About

Alanis Morissette established herself as the foremost female singer-songwriter of the 1990s with her 16-time platinum-certified third album Jagged Little Pill, released in 1995. The Ottawa, Ontario native had already released her 1991 debut Alanis and 1992’s Now Is the Time before graduating high school and moving to Los Angeles, where Morrisette began to develop Jagged Little Pill. After its release, Jagged Little Pill gained steam behind singles like “You Oughta Know,” “Hand in My Pocket,” “Ironic” and “You Learn,” propelling the album to Morissette’s first of three consecutive No. 1s on the Billboard 200. At the 1996 Grammys, she claimed four trophies including Album of the Year, Best Rock Album and Best Rock Song for “You Oughta Know.” The album has sold more than 33 million copies worldwide, and remains one of the all-time best-selling albums in the U.S. 1998’s Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie and 2002’s Under Swept Rug followed, led by singles like “Thank U” and “Hands Clean.” In 2018, Morissette debuted the musical Jagged Little Pill, which reimagines her catalog while adding several new, original compositions, and the production moved to Broadway a year later — landing 15 Tony nominations and two wins as well as a Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album. Morisette then released her ninth and tenth studio albums, 2020’s Such Pretty Forks in the Road and 2022’s The Storm Before the Calm

    Alanis Delivers!

by cosmicpoodle on 2014-08-18Casino Rama - Rama

The show was low key, yet powerful. Stripped-down arrangements brought the songs' meanings to the forefront. Alanis herself was beautiful, funny, poignant. Her music has remained relevant throughout her career. Loved it! Sad that she didn't play "You Oughta Know"...the only disappointment.

    Acoustic performance was amazing!

by hockeyfan0133 on 2014-08-17Casino Rama - Orillia, Ontario

Her "Intimate and Acoustic" show was absolutely amazing. Her vocals are just perfect and sound even better in real life than her records. She's a great artist and her personality really came through in the performance!

Alanis Morrissette is back and better than ever!

by BellaSoul on 2012-11-14Sound Academy - Toronto

If you were a teenager in the '90s, Alanis is part of your life's soundtrack. She played ALL of her hits, and everything I wanted to hear from Jagged Little Pill. Alanis was high energy, with her usual racing back and forth across the stage, long hair waving all over the place. It was fun to sing along with the entire crowd. What a show!

    Alanis lip synced all night!

by Anonymous on 2012-10-18Métropolis - Montreal

Terrible opening band (at the show I learnt the "singer" was Alanis'' husband). Alanis lip synced every single song I heard. I actually left before the end out of disappointment. I can't believe someone like Alanis Morissette with such an image of a real artist, with so many great songs (real hits) that are not extremely hard to sing actually chooses to cheat the audience by lip syncing. What a fail. I want a full refund.

Poor sound quality and inappropriate opening act

    by mtrodgers99 on 2012-10-18Métropolis - Montreal

Opening acts are often a waste of a customer's time, but Snake Eye, to me, had no place in the same venue as Morissette. Their genre is either rap or hip-hop (I can't tell the difference; I don't like either) and did not go at all with the music of Alanis. I could have beared that had her show gone well. Unfortunately, the sound quality was atrocious. The band was ususally drowning out her voice. Her voice was often distorted when it was hearable. I left early out of disappointment.

Alanis and Mario... Super Star Concert

by Eskendereya on 2012-10-18Sound Academy - Toronto

By far the most intimate Alanis concert experience!! The 'standing room' only venue was the size of a high school gym. And this reviewer was among the fortunate ones who earned near front row by standing in line 2 hours before the doors openned. It was a nice surprise to many Alanis fans to see her husband Mario Treadway, aka Souleye, open the concert with an entertaining rap which, to me, reflected empathy and appreciation. Alanis was 95% perfect. I deduct 5% for not playing "Burn the Books" or "Unsent". I 'm kidding. But it would have been daring and a treat to hear her play the Demo version! Alanis, if you are reading this...I was the one who, once upon a time, met you back stage at the ACC in Toronto; had VIP tickets, photo, brief talk, asked you to say my name, and gave you a butterfly in a CD case with funny jokes. Back when you were dating Ryan. With warm admiration, unwavering gratitude and immeasurable thanks for your reflective and pure music over the years.... cheers, Tom :)

    Really UNDERwhelming

by Bobthemusician on 2012-10-18Métropolis - Montreal

Sound was horrible. Not loud enough. Better sound at Olympia and Astral. I expected more from a mega star like Alanis. I love her stuff but live performance was amateurish at best. The dance moves by her and the band were the same for every song. Just walking back and forth. Would have been better off to stand still and display musicianship instead of false enthusiasm. And her banter between songs was really amateurish

    Only one Alanis...

by Rayno on 2012-10-18Métropolis - Montreal

Alanis is Alanis. I'll go see her everytime she'll come to Montreal. Her voice is like an instrument and she plays it perfectly !! What disappointed me is that she sang almost the complete 'J.L.P. ', 2 from 'Junkie', 6 from her new album and ONLY 1 from all her very good albums in between. There's so many good songs on these albums !!! I'm sure I'm not the only one who would have like to hear them. But still, I love her soooo much !!!

    very cheaply done show

    by sticky77 on 2012-10-18Métropolis - Montreal

i have seen many shows in my time and i love alanis but you would think in this day and age somebody could at least make an effort to get the sound good; couldnt hear a word she sang drummer was just blasting over everything as was the distortion,,, if i would have known that she was gonna modify almost all the songs to the point where i didnt know what it was i wouldnt have spent a nickel lighting was horrible ,,,,, all in all very disappointed its a shame for such a great talent

    Sound Academy Venue dissapointing sound

    by Gull57 on 2012-10-18Sound Academy - Toronto

Alanis put on a great show lots of energy awesome set list. The crowd enjoyed the show! I was disappointed in the sound quality or the sound mixing. The band sound overtook Alanis's beautiful voice and I could not hear her words distinctly. The band played great that is some base player!

Great performance by Alanis but would have been great if we could actually see her. Stage was too low and if you're not 6 ft tall you couldn't see anything

    Aka is in Toronto 2012

    by dmfan519 on 2012-10-17Sound Academy - Toronto

Alanis has amazing talent and energy that she always pulls off an amazing live performance. The quality of her songs and her vocals are greatly entertaining. No fancy show required just unforgettable songs and great musical accompaniment. I often wonder how she remembers the content of her elaborate lyrics. The old favorites as well as the new material greatly received and delivered perfectly. Definitely a Canadian gem. The Sound Academy is a perfect venue for concerts - civilized and everyone can get close.
