band and an unforgettable performance. The Massey Hall staff are very friendly and professional which makes the experience even nicer. A group of spectators sitting at two top corners of the venue were extremely disappointed as two giant speakers were blocking their entire view of the stage. We were hoping that after the renovations, they would have raised those speaker ro clear the view. Ah well!

    Amazingly talented and focused

by Myke on 2020-03-10Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

It was an amazing concert. Steve Hackett still has plenty of chops and energy. He commands the stage and lets his brilliant band mates take as much space and solos as the song requires. The sound was flawless and that drum solo from Craig Blundell was jaw dropping !!

    Amazing

by Squonk Dan on 2020-03-07Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

Steve Hackett was absolutely amazing. His band was excellent and were brilliant together. The music was almost heavenly at times. The singer that sang the Peter Gabriel lyrics for the Selling England by the pound album was bang on. The light show was stunning as well. Like a mini Genesis stadium show. I am thrilled that I went as it was a last minute decision. I liked that Steve was in front of the band the whole concert even for the Genesis half of the show to show it was his show and to exemplify his guitar playing. He is an absolute wonderful and amazing guitarist

Steve is a true professional and a real gentleman. He was so gracious and performed wonderfully. His solo music and Selling England by the Pound and other gems of old Genesis were terrific. Three hours of great entertainment. A great band as well! Please come to Winnipeg again!!

    I Know What I Like

by Stevie Baba on 2020-03-04Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

As the song from Selling England by the Pound states: I Know What I Like and I didn’t just like this show I loved it. I was blown away at how amazing the band was and the professionalism and dedication Steve and his mates have to performing it to the highest standard. The music may not resonate with everyone but I’d defy any casual concert attendee to tell me they left unsatisfied.

    Awesome concert

by Phil Shead on 2020-03-04Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

I have always wanted to see Steve perform Spectral Mornings live and I finally got my wish. As an added bonus, I got to hear all of Selling England By the Pound and various other solo songs. The whole band sounds excellent and the venue was perfect for the show. All in all, highly recommended.

stunning musicianship - a must see!

by Equinox71 on 2020-03-04Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

Steve Hackett and his amazing band are not to be missed. Between his solo material and the celebration of early Genesis music, he packs a full three hours of jaw-dropping musicianship and it really doesn't get better than this. Apparently his former Genesis bandmates are now surfacing to tour in 2020 but that's a plodding and tired production while Mr Hackett and company are putting musicians of any age to shame. THIS is the Genesis show to see as Steve and band sound as fresh and unleashed as if they were starting their careers. Amazing show!!!!
