About

WICKED is a Tony-winning sensation that has been defying gravity and delighting Broadway audiences since 2003. With music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and a book by Winnie Holzman, the fantastical prequel to The Wizard of Oz was nominated for 10 Tony Awards after it opened at the Gershwin Theatre in New York City, and won three, including Best Actress for Idina Menzel, who played the original Elphaba. The musical’s first national tour opened in 2005 and ever since, WICKED’s touring production has criss-crossed North America offering theatergoers one short day in the Emerald City filled with magic, music and the ”untold true story of the Witches of Oz.” The second national tour — known as the “Munchkinland Tour” — has been an open-ended production since 2009 and now stars Olivia Valli as Elphaba and Celia Hottenstein as Glinda.

This show is amazing. Makes you wonder if you too are influenced by media and dislike because someone told you too. Certainly a new way to think of Oz

I saw Wicked for the first time and I am still singing! The sets were gorgeous and the characters were so unique. Elphaba is my new favourite Villaness! I cannot wait to see it again when I get the chance!

    Awesome performance

by Neslo on 2014-08-19Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

Very well written and performed. I really appreciated the message given. There was sufficient comedy and seriousness to keep one engaged. Costuming and choreography were excellent. Hats off to all involved.

    wicked

I would not recommend this event for my friends as I could not understand any of what they were saying. I have a severe hearing loss and I wish the event offer closed caption or a book for the hearing impaired to follow. and better seating so they can also read there lips.

    Wicked was just that!

by Gildnes on 2014-08-18Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed our night out at the Jubilee. I grew up a block away from the NA Jubilee and every experience there has been a pleasurable one. Glinda stole the show for me at Wicked with her voice, inflections, mannerisms and to-die-for lines! It's kind of a dream role. Although lighthearted and fictional, I enjoyed Wicked as much or possibly more than most plays I've seen in my lifetime. I'd go to it again in a heartbeat!

    You have to see WICKED!!!

by JayRis06 on 2014-08-18Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

My friend and I had never seen Wicked before, and wasn't quite sure what to expect. We knew the costumes would be amazing - but what really got us was the witty, hilarious script! The effects and lighting and costumes and set changes all appeased my need for visual stimulation. I wasn't entirely impressed with Elphobah's singing voice, but Glinda's was very good. I totally want to see this again, and have been telling all the rest of my friends to go!! A delight for all ages!

    Wicked

by Copper9 on 2014-08-18Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

Wish we had gone for the most expensive seats because it would have been wonderful to have seen it all. Tough when you sit behind a tall (bobber) person. Anyways, Wicked was wonderful, we loved the music the cast, the singing....everything.

    Wicked was wicked!

by 1q2w3e on 2014-08-18Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

We loved the performance, great talented performers, wonderful music and we loved how the story tied in the original Wizard of Oz, mixing the old and the new so smoothly. The staging was effective and even the special drinks made the whole night a special event for us.

    Wicked definitely worth seeing

by NekoGal on 2014-08-17Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

Our experiences were good from beginning to end and the only reason why we can’t say fantastic was mainly due to a few very small things. The story itself was fun to watch and where you can see where the writers took liberties with the past of some of the characters it is still believable. The sets and costumes are absolutely mind blowing, each area of OZ having a very unique look. The actors themselves, especially the ensemble were fabulous, but sadly like we will Rock You there were times that the band was overpowering the singers, especially during the first act which took away from the experience. As well because our seats were to the side we could see the backstage crew and couldn’t see what was going on sometimes when characters were close to the edge there. As well the staff at the venue, though quite nice weren’t waiting between scene changes to allow latecomers to their seats distracting our attention from what was going on onstage and the 15 minute intermission was so short by the time we finished getting through line for our drinks there was only 3 minutes left until the curtain went up and they weren’t allowed in the auditorium.

A Wicked Night was had by all!

by gwennmc on 2014-08-17Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

Laurel Harris and Kara Lindsay (Elphaba and Glinda) were over the top, extraordinary performers. A wonderful chemistry between these two fine actresses made the show as wonderful as it was. Excellent lighting design, the orchestra was sublime, and the supporting cast were largely flawless. I've seen many, many shows on Broadway in NYC and thought that a touring edition would pale in comparison, but I was wrong. It was every bit as good as the first time I saw it down east.
