About

Alanis Morissette established herself as the foremost female singer-songwriter of the 1990s with her 16-time platinum-certified third album Jagged Little Pill, released in 1995. The Ottawa, Ontario native had already released her 1991 debut Alanis and 1992’s Now Is the Time before graduating high school and moving to Los Angeles, where Morrisette began to develop Jagged Little Pill. After its release, Jagged Little Pill gained steam behind singles like “You Oughta Know,” “Hand in My Pocket,” “Ironic” and “You Learn,” propelling the album to Morissette’s first of three consecutive No. 1s on the Billboard 200. At the 1996 Grammys, she claimed four trophies including Album of the Year, Best Rock Album and Best Rock Song for “You Oughta Know.” The album has sold more than 33 million copies worldwide, and remains one of the all-time best-selling albums in the U.S. 1998’s Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie and 2002’s Under Swept Rug followed, led by singles like “Thank U” and “Hands Clean.” In 2018, Morissette debuted the musical Jagged Little Pill, which reimagines her catalog while adding several new, original compositions, and the production moved to Broadway a year later — landing 15 Tony nominations and two wins as well as a Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album. Morisette then released her ninth and tenth studio albums, 2020’s Such Pretty Forks in the Road and 2022’s The Storm Before the Calm

    Alanis @ sound academy

    by Bugsy1960 on 2012-10-17Sound Academy - Toronto

After seeing the doobies at Massey hall on the Friday before, I was a little dissapointed with the sound. However to compare the two venues is unfair. The mix was a tad weak, vocals could have been a little louder, and it was often difficult to pick out the guitar rythmn and Alanis's guitar was completely inaudible. I go to a fair amount of venues, rush last night, so Alanis sandwiched between the doobies and rush makes a for a sandwich with high end bread and spam in the middle!! One of the weakest I've seen this year I'm sad to say!

    Thank you Thank you Alanis

    by Dale81hfx on 2012-10-17Sound Academy - Toronto

I just had the best time of my life. The sound was weird from time to time, but overall the concert was incredible. Alanis was on. We flew in from Halifax and it was totally worth it. A 17 year long dream come true.

    Love Alanis!

by ChantelleP on 2012-10-17Sound Academy - Toronto

Alanis was fantastic, high energy, great sound for the most part (sometimes her voice was a bit too soft) Opening act didnt really compliment her music - different genre but he's her husband so...... Only complaint is the venue, I would have loved to see her at a larger venue like Massey Hall. Being crowded and standing the entire time while very tall people stood directly in front isnt the best experience. Seeing Alanis made it worthwhile.

    Finally saw Alanis!!

by HBROD on 2012-10-14State Theatre - Minneapolis

I've been wanting to see Alanis for a long time and had to go to Minneapolis to do so. She just doesn't tour Canada enough. She did not disappoint. Her music was played expertly and her enthusiasm showed in her performance. There are a few things I would have changed, however. The venue was beautiful but the breaks in between the acts were too long so the crowd had too much time to drink. They would NOT shut up during her performance so it felt more like a bar concert than a true concert. My recommendation would be to raise the volume of her music and maybe then, people would be forced to pay attention. I also wish she had played some songs from Flavors of Entanglement! I still love her and would go again but hopefully, it will be in Canada the next time!

    A Fun Night Out

by znz212 on 2012-10-11The Centre in Vancouver for Performing Arts. - Vancouver

There's not many things better than being front row at an Alanis Morissette concert. Her voice is beautiful live, and the emotion she puts into her lyrics help you forget about the crowd and it feels like you're at a private show. Production-wise, there wasn't much to speak of - Alanis was very dressed down, not much interaction, she didn't say much more than "thank you" between each song. She did still have her iconic hair with which to headband, her signature hand twitching, and put in a good workout running around the stage. Where Alanis shines is in the singing, and isn't that the most important part? Especially with the Jagged Little Pill songs, she left it all on the stage. Raw emotion to the point where she's nearly in tears by the end. The band had a lot of fun on stage. A favourite funny moment came when Alanis subtly changed a lyric in "Ironic" - "It's meeting the man of my dreams, and then meeting his beautiful..husband". The audience laughed, and the guitarist and bassist gave eachother a knowing hug and a wink. One of the biggest surprises, and my hands-down favourite song of the night, was Uninvited. I've always loved this song and was not expecting to hear it. So moving, so nostalgic. A perfect way to end the main set before 2 encores. So overall, I had a blast. Had it been an artist I wasn't as big a fan of I may have been a bit disappointed with the lack of interaction. But I absolutely loved hearing these songs, and Alanis' powerful voice, live and all around me.

    Worst gig ever!

by Shins on 2012-10-09The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - Vancouver

Was excited to go to this gig but it turned out to be the worst gig I've ever been at, so much so we left after 'Ironic'! Alanis has the worst stage presence, no eye contact with audience, sang to the corners of the stage where there was no audience. She has the most annoying hand twitches and she's just hard to watch. She stomped onto the stage and proceeded to stomp o the left and right of the stage. She looked so uncomfortable so much so myself and my husband felt uncomfortable - we just couldn't watch her anymore. Also the sound was terrible, very muffled. Overall the worst gig ever. Even if she was playing again and I got free tickets I wouldn't go!

    Her voice was beautiful.

by Beanner on 2012-10-09The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - Vancouver

Her voice was beautiful as always, but that is where all positive comments end. The stage wasn't decorated in anyway... unless you count some lights. She was dresses in standard new mom attire(track pants and a t-shirt). We all got dressed up to see the show and she looked like she just rolled out of bed... a little more effort would have been appreciated. I think I will stick to listen to her music at home. Still love her voice but the show was not worth the nearly $90 we spent per ticket.

I wasn't a fan or even a follower before going to this show, but she rocked it out of the park! The band was incredible; tight, good levels, grooving off of each other. And damn can that woman sing. I was very impressed. One of the best shows I have seen in a while.

    Alanis was awesome!

by weko on 2012-10-07The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - Vancouver

All I can say is she may be a Mom nowadays, and starting to add some pounds, but she still rocks!!! And the voice, there is no doubting the voice(although someone has to replace the sound technician, many moments in concert Alanis herself was asking to lower volume on drums or raise volume on her microphone as she was being drowned out), as strong and distinct as only Alanis can be, still and always will be a fan!!!

Opens with Alanis' husband rapping, a significant amount of waiting afterwards. Performance was like a rock concert, classics mixed with newer songs. Good opportunity for encore performances, encore was more of an intimate cafe feeling. Alanis is still crazy but kind. Good show overall.
