Alan Doyle on Tour
In 2019, Alan Doyle released the single "We Don't Wanna Go Home," a duet with B.C. country star Dean Brody. It's a title that perfectly sums up Doyle's career on the road. As frontman for Canadian roots-rock institution Great Big Sea, he spread the beery good cheer from coast to coast and beyond for the better part of 20 years, and since that band's dissolution in 2013, he's continued to live up to his well-earned road-warrior reputation as a solo artist. Backed by his reliable support crew The Beautiful Beautiful Band, Doyle delivers a healthy serving of Great Big Sea classics and selections from his three solo albums to date: Boy On Bridge (2012), So Let's Go (2015) and A Week at the Warehouse (2017). An Alan Doyle show is both an occasion to have a good time and to support a good cause — he's known to donate proceeds from ticket sales to mental-health and addiction-treatment organizations.
Alan Doyle in Concert
As a singer/guitarist for the rambunctious roots combo Great Big Sea, Alan Doyle helped transform the Newfoundland band from regional pub phenomenon into one of Canada's most successful and celebrated bands. Between their 1993 formation and 2013 dissolution, the group racked up seven Top 10 placements and 11 Juno Award nominations. And since launching his solo career with 2012's Boy on Bridge, he hasn't relented in his lifelong mission to deliver joyously anthemic, pint-sloshing, Celtic-kissed singalongs. But Doyle's musical pursuits have run parallel to an eclectic acting career that includes credits in such films as Winter's Tale and Ridley Scott's Robin Hood. (Fittingly, he's developed an ongoing creative partnership with another singing actor, Russell Crowe, who invited Doyle to write for his 2005 album, My Hand, My Heart, leading to a full-album collaboration between the two, The Crowe/Doyle Songbook, Vol. III, in 2011.) Doyle's myriad achievements earned him entry into the Order of Canada in 2017, and he's reflected upon his charmed life in two bestselling memoirs, Where I Belong (2014) and A Newfoundlander in Canada (2018).
Show was amazing from start to end. Alan is sooooo entertaining.
Loved the concert and would go back and see him again. He is a true musician and has so much passion. He is a real crowd pleaser!!
Alan Doyle is such a refreshing personality, it is virtually impossible not to like him. He started out a cappella and showed off his rich vocals. Throughout the show, he showed his mischievous nature. Lots of interesting stories, and the band was into it too. Made for more than just an enjoyable music event. And the music is what one would expect from a lad from Newfoundland, and a previous member of great Big Sea. Lively might be the best description. The crowd was into it, most people up and dancing or clapping. Finally, it was encore time, and the final song again was Doyle a cappella with a very emotional song/poem. Tears were evident in many eyes.
Alan Doyle never disappoints. He is a truly talented musician that performs with amazing passion and energy..... He just really knows how to put on a show.....from the music to everything in between. Amazing!!
Full of energy and was so much fun, Doyle surpised me
A heartwarming performance by Alan Doyle and crew. His personality makes you feel as though you are at a kitchen party with your closest friends! Nonstop energy and entertainment.
From haunting ballads, southern blues and good old rock'n roll, the Alan Doyle concert had it all. He and his band had the audience dancing in the aisles and then sitting, mesmerized, listening to him just singing, without instruments. What an incredible show! A few nice surprises as well, with Jim Cuddy making a guest appearance. This was the first time I attended at concert at the Danforth Music Hall, and was pleasantly surprised at how helpful and polite the staff was. The smaller environment was perfectly suited to Alan Doyle's personable performance. Loved it, loved it, loved it!
Alan is an Amazing singer and entertainer. He knows how to keep the audience engaged , when to pick it up and when to slow it down!
Friggin' awesome show! Everyone was on their feet from the first chord. Corey Tetford and the rest of the band was great. Been a follower and friend for years. Big ass kitchen party.
Have loved GBS forever but having Alan Doyle on his own was just an amazing experience!! He brings such amazing energy to the stage that you can't help but jump up and dance! It was a full house that night....completely sold out show. The crowd loved it!!
Alan Doyle never ever disappoints, he is so upbeat all the time! He is humble and always thanks the audience for coming, that means a lot to us fans! We've been to three of his concerts since he released his solo album and we've already got tickets for April 24th in Buffalo. Job well done!
Fantastic show. Great sound. High energy. Enjoyed very much. Looking forward to seeing Allan Doyle again.
Let me start off by saying I NEVER stop to write these types of reviews but I so thoroughly enjoyed the Alan Doyle concert, I feel I must this time around. I had bought tickets for a good friend to this show, and then decided to take my daughter to another one of his concerts that was a week before this one. At the first concert, there was a meet and greet afterwards. Alan Doyle was a sweetheart to my 11 year old daughter. She was thrilled to meet him. At the Danforth, there was no meet and greet but there were other surprises. During one of the songs, two professional dancers came out to do some step dancing. The best part though was when Jim Cuddy came out to sing their duet of "Northern Plains" It was AMAZING seeing two of my favourite singers live on stage together! The other musicians performing with Doyle are phenomenal, and a joy to watch on stage as well. We also saw a couple of famous Canadians, Krystin Pellerin from the Republic of Doyle and Greg Hawco (composer for tv and film) a few rows ahead of us in the audience. The Danforth Music Hall had a more enthusiastic crowd which also made it a more energetic night out! It's a fun and personable venue! I adore Alan Doyle's voice and I could really go hear him again next weekend....and perhaps the next....and then the following one....
From start to finish, Alan and band had the crowd on their feet dancing and singing along. A truly enjoyable evening, a great selection of his new songs as well as a bunch of old favorites. 2 thumbs up!!
What an incredible performer. Alan had us up dancing from the first song, laughing at his humour, smiling at his humble comments and crying from his heartfelt stories. Fabulous evening of talented musicians, song writing and heart!
Unfortunately my husband and I could not attend, so I gave the tickets to my niece. She had no clue who Alan Doyle was. She texted me the next morning "Fantastic !!!!! Best show I have ever been to!" Then she came over for dinner and talked about it all night. Glad she has a great time, sad my husband and I missed out. She said it was engaging, fun and fantastic music.
Amazing concert...Alan is awesome...great entertainer & singer. Loved his new CD So Let's Go. & all his music. Love it when he tells his stories. I can't wait to see him again.
The venue was intimate and Alan Doyle and his band were amazing would totally recommend him to see him live. His stage presence and music is uplifting and fun, can't wait to see him again. Go see him if you have a opportunity I know I will.
Alan is a passionate and yet humble talent. He evokes colourful images of Canada and The Rock while singing songs of human compassion, love and loss. The set effortlessly moves between quiet moments of reflection and raucous moments of unbridled joy. He is an Artist. It is a privilege to spend an evening with him and his band.
