  • Excellent show!

Dance Theatre of Harlem were amazing! So glad Alberta Ballet brought them up, sorry they had to deal with our winter weather while they were here. The three acts were all great and a lovely way to show off their skills across a wide variety of genres of ballet. Lovely choices of choreography and music, wished it had been twice as long because I could have watched them all night long.

Attended the Alberta Ballet on Feb 13. The athleticism and synchronicity of the Harlem dancers was breathtaking. This show far exceeded my expectations. Well done.

  • Not your average school performance

by DMGC on 2025-01-28Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - EdmontonRating: 4 out of 5

The Alberta Ballet School and the Alberta Ballet put on a delightful evening. No where else are you able to see the stage full of talented aspiring dancers. The professional corp did not disappoint. Francesco Ventriglia's Bolero is still dancing in my head two days later; the mark of an impressive ballet.

What a show! Several outright gasps at the beauty. So many graceful, powerful dancers, and the choreographers are simply mad geniuses. Thank you Alberta ballet for weaving a magical performance.

  • FABULOUS EVENING

by Deb McKenzie on 2025-01-21Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

I bought tickets for my kids as a Christmas present...no more gifts and "stuff"that they don't need! Experiences and making memories from now on. The whole family joined and it was such a fabulous evening. It was so engaging...I laughed, I cried-gosh all the emotions. Everybody LOVED it. We want to go more often. No more hockey tickets!!! Ballet tickets instead. I could not believe the fitness level of these dancers!!!! Wow, it's quite remarkable actually. The talent is beyond impressive and the work that was put in to this whole production was obvious. My jaw actually dropped when the curtains opened and all the dancers were in beautiful white costumes. It was a Fabulous evening-a perfect evening, and my review does not do it enough justice. Thank you for the beautiful memory with my family. With all my respect, Deb :)

  • Wonderful start to finish!

by YYC on 2025-01-21Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

Alberta ballet did well on this show! The school students were so well synced, and you can see the incredible talent. I really enjoyed the choreography in the piece from Germany. My husband and I both enjoyed the shared experience of the night- the laughter over the purse pas de deux and when the entire audience gasped (myself included) at the visual of the dancer on stage after intermission. It was truly breathtaking! Well done

  • Dance and orchestra a special treat!

by JanK on 2024-12-27Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

Alberta Ballet’s Nutcracker is an engaging ballet with fabulous dancing, colourful period costumes, and inclusive of young aspiring performers. All of this with live music from the orchestra is absolutely spectacular. It is truly a very special treat for the whole family!

  • What has happened?

by Changes on 2024-12-26Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 4 out of 5

The performance was spectacular and dancers breathtaking. Unfortunately, the quality of venue was subpar. I remember a time when going to the theatre was an event of class and decorum. You get dressed up in anticipation of being taken away by performers and the atmosphere that provided an aire of dream like escape. Instead people eat, drink, pull out their phones to take pictures or film performances and even chat. What has happened????

  • Good, but a few strange things.

by Balletmom on 2024-12-26Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 3 out of 5

My daughter and I went to a matinee of the nutcracker. The jubilee is a fantastic venue and we were excited for my daughter's first time at the nutcracker. Unfortunately, the live music was extremely quiet! We were 5 rows from the front, but found it so quiet it was awkward even to shift in your seat because the rustling was louder than the orchestra! The room lights also only dimmed, so it was very bright and you could see everyone clearly. The combination of these two elements made it uncomfortable and distracting to sit and watch the performance. I honestly don't think back rows would have been able to hear the orchestra at all. And with a room full of school aged kids (and younger) with their families, there was a lot of distracting movement and noise. Lowering the house lights and raising the orchestra would have greatly improved the experience.
